I agree with what everyone else said. Also, if you aren't getting a lunch (you cannot work at all during those 30 min) you must be paid that extra 30 minutes. I seriously hope you aren't working through your lunch without compensation. That is illegal on their part. I would check out the Labor Laws in your state. Hang in there, I hope you stay injury free and things get better.

I can get along with anyone. Have only ever had issues with 2 nurses in almost 10 years. Gentle confrontation didn't work. Both also were young nurses. What ended up working for me was scheduling myself around them. I find I can take anything when dealing with a difficult coworker only once or twice a month. Sorry you are going through this. Hang in there, keep your cool and keep your head high.

LDR-RN, Can you tell me how this turned out for you? I have the same thing happening where I work. I'm to the point now where I'm refusing to work optional call shifts (at 1.5x) because I feel that I should get OT for anything worked over 40 hrs in that very same week. I feel it is illegal. I'd love to hear how it turned out. Thanks.

I wrote SOB (diagnosis) on dry eraser board in my patients room, "I am not a Son of a Bit*h!" yelled my patient. Ohhhh my :rotfl:

How about House Supervisor? They work the same shifts as the floor nurses. Respond to codes or rapid response, take care of staffing, assign beds for admissions and handle anything urgent that comes up. They are an extra set of hands when one of the floors needs something such as a difficult IV start. Several of my friends are House Supervisors and really like it.

I've worked nights for 5 years now. At first I had problems with my teenagers waking me up. It took a little time and training to get them to be quiet when I was sleeping. They quickly learned though that if they did wake me up they didn't like cranky/exhausted mom and countless lectures. People that don't work nights just don't get it. I've wanted to mow directly under my neighbors bedroom window at 0230 but have held myself back. I guess I would try sitting down and talking to him. Also, maybe ambient noise like a fan to drown out some sound. If all else fails I would definitely make a significant amount of noise while he is sleeping to get your point across. I understand your frustration and hope things get better! :)

You are an amazing nurse. You did an exceptional job of keeping your cool in an unfair and difficult situation. I would have cried or said something I shouldn't have. I agree with canoehead. Take a deep breath and gently confront next time something else happens. If attempts to resolve this situation like an adult don't work I think this should be taken above her head. It sounds like she is creating a hostile work environment. I wish you the best. You sound like a wonderful nurse and teacher. Keep your head up!!

I used to be FB friends with my boss until I got written up for posting a picture on my profile that was taken at work. Even though I posted the pic on my off time I was written up for taking a picture on my cell phone of a work friend and I. I unfortunately learned the hard way. My advice is that you are better safe than sorry.
