  1. I've heard of that too... I'm at F.I.U. (good school too, but public so much cheaper). My father is an electrical engineer (fixes x-ray equipment) and i have friends in a bunch of florida nursing programs.. and some family etc in nursing. (k my credentials done lol). Baptist Hospital- Offers the pay for you to go to school thing, had a friend who did it, and they liked it, still at baptist (they are 27 now). My dad loves baptist, says they got great updated stuff. Jackson South/Jackson- good equipment, hard on nurses sometimes. Kendall Regional- Supposedly outdated and not that great. idk too much about other hospitals, but if u can def. try to go with baptist.
  2. You didn't go home with her!?? Sigh.. lol
  3. i personally was not circumcised at birth and i wish my parents would have done so. I had my foreskin rip at about 18 years old, so i had to get a circumcision and let me tell you, it's not fun getting circumcised at 18 years old. Being this old i was able to compare and contrast better than most people i think. It's definetly nicer this way, easier to keep clean, and less problems can arise now. Now i know most of you are debating about doing it at birth or not, which i know is different, but i do wish my parents would have done it to save me the trouble i went through.
  4. Oh wow.. that kind of sucks. So if you have a slow school, you have to wait awhile to take it, i didn't know that.
  5. i'll be 24 when i graduate due to not knowing what i wanted to do earlier in college. sigh.. sometimes i wish i would have known earlier. but o well, live and learn. Will end up taking 6 years to get BSN (2 1/2 of those spent on a totally unrelated major)
  6. Alright so both my points made in my first post were correct lol... People quit too soon/Don't use their license, and not enough space in nursing school. My school accepts 140 people a year (70 for summer, 70 for fall), which i thought was sort of low, but i guess if they don't got the teachers/funds then no more can be accepted. I don't think it being hard to get into nursing school has too much to do with the problem though since most schools have a low acceptance rate meaning they have more than enough qualified people applying to choose from.
  7. oh ok i got it, so we need more teachers because otherwise not enough people are graduating each year to fill the gaps that are needed from new openings and people retiring. thanks .
  8. I just don't understand though, can someone help me understand this. How is it that it's hard to get into nursing school and yet there's a shortage? And it's not that it's hard in the sense that you have to do a lot of work to get in (which i guess u do) but more it's hard in the sense that 400 people will apply to a program and 100 people get in. And that's for a lot of schools i hear of (not even just the top schools). So, why is it so many people are trying to go to nursing school and not getting in (when they're qualified) yet there's a "shortage" Do we need more nursing schools or is everyone quiting quickly/ Dropping out of NS?
  9. As amazing as that is Pay/Benefit wise... I just personally don't know how i'd feel about "rural Iowa" lol.. Not meant as an insult or anything, i know a lot of people like small towns. but i think there are too many people out there that don't which is why it's so beneficial to work in one. I mean i know you could work there (with probably a rediculously low cost of living making your paycheck even greater than it seems as compared to a large city) for a few years and leave somewhere else with great savings, but I just think i'd be too bored working so little and having nothing around to do. Regardless though.. Nice job, i would be bragging too lol. So, i guess my only question is, aside from the pay, how are you enjoying yourself so far?
  10. I got to Florida International University, we have a pretty good program (little unknown i guess), But it's becoming better and better each year. We just recently got a bunch of funds thrown at the nursing school (we're the number 1 PHD granting institute to minorities), and CRNA school went from 15 admits a year to 45, and some changes were made to regular Nursing school too... Anyway lol... It's located in the middle of Miami so definetly nice experience (i've lived here my whole life) Min. GPA is 3.0, this years average GPA was 3.4, lowest a 3.0, highest a 3.9... I have a few friends at UCF and FGCU, Both seem to like it, although i've heard better things about UCF... ANother school located down here that supposedly has a decent BSN program is Nova Southeastern University, from what i hear their mainly known for their medical stuff, they have a 2.75 min. GPA. Go for what you want of course, but thought i'd mention a couple schools you didn't mention.. Definetly don't overlook them. F.I.U. had the highest first time passing rate for CPA's for 3 years over any university in the nation, ranked in top 7 for international buisness, just opened up a Medical school last semester (and has had a law school for awhile)... It's mainly becoming a popular school because it's the only public school in a decent radius... closest state schools are UCF and FGCU. I think you have a decent GPA... i won't lie to you, i mean it's not rediculously amazing, but just do well on your exam and you should be fine, how is your science GPA? But overall your GPA could obviously be worst lol, so try not to stress it too much, just apply a few places you'd like to go and see where you get in.
  11. Wow some of these stories are rediculous... I really hope i don't have to deal with this on too regular of a basis when i start... I mean the patient stuff is definetly expected... but things such as letting someone hit you in the face or get in trouble, or the missing child thing is just rediculous.
  12. yeah if that wouldn't make someone shed a tear then i don't know what to say about them.
  13. So what states or schools have this affirmative action for males going on? Just curious to see if it's any decent schools doing it too, or only lower level ones.
