  1. big thread where? do you have the link?
  2. How do you do this Pearson Trick? I take boards next month.
  3. I have used both..I like Exam Cram the most. Simple and can cover more material in shorter amt of time. I read for days when I study in Saunders and sort of get lost. Too much info sometimes when all I want is to review.
  4. What is the LaCharity book, never heard of that one?
  5. I was 48 when I started LPN school and finished when I was 49. Then started RN program when I was 52 and will graduate in 4 weeks. Yeah...it has been a long road. I wish I had started my career earlier but was a supportive military wife for 23 yrs to my husband. I did not go to nursing school until we retired from the military. I am enjoying the challenge and love my new career and plan on working as long as my body and mind will hold out. No retiring for me.
  6. NewGN, Tried to access floridahospital website to practice questions..and it looks like you have to be registered..it is asking for log in access.
  7. I am currently enrolled at Galen. We are getting ready to take the required Hesi exam that follows ea quarter. Like the poster before stated, it is a great school and you will do fine if you focus and study and do the work required. No one said it was going to be easy but it is doable. Having your prerequisites included along with the nursing classes is definately a challenge but it can be done. I like the school bc it is small and there is more one on one if you need it. Instructors are knowledgeable and helpful. A bit pricey compared to community colleges, but again this is not a community college. If you are lucky enough to get in, be smart and do the work. Good luck with your degree.
  8. I faced the same problem in AL. So the director of the RN program suggested I do just that. Now I am so glad that I did as I had no experience in the medical field. It has been a great experience for me. I started out working in a hospital after graduating LPN school in 2004..worked 7 mths on a med/surg floor and then my husband retired from military and we moved back to our home state of FL. Applied and am now working in the float pool..love it. I have learned more than ever by just working a med/surg floor. Was enrolled in local community college and taking pre req's partime while working full time. After a yr an half of pre req's at the local community college completed, I found a program 60 minutes away that has the bridge program and prereqs included that completes in 12 months. So I transfered. More schools should do this. If I had stayed at the local community college there was still no guarantee I would be accepted in the upcoming RN program and might have to wait as long as 18 months to get inthe nest one if at all the competition is extremely high in my area..and then the course itself is 18months..so even though this private nursing college is further to drive and cost 3 times as much..I took it. Am half was through now..it is a struggle..and I don't even have the full load..I only go 1/2 days mostly bc have prereq's completed..but need that extra time to study. Financially it is a killer, had to cut my hrs back at work to partime and sometimes I request off if it is finals week or a special testing period. But the sacrifice is worth it..I will be finished in 12 months. The point is..if you want to complete and pass the course..you will do whatever it takes to do it. Go for it..you will be so glad you did. P.S. My hospital is no longer hiring LPNs..they are keeping some on a few floors but mostly only hire RNs. Good luck. You will succeed if that is your desire.
  9. What is the access to get into this site? Not able to log in.
  10. I have the book with CD and want to practise it..but it is asking for id , where do you get the id so I can practise the CD?
  11. Thanks so much..I will be redoing these all day.
  12. We have to turn in a Teaching Plan along with our care plan..and I am confused. I thought the care plan was a teaching plan. The Teaching Plan format is set up just like the care plan sheet we have to use only with different headings in columns. Learning Objectives Specific Content Teaching Strategies Type of Learning Evaluation Methodology My care plan CP ND's: 1. Acute Pain r/t Low myocardial blood flow, increased cardiac workload/ Increased 02 consumption 2. Reduced Cardiac Output r/t inotropic changes 3. Anxiety r/t breathlessness secondary to COPD Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..our instructor is not very informative..we are basically teaching ourselves.
  13. do you have to be a member to access..its asking for log in info
  14. I will be moving to Lakeland the end of May 05 and hope to go to work here at this hospital. I have visited their website many times. Can you give me some info about starting payscale for new LPN's. I wish to further my nursing career and am told they will help you do that. I am a recent LPN graduate, I have worked for 6 months on a med/surg floor and hope to continue on the same kind of floor at LRMC. Are there any day positions or does everyone have to start on 3-11 shift like I did at the hospital I am currently employed with. Do you have to take a math calculations test in order to work there? The hospital I am at now requires you to take this test..Math is not my strong suit. I am looking for a point of contact that currently works there and who might communicate with me via email. Can you give me some info on Lakeland and is it a nice city to live in. We are military..and finally getting out and want to settle in this area. Thanks so much.
  15. [ We are moving to Lakeland FL the end of May 05. I am looking for a contact person who works at LRMC. Anyone out there who works for this hospital in Lakeland? I have visited their website and it looks like a pretty big hospital? Any knowledge of salaries there? Sheila QUOTE=caroladybelle]Actually, as former native Floridian, the income tax thing doesn't matter all that much. I would still live farther up North, pay state (and sometimes city) income tax and get decent pay and conditions. I still made out better up North than in Florida. Actually, I have never needed heat here...an extra blanket will do.. and the air is on probably 9 monthes in central Florida. You get what you pay for. Instead of a state income tax.. the money is still collected or not spent. You will either pay it as property/sales taxes or have lousy schools and poor infrastructure. In Polk County , we have both, along with the bad pay. Not to mention mosquitoes, hurricanes, and skin cancer. Carolina (whose home still has a 6 by 6 FEMA blue "skylight" in the roof.)
