  1. I voted, "NO." This was a bill that was forced on the american people despite the wishes of the majority of our population. It was nothing short of a power grab by the Democrats. It had everything to do with trying to keep Obama's presidency from being a failure (too late) and nothing to do with protecting the interests and freedoms of the American people. I can appreciate the plight of people who have no insurance. I've been there before. And I, unfortunately, end?ed up incurring thousands of dollars worth of bills when I broke my leg. You know what I did? I got a better job that had benefits. I worked hard, and paid off my debt via a payment plan. I went without some niceties in the meantime. I've worked very hard to get where I am today. It is a stressful environment with a lot of responsibility and liability involved. And I expect to be compensated well for my efforts. Healthcare costs money. Advances in medical care costs money. Medical training costs money. Just how do people think we plan on financing these things sufficiently under a socialized program? We're going to see rationing of care and a deterioration of the standard of care for our patients. I have a family of my own that I am doing my darndest to support. I don't need to be supporting somebody else's. People make poor life decision - unplanned pregnancy, choose the wrong person to marry, don't perform in school so you cannot get a decent job... Sorry. You aren't my problem. That's on you and YOUR family / friends / support group. Not mine. I know it sounds cold hearted, but I am. When it comes to taking away from my being able to provide for my family, I'll be a heartless bastard. We definitely needed some measure of reform. But it needed to be along the lines of tort reform and allowing interstate commerce to occur in purchasing/shopping for insurance plans. On top the fact that I have a visceral abhorrence for the sheer depth, scope and breath of influence that the federal government has developed over the lives of our citizens, there is also the fact that this law is UNCONSTITUTIONAL in the manner of its implementation. It is FORCING us to purchase insurance. The federal government has the right to regulate interstate commerce. However it does not have the right to FORCE us to engage in interstate commerce. This bill is a bad thing. Hopefully we will be able to prevent funding for it and then repeal / replace it after Obama is voted out of office.
  2. Hi everyone. As this is my first post, I guess the topic is rather appropriate. I decided to become a nurse for a number of reasons. I've been a stay at home dad for the past 4 years (I work nights as an account manager for a professional cleaning company) and have raised two wonderful little boys. During the birth of my second son, the midwife actually stepped aside and had ME deliver my son. It was remarkably moving - and messy. I loved it. Anyway, I have come to the conclusion at the age of 37 that I'm at heart a caregiver, and now I finally know what I want to be when I grow up. Took long enough. Plus the scope of opportunities and growth potential in the field is fantastic. Anyway, I start with my first prerequisite courses at the local community college and then I should be officially in the program by Fall. My BS is from FSU and in computers so... I have 5 classes to knock out before I can focus exclusively on nursing courses. I'm really excited about this and am glad I found this site. Dave
