  1. Hello! I have been an OB?L&D nurse for 19 years and I think that there can be cases of nipple confusion but they are rare. If your child is a good nurser than you should not have any problems with giving two bottles a day. At my last job we used SNS that you could tape onto your nipple for mothers who are not producing milk or they could be held on the finger and the infant can be feed that way. It looks like a baby bottle with a nipple and almost tlike an NG tube on the nipple. They seemed to work the best in my opinion.\ Good luck
  2. I remember when I started in L&D, I had a pretermer go quick like yours and the same thing happened with NICU. there are so many htings you need to remember to do , that when you firsst start out things will get missed. One of the nurses who I was working with told me that it takes at least a year to get comfortable with L&D and she was right. POINTER never assume the Doctor knows everything. Think about howmuch time the RN is with the pt and how often we go thru their chart while she is in labor and compare to the amount of time the DOctor uses the chart. Good Luck with you training. it does get easier

As all nurses know, you can't be knowledgable witrh every aspect of medicine. I think the idea of OB patients being triaged in the ER is very dangerouos at any gestation because of the scenario that happened to you. If your hospital is going to continue with this, a L&D nurse should be in the ER when any OB patient comes in. I have worked in OB for 17 years, when you get a call that a probable abruption is coming in , you are getting everything ready on your unit to get her delivered. That may be what happened at your hospital and why they didn't call you.
  5. The doc at our place did their own count but i would count them again after along with the sharps. We always set up the Docs carts so I would know exactly how many radiographic sponges and regular sponges there were before delivery.
  6. I am a 17 year L& D nurse and am going to be interviewing for a nurse clincian job for a OB/GYN clinic. I was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas on what the Doc's may ask me or if any one has any pointers. It has been a long time since I went to an interview. Thanks
