If the employers sees that you lied in your resume and employment application, there might be some issues..
  2. The reason why I say let it go because in the future there is going to be discrimination through out his career..And every time there is, will he go to the CEO or just move on? I would choose move on to another job while you would say complain and see if there is a change..He has only one semester left and that is a very short time..
  3. What will I tell a new nursing student....This might seem really harsh but I would say dont ever trust your co workers.."Nurses eat their young" really means "Nurses eat each other"
  4. I belive it was not the right choice..Many people face discrimination everyday such as minorities.....Speaking about it or prostesting will not change anything...It continues...Just my two cents..
  5. Why dont you do some research....Lives are at stake here and that is the most important issue to me....You are saying that you would let 2 people in an ambulance handle an emergency who was trained for only 4 weeks and they can do it without a paramedic....Read this: http://firstaid.about.com/od/emergencymedicalservices/qt/06_EMTBvsP.htm In the article it states: "Within the industry, it is very common to refer to a basic EMT as simply EMT, and to refer to EMT-Paramedics as paramedics."
  6. An EMT in California can be trained in 4 weeks..While community collleges in California train paramedics for about 9 months or more.. You tell this to a layman and you are going to have 2 EMTs who were trained for 4 weeks in an ambulance in an emergency, and see what you are going to end up with...As you said, EMT equals paramedics..That is what you are saying..I am not talking about levels..In an emergency, you have to react in what is going on...Call 911, and dont ask for a paramedic in the ambulance is lethal..
  7. A lot of people dont know that EMTs and paramedics are totally two different positions..A paramedic has more education than an EMT..An EMT can get trained in 4 months or less..But a paramedic needs about a year or more..That is in California..Like I know, when you call an ambulance or 911, make sure there is a paramedic in there and not just EMTs..My co worker mentioned this to me one time, when she called 911 and there was no life support for the patient because only EMTs where in the ambulance.. In short, an EMT is like a CNA and a paramedic is like a licensed nurse..
  8. Why do I hold such bitterness? Because, I remember how clinical instructors favor people..There was a 55 year old woman in my class and she was my friend..One of the clinical instructors behind her back called her, "slow" and she was put on probation.. It is hard to hold clinical instructors in high regard when I tried my best, and the instructor came out laughing his head off when he failed me.. But you see now I am a nurse..I just think that some clinical instructors are not always right..
  9. Let me tell you, that clinical instructors can fail a student for any reason..And that person can be safe also..
  10. You are saying that the clincal instructors are always right in failing a student. And sometimes that is not true..An instructor can have personality conflicts with a student..An instructor can favor some students than other students..That is just human nature..I remember when I failed my clincal..I did well in the classroom theory part..My clincal instructor was laughing his head off when he failed me..Really professional dont you think?
  11. You are wrong..A nursing instructor is not above anyone..The reason I belive this is because a clinical instructor failed me before..After I failied I went to another school...Now, I am a nurse and have been working for a year..What do I think about the clinical instructor who failed me? Well they are like a bad boss..
  12. I am scared of some CNAs...I dont dare even get near them because they will attack..LOL
  13. There was too much drama in my nursing school..I am glad that I dont see those people ever again..
  14. Oops, my bad..I thougtht it was the OP...sorry
  15. The patient requested that the aide can sleep...That is a supervision problem there..In home heatlh, the patient and the family are the supervisors..The home health agency does not supervise like how the family does...And it is not a child from reading the OP's post..
  16. Yea, if you report her, you are going to put the family and patient in trouble and not the aide..I belive that you were never exposed to home health..If you were, you would know that the family members make the rules that sometimes go against what the home health agency wants..A nurse can turn the family in and the patient because how they supervise..But in reality, the nurse should just leave if it gets to that point..
  17. Home health aides would not get difficult patients such as the ones that require constant looking after..The agency would get a LPN or a RN for the more difficult patients..
  18. One of my patients in home health lets another nurse watch movies and surf the internet a lot since he works long hours at their home...The patient encourages it..If this was reported to home health managment, then of course there would be like a lot of people saying, that is a no no also..But the bottom line, the patient and the family members have the final say on who can stay being a nurse at their home..
  19. But you have to realize that if the patient or family says do something like take a nap, then in their eyes it is okay..In home health, the family and the patient are the supervisors...Management is not there..
  20. I am a home health nurse..I work 6 hours a day with one patient and 4 hours a day with another patient..There is a lot of charting so I am quite busy at times..But sometimes, the patient wants me to watch movies with him on TV..I guess he likes the company since he does not see that many people because he is paralized..At times, there is down time, and a nurse can just sit down and do nothing..Sometimes that is the nature of the job..I guess, I am not there to do household chores...
  21. I bet many people say that discrimination does not happen..But it does...If I were you, I would let it go and just graduate from school and become a nurse..If you dont graduate, the oppressors will win and you will lose...
  22. There is an agency that hire medics for Iraq..The requirments are that he medics have to be a RN or a paramedic and another option....Here is the link and discussion about it and a lot of people want in: http://forums.firehouse.com/showthread.php?t=84807
  23. At some places, nurses will call in sick when they are really not sick..That is why you get an attitude..
  24. I know that more men are combat medics than women during a war..To be a medic in the current war in Iraq and Afganstan, a person has to be a RN or a paramedic.. Being a combat medic, I guess you can consider it male profession since, you will be in black hawk helicopters, hummers, and carrying the wounded over your shoulders... Probaby very different from the idea that nurses is a female dominated profession..
  25. This reminds me of something I did..Well I work at home health and the family told me to train a new nurse on G tube medication administration..There were like three medications I had to give..I took it out and poured in in a cup with water..Then the new nurse came in and I told her that the family wanted me to show you how and I asked her do you want to pour it in through the G tube...She refused saying telling me how unsafe it is.. Well I did not train her that day and said fine so I told the family that I did not train her because she did not trust me.. Overall, it was a negative experience for me..
