What path should I take?
I Live In Bakersfield Right Now And I Moved Down Here From The Central Coast. Its Not As Bad As People Say. Its Not Much To Look At But The People Are Cool And Theres Lots Of Things To Do On The Weekend. The Nursing Program Has A Really Good Reputation. Also, Remember That Once You Get Your Assoc. You Can Always Do An Online Bridge Program If You Want Your Bsn Down The Road Good Luck!

What path should I take?
Move to bakersfield and go to Bakersfield College to get your Assoc. Its pretty easy to get into the program (in comparison to most california colleges anyway) and they start a new class every semester, so even if you didnt get in your first semester, youd only have to wait one more semester to try again. About 60-80% of applicants get in the first time they apply, so you would probly have a good shot. if that plan doesnt appeal to you, i would def either go accelerated bsn route or get your lvn. If you went the medical assisting route while waiting to get into the nursing program, it seems like it would kind of be a waste of time if nursing is really what you want to do. hope that helps!

Needing advice for A&P I!!!
This is not a class that you can just wait until the last minute to study. True, very true. I should have listened to this advice as I have totally waited till the last minute to study for my final that is tomorrow. In fact, I got online this morning to check my myspace and have now been surfing the internet for like an hour. Its like im trying to find reasons NOT to study. Anybody else have this problem? Or do i just have the worst self control in the entire world???

Spring pre-req's!!
Im Taking A&P 2, Chemistry (the crazy 5 unit one), and English Comp. After this all I have left of prerequisites is Microbiology which I plan to take over a 6 wk course in the summer, then its time to start applying to nursing programs!!

Needing advice for A&P I!!!
Hey im Just finishing up A&P 1. what makes it hard is that its lots of information. Most people I know who are having trouble in the class, though, honestly arent working that hard on it. Its not a class that you can skate through. You have to study. Im taking 4 classes on top of A&P 1 this semester, though, and I have 4 kids ( they are 8, 6, 4, and 3) and I only have a sitter the 2 days a week im at school and I have an A in the class (finals are tomorrow so we will see how those go) so its doable, you just have to be willing to work! good luck : )

Human Anatomy / A&P I Club for Fall 2007
So ive been in my a&p class for almost 3 weeks now and so far its been.....EASY!! I was so scared of this class, but my professor is great! well, hes a little nerdy as far as his sense of humor, (like he makes really pathetically lame jokes) but that just makes him even cuter. He does all his quizzes and tests from his lectures, NOT from the book, so we know exactly what to focus on instead of studying EVERYTHING. He is a retired veterinarian, too, which is really cool! Oh, and also, he offers a 1 hour class before the regular lecture (its only 1/2 a credit but whatever) where he just answers questions and reviews everything for us. Basically extra help. and he said that people that do that class tend to get a MUCH better grade, so I signed up@!! anyway, hopefully, things will stay easy for me and I will get an A!!!

How Did You Decide On L&d?? Please Help!!
OMG that sounds awesome! haha does that sound awful? I just mean that from what you all are describing, i think it sounds like something that would really suit me. so any advice on how to get into an L&D position straight out of nursing school? I know everybody says do medsurg first, but I think i would probably die of boredom on a medsurg floor so no thanks. I fully believe that I can do a great job without it. SO did anyone do any externships or anything before graduating? thanks!

How Did You Decide On L&d?? Please Help!!
thanks a lot for responding. I totally get what you mean about being prepared mentally for the tough emotional aspects of l&d. I have thought a lot about that. I do think that if someone has to be there to help families through those tragedies, I could do that job well. anybody else got any wisdom for me ???

How Did You Decide On L&d?? Please Help!!
I am a 26 year old pre-nursing student in california with a question for all of yall that are in L&D. Did you always know you wanted to do OB, did you start out with something else in mind and then fall in love with it in clinicals? cant you tell me how you decided on a specialty and what personality traits you think it takes to be a REALLY good L&D nurse?? : ) I got really interested in everything about pregnancy and delivery while I was pregnant with my first child. I read everything i could get my hands on, and felt like I just couldnt learn enough about the process. It just totally fascinated me for some reason. the knowledge ended up coming in handy because i ended up with many, many complications during each of my 4 pregnancies. Now I have 4 kids and am starting the nursing program. I would love to do L&D but i wanna have a realistic idea of what its really like. Ive also considered critical care. Anyway, please give me the run down of how you got started and what its really like and what you do in a given shift thanks!@! monica:o;):uhoh21::uhoh21:

Do You all think this is crazy??
I took all the way up to Algebra II in high school, but when i took my assessments for my freshman year, i kinda didnt care about them because i never thought id take a math class again (I hate math and had no idea i was gonna go into nursing) SO from what i rememeber (this was 9 yrs ago when i was 17) i kinda just did the easy ones and filled in random bubbles for the questions i actually had to think about, so i tested back then into Pre algebra, even though im probably capable of much higher math. I could have taken the assessment again but i would have had to wait a couple months for results. Anyway, i think it will be a good refresher for me anyway. they have the online class set up where you can take the final for pre alg anytime during the semester and add onto Alg I right then. I am REALLY hoping to get both classes done this semester if possible, which is a big challenge, so wish me luck! monica

Do You all think this is crazy??
Ok so this is my first semester back at school for a long time, (like 5 years) and the first semester im taking a full load. I have 4 kids from 3-8 yrs old, and i am getting really nervous!! im taking: A&P 1 w/lab, Pre Alg and then Algebra online (im gonna try to finish both this semester) Gen. Psych Phil ethics of living and dying Do you all think this is doable? Im willing to work really hard, and i also am the kind of person that usually doesnt have to study and i still get good grades, but i keep hearing that that all goes out the window with nursing prereqs because they are sooo hard. anyway pleeease somebody give me an idea of what im getting myself into : ) thanks!@ monica :trout::uhoh21:
