Accepted job at NYP-Cornell!
I've recently got hired for a position at NYP. I already work there and applied for my transfer back in April. I interviewed with a Recruiter in June and then a Nurse manager in October. Be prepared to wait, bc they only call if there is an opening on a unit that is and if you are a new grad, it may take longer only if the unit is hiring New grads. I consistantly contacted HR every week during the summer, keeping my name in their ear. With new grads they ask your preference in the inital phone interview and they try to cater to your preference. After not hearing anything for a while, I told them that I prefer a job (bc my preference was OB/Peds/ICU). After meeting with the Nurse Manager I heard about 1 week later that I got the position. I was supposed to start on Nov 19th, but bc of the storm I wouldnt be able to have my physical and take the pharm exam in time, so I'll be starting in Jan. My advise is, if you dont hear anything, dont give up just keep being persisitant.

Bloomfield College
that is not true. i transfered to bloomfield and i didnt have the problems you are talking about. the professors are great and very helpful. remember that this is college and the professors arent going to hold your hand and do everything for you. there are always problems with every nursing school, no one is perfect. im a junior now and i enjoy the program. no nursing school is easy and you have to work hard.

The HRSA Nursing Scholarship: Financial Support for Underserved Care
Nope, I went to school today to clear my bill. The letter that they gave us is useless because it has no information on it regarding the amount of the scholarship and no personal info for the student ie. name, ss# etc. I called too see if they could fax a letter to the school and they said no I have to wait for the welcome packet; which hasnt been mailed yet. So I ended up having to do a pymt plan and paid almost $1800 today. Ultimately, I will get the money refunded, but its a little frustrating. Im glad I was able to do the payment plan.

The HRSA Nursing Scholarship: Financial Support for Underserved Care
This is really annoying, I need to clear my bill by the 28th, or I'll be charged a late fee. Ugh...Anyway hopefully they'll send the letters out tonight. An email from another person waiting... I called today & the man I spoke with said they are being sent out today. He said to expect them by the end of the week/beginning of next week.

The HRSA Nursing Scholarship: Financial Support for Underserved Care
Here I my essays, I wrote them about 10 minutes before heading to thepost office. I really didnt spend that much time on them and I dont think they are all that great. But Im brave enough to share... 1. How will you contribute to the mission of the Nursing Scholarship Program in providing care to underserved communities? If I am fortunate enough to receive the HRSA nursing scholarship, I would fulfill commitment required of me. Living in an underprivileged section of Brooklyn, I’m very aware of the needs of healthcare of so many, including myself. Being able to work in places where there is a nursing shortage and knowing that I’m helping so many is a reward in itself. Working in my community which is underserved would be a reward because I would be helping my neighbors and their neighbors. Upon completion of my BSN and then hopefully furthering my education, I have the ambition of opening a clinic for eating disorders in my neighborhood. Many people in my community suffer from eating disorders and there aren’t any treatment centers in my area that offer low-cost services. Treatment centers for these types of disorders are very expensive and definitely unaffordable to the underserved in my community. I just want to promote healthy living for people that don’t have the funds and the education on what is good for their well being. If I was to receive this scholarship, I would do my best to represent the HRSA organization. 2. What experiences have you had or activities have you participated in that have prepared you to work with underserved populations? In the fall of 2009, I volunteered at a school nurses office in the East New York section of Brooklyn for 4 months. The primary population at the school is black and Hispanic. Working in this school has prepared me to work with the underserved because this section of Brooklyn is low-mid income. Many of these children are from single parent homes and have government funded health care. More than half of the children have asthma and many have some sort of an attention deficit disorder. I also volunteer at the Shirley Chisholm Day Care Center as a member of the board of directors. I’ve been an active member since April of 2009. These centers offer free daycare services to children in various sections of Brooklyn, all in which are underserved areas. They provide exceptional education to children ranging in ages 2-5. Knowing that I am involved in a center that prepares children for their future is rewarding. Volunteering in these different areas of Brooklyn is preparing me for the population I will be working with once I complete my nursing degree. As our population grows, so will the need of healthcare and as much as things are expanding, there will always be people that won’t be able to receive the life saving care that they need and deserve. 3. Please discuss you commitment to pursue a career in primary health care. Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve always envisioned myself having a career in health care. Becoming a nurse would be a dream come true. From the visits to my doctor’s office and watching medical programs on television, I have been fascinated and amaze by the field of medicine, particularly nursing. I look at a career in nursing as a fulfilling and passionate way to help people who require medical assistance, especially those who are underserved. I cannot imagine a better way in which to spend my life by helping and promoting the health care of others. Being a nurse is something that I always wanted to do. Just in my first semester of clinical, I was able to experience such great and rewarding opportunities that I probably wouldn’t have been able to in another career. Nursing is something that I have committed to ever since I decided to become a nurse. There have been many obstacles that have tried to stop my pursuit of this career. But with determination and dedication, I’ve managed to overcome them and I’m working hard in school to fulfill my dream.
