  1. Thanks guys! I knew this was a problem here in Jacksonville but the more I read, the more I find that it is occurring everywhere! I am just keeping my fingers crossed and continue to try to find that job! I too get angry when I hear about the "shortage". My current employer keeps asking me why I can't get a job since there is such a shortage. If I have to explain it one more time I think I am going to scream! Good luck to everyone who is struggling finding a job!
  2. I like many other new grads are struggling to find a place in the world of nursing! I graduated, passed my boards and feel like I cannot celebrate due to the daunting task of finding a job. I have been told that it is rough every where trying to find a position as a new nurse. My question is, is there a difference in the hiring rate of new nurses based on ADN or BSN degree. At this point I am contemplating going into a BSN program hoping that will increase my chances of finding employment. So, any one out there that has any info I would love to hear from you! I had always planned on getting my BSN but thought I would have the job first and maybe get some help to pay for the BSN thru my employer. Is it worth it to go ahead and start the BSN program (and pay for it myself) in hopes of finding a job after graduating? Is there a higher chance that I will land the job just because I have a BSN vs ADN? How long does it take to finally get that job... a few months? 6 months? a year? Thanks to anyone who can give me any insight!!!
  3. Thanks so much! I thought that UNF and JU didn't require worked hours (except for masters) but I kept getting mixed information! I will definitely be looking into JU since they have the online option! Best of luck to everyone and thanks again for the input!
  4. Hi all! I was just wondering if someone could tell me what the requirements are for JU regarding worked hours before applying. I just graduated from FCCJ ADN and I am finishing up my AA right now. Unfortunately I have no leads on any job possibilities and thought about going into a BSN program. I know a lot of programs require you to have so many worked hours before applying. I thought if I couldn't get a job at least I could keep going to school. Any suggestions would be wonderful! Also, with the online program at JU how do they handle clinic hours? Thanks!!!
  5. I took my test Friday (6/26) and only had 75 questions! This is the first time I actually wanted MORE questions! I came home and checked for the "trick" over and over again! It took about 4 hours after my test for it to say "Delivered Successfully". So I did the trick and I got the oh so wonderful pop up! Now I am OCD when it comes to the BON website! So far nothing but "WAIT". I am afraid that since I took my test on a Friday that I won't see a change on BON until Monday! I know everyone says the "trick" works but I am still apprehensive about getting too excited! For those waiting for results... I feel your pain! Good luck to everyone and Congrats to those who passed!
  6. Hello everyone! Congrats to those who passed!! I am taking the test on Friday (6/26). I am getting so nervous and already started having trouble sleeping! You know... the dreams where you fail! I have been doing Kaplan Qbank with an average of 71% (not all questions answered) along with Saunders study mode for content. I know they say to take a break from studying but I feel like if I take a break, I won't stay in the NCLEX mode. How many people actaully DID NOT study or do any questions the day before the test? I just don't see myself not doing a couple of questions.... now that is has become a daily routine for 2 1/2 months! Wish me luck! Oh and any tips on how to get a good nights sleep (turn off the brain) the night before would be wonderful!!! Thanks so much!
  7. Good luck you guys!! I am currently in E/W program. I remember the day I got my package... I was such a wreck from the time I turned my application in to the time I found out I was accepted!!! Be prepared to run around like you are on scavenger hunt once you get your package!!! You will feel like a puppet and the nursing program is your master!!! 1st term isn't too bad. I know everyone posts stuff like, get ready, 4 classes....blah blah blah. It really isn't as bad as everyone likes to say it is. It is possible... all you have to do is stay organized and stay on top of things!! FYI - the syllabus for each class is huge!!! I had a slight panic attack when I printed my first syllabus... over 70 pages long!! But don't panic... it is a lot of rules, regulations and objectives for the units. It is everything you will need for that class for the entire term. Well good luck everyone!!! I know how you are feeling... hang in there and try to rest while you can!!!
  8. Thanks for the info!! So how was Adult Health 2? I had a tough time staying focused during AH1 and I am getting very nervous thinking about AH2!!!! Any words of wisdom??? Thanks!!!
  9. Thanks so much!!! I greatly appreciate it!!!
  10. Thanks!! Of couse after you told me I thought to myself "DUH". At least I did pick up on "FITB".
  11. This might be a stupid question, but what are SATA questions?
  12. I am currently in term 3 (evening/weekends) and was wondering if someone could give me some insight on the 4th term schedule. I work full time and was trying to see how much time I would need to take off for role transition and the NCLEX review. I have heard that we do 3 weeks of three 12 hour shifts and that they can be monday thru sunday and then a week for the NCLEX review. If any one could share their schedule just so I can get an idea, I would greatly appreciate it! Since I am at Deerwood for the evening weekend program I don't get out to North Campus very often and can't see the schedules posted. Thank you in advance!!
  13. Thanks Miss Rochelle! I just wanted to make sure that I was on the right track!
  14. Just wondering if anyone already in the program has any suggestions regarding dosage calculations and has any tips about the test? I am working my way through it and just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions that may be helpful for preparing for the test. Thanks!!!
  15. Thanks!!! The info you guys gave about community service was very helpful!!! I do greatly appreciate it!!!
  16. Kertz81 or any one else that has any info!!!!! I was wondering if you could give me some insight on the community service they want us to do. I tried to get some information for Miss Emily and she told me to wait until school starts because I have enough on my plate right now with the independent study. I was just wanting to know what they want from us because now that I am on a break from actual classes, it would be easier for me to do now than wait until school starts. Any suggestions or info would be great!!! They only touched on the subject during orientation and didn't really clarify what they want us to do!!! Plus, I thought with it being Christmas time, a lot of not for profit groups are probably needing some volunteer workers. One more question... Any suggestions on shoes. I went looking for some shoes yesterday and found some nice all leather/white New balance tennis shoes but wasn't sure if those would be ok? Thanks so much!!!!!
  17. Any suggestions on where to get stethoscope (brand/model) and BP Cuff? I know meridy's website has some but I was wondering if anyone had found other places to purchase these items. Thanks!!!
  18. Thanks again!!!
  19. Thanks so much for all the info! I am sure you get a lot of questions and I do greatly appreciate you taking the time to answer them for me. It is good to hear that it can be done while working full time. I guess it all comes down to time management and just how bad you want it!! I have been so nervous about everything!! I didn't think I was going to get in this time and I did so I don't think I was mentally prepared for it!! Thanks again for all your help!!!
  20. Kertz, Since you are in the night program already, I thought maybe you could give me heads up on orientation. What is discussed and are there any books we should have prior to or at orientation? Do they sign you up for the classes at orientation. What hospital are you doing your clinicals and do all 24 night students have the same schedule/hospital? I know they recommend you to bring cash to orientation but I just wanted to check if I needed more than the amount to cover the kit and the polo shirts. Thanks so much for your help!!!!
  21. Thanks so much for your advice. I have actually marked the books to buy first from your suggestions! Thanks again!!!!
  22. Thanks!! That makes me feel better. I am trying to spread it all out some and wasn't sure if I had time to do that. Thanks again!!!
  23. What books are the most important to have for Orientation? Is there any books that I can delay purchasing until after orientation? I have heard that homework will be given at orientation and just wanted to make sure I was fully prepared for what they may ask us to do. Any suggestions would be great!!!! Thanks!!
  24. I would consider 3 children work! Probably more work that what I do at my job!!! My job said they were going to work with me prior to getting in but now that I am actually in they seem to be a little concerned and have lots of questions that unfortunatly right now I can't answer. I hope they will stick to what they said but I am concerned that it may become an issue. Just keeping my fingers crossed!!!
  25. Nights here!! Do you plan on working? Unfortunately I will have to work. I wish I had the option to go part time but bills won't get paid on part time income.
