Crna School Clinical Sites
I am from TWU and my primary clinical site is Arrowhead. There are plenty of cases to go around. You are treated as staff and are expected to take about 4 call shifts a month. You will have rotations to Loma Linda for hearts and other complicated cases, Navy for high risk OB, and Kaiser Riverside and/or Kaiser Fontana. The hospital is about 5 years old, so most of the equipment is new. The OB department is much busier now than gaspassah probably experienced. In January there were 322 births. PM me if you have questions.

Day in the life
-I am training at Arrowhead Regional in Ca. -I usually arrive at the hospital around 6:15 to set up my room. -Pre op my 1st pt at 0645 -Report from 0700 - 0730 -In the room with my 1st case at 0745 -If I am lucky, I am relieved at 1500 to go home, but I usually have at least one pre op to do on the floor -If I am un-lucky, I am last on the off list and stay till about 1800, give or take an hour depending on the cases left on the board -Many weeks I have a 16 hour call shift during the week and a 24 hour call shift on the weekends -I have class 2 hours a week, and the rest is all clinical

Anyone accepted at TWU?
TWU (Texas Wesleyan University) is only a few miles from downtown Fort Worth. I think you have mistaken TWU to mean Texas Women's University.
-
CRNA school/Colorado
I am a current Texas Wesleyan student, and I assure you that there are two TWU clinical sites in Denver. I have friends at each site. I have nothing but positive feedback to give when it comes to the education I am receiving at TWU.

TWU clinical sites
I started at Arrowhead 3 weeks ago. It is a GREAT learning environment, and would recommend the site to any TWU/TCU student.

Here's what AAs really think of CRNAs

Dress Codes?
It's all about being comfortable when you are spending long hours in the classroom. In the summer, I routinely wear shorts, t-shirts and sandals. Most of my classmates are the same way.

Wesleyan Bound, Anyone?
BDD Nice meeting you yesterday, and it's good to hear that you were accepted. Congrats to everyone.

Fort worth... where to live
I live in the Fossil Ridge area. There are plenty of nice apartment complexes to choose from in this area and the drive to school is about 15 min depending on traffic.

TWU/TCU Clinical Sites
USMC, I notice you are from KC. I am from Lawrence. TWU is a great program, but if you don't want to move your family be sure to consider KU med and UMKC also. Their clinical sites are in KC.

TWU/TCU Clinical Sites
USMC Some nurse anesthesia programs are affiliated with a single hospital or two, where all of the SRNA's will rotate through to get their clinical experiences. Some programs, like TWU and TCU, are quite large and have several different clinical sites in different states to accomodate all of their students.

HELP--UTvs.TCUvs.TWU
I go to TWU and don't really see any tension. In fact, a group of us from TWU often gather socialy with a group from TCU.

Treatment of hyperkalemia??
An increase in extracellular Ca will decrease the permeability of Na channels. The Ca binds to the sodium channel repelling Na ions. In the gated Na channel, the Ca ions bind to the gate making it more difficult to produce the confirmational change which opens the channel. So in hyperkalemia, where less K is diffusing out of the cell (raising the resting membrane potential), we give Ca to increase the threshold potential (stabilizing the membrane) You are right, Ca does nothing to decrease hyperkalemia.

Stamina, fitness & CRNA stress--how do you manage?
You can do it. I try to get to the gym early in the AM about 3-4 times a week for 30-45 min of cardio. Then in the evenings after class I do about an hour and 15 min of weight training, 4 times a week. If I don't keep up with my exercise routine, I go CRAZY.

Atropine Paradoxical Bradycardia
All that I know is that Atropine is tertiary and crosses into the CNS stimulating the vagus nerve causing bradycardia at low doses. At higher doses the muscarinic blocking effects of Atropine out weigh the CNS effects, causing tachycardia. I think this is correct......If not, at least I sound confident in my post

good place to live in Southern Cal?
I am a nurse anesthesia student who will be moving to southern california this summer for my residency at Arrowhead Regional in Colton. Does anybody have any ideas of good areas to live in the Riverside/San Bernardino area?

Another "Grades" thread
Don't worry about it. I got a B or two in nursing school. I even got a C in Nursing Research (instructor hated me). Grades aren't everything when applying.

Informal survey for those who have applied to CRNA school
I had 9 months working SICU in a large teaching hospital when I was accepted. I was very determined to get in the first time. I had all of the recommended certifications. Took graduate level chemistry, physiology, anatomy & pharmacology classes to prove to the admissions board how serious I was. It worked for me.

update
Yeah. That test wasn't cool at all.

Staff Nurses
Using SCB's sense of logic and reasoning, we can conclude the following: 1. "nurses find it more important to sit in the lounge, than care for the patients" 2. SCB is a nurse 3. Thus, SCB finds it more important to sit in the lounge, than care for patients

TWU selection
They don't flush the bottom 10%. They have just come to expect that 10% of the class will not finish.
