It all depends on where are located. I am in Hawaii and the hospital pay here is about $58/hr. I work part time in an Icu and part time in aesthetics. I have been in aesthetics for about 5 years and I am at the point where I make more in aesthetics than in hospital nursing. Instead of making an hourly pay, I negotiated a percent of the profit. I make 30% of the profit for all Botox or anything other cosmetic procedure I perform. Btw I learn all the procedures from the md I work for and the company reps. Good luck .

Actually i did go back for my bsn, however, like an idiot i never finished it, i am like 2 classes and 1 clinical shy. To be honest i really do not see the incentive of having a bsn in hawaii, unless you want to be a manager or a supervisor (both position you willn ot be eligible for until many years of working) there are also adn to msn programs online only, which one can pursue after some hospital experience is gained. The UH route is guaranteed exceptance however another 11/2 - two more years of school, depending if you test out of there ethics and pathophysiology. good luck with KCC, i thought that the second semester was the toughest, after that everything goes smoothly. Finding a job migght be a hard thing, unless your up for ltc or home care.

Dayam you all you people getting into the program now got it hard. When I got accepted way back in fall of '03 my gpa was only 3.4 (cumalative for prereqs and co reqs). and i had a NLN of 134. Also i had classmates who only had a gpa of 2.8 or so. Good luck to you all, and be ready for the long road of studying and BS! careplans (something that you will never ever use when you become a rn.

Ill be honest with you, HPU has a stigma of being the last resort school on oahu. The reason being is because you do not need a flawless GPA, and there is no entrance exam requirements. I am an ICU nurse and have precepted many HPU students during their last semester clinicals. I find that many of the students are book smart however, lack in applying it hands on. Dont get me wrong there are some very diligent students that go to HPU, i guess its what you make of school. If you study hard and try to excel in all you clinicals you should do fine. When you graduate it does not matter what school you went to. Right?

In our hospital primacor is mainly used with our open hearts, and is tirated to CI > 2.2 and svo2 >60 . I prefer primacor over dobutamine, as it has a lesser effect on HR and BP. When titrating you normally turn off primacor first because the half life of primacor is 2-3 hours, where as dobutamine is minutes. Our primacor dosing goes from .375mcg/kg/min - .75mcg/kg/min (max dose). In my opinion primacors vasodiliatory effect is very minimal, and most times pressors are not required (levo, dopa, etc).

I would suggest taking acls with a friend being that this is your first time and you are a new grad. Remember that you will be taking this course with other people who are probably experienced in critical care or emergency medicine who have previously taken the course and just need to renew certification. Taking the course with someone else will ease the situation. Amr is stringent about knowing your rhythms, they will not teach you how to read a monitor. So if you have taken an ekg class that would help. As far as studying, know the algorhythims, ie(brady = atropine, pulseless = v tach cpr,shock, etc). This will prepare for the "mock code" that you will have to perform. Other than that when they admin there written test they let you correct the answers the incorrect answers.

I actually work at hawaii medical center east. If you are a new grad and wanted to work med surg then the contract is 18 months and if you wanted to go into critical care the contract is 2 years.
