Ready to toss in the towel
Thank you to all who replied to me. I feel your pain, all of you. You ALL said it so well. I do think its time to look in another direction. What nursing has become, is not what nursing is suppose to be. I would gladly give a couple dollars of my pay to have more help on the floor. What about the upper heirarchy who get paid so much more for policing us??? It saddens me to feel this way but its all true. I feel badly for the new nurses out there. This is not what it is supposed to be like. Thanks again to all.

Ready to toss in the towel
:crying2:Over the past couple of years I have come to this site for answers and occasional comfort to know that Im not alone. Today I feel alone. After 21 years of nursing, both lpn and for the past 3 years rn, Im ready to give up. I recently started a new job at a local hopital on a tele unit. Im very comfortable with my skills and the nursing isnt the issue. Its the computer! I spend 75% of my time in the computer. Im slow at it for sure, but today i had to use 3 different computers because of malfunctions of some sort with all of them. Its a tough enough job that we do, taking care of people who seem to not appreciate what we do. I feel like a waitress, a maid and generally the one that gets dumped on most of the time. I understand that patients are hurting and sick, again not a new nurse. I just dont know if the direction that healthcare is going is a good one. Its always been about the almighty dollar, but now that is all I see. Please is there anyone out there who can cast a positive light in my direction? I hate to give up all these years, but Im not sure I can keep going.

Support Stickie for New nurses who are not coping
Hoping this is where I can get some advice. I was an LPN for almost 20 years. I worked acute/subacute/longterm and home care. After feeling like I had done all I could as an LPN I went on and got my RN. Now I am ready to quit nursing altogether. It was the worst move I have ever made. I cant find a job in a hospital, I did a critical care internship that lasted 4 months, but had to give it up due to the 80 mile commute. I have tele experience, am acls cert. trach/vent experience. I am stuck in home care because that is all I could get. I am at my wits end. I feel like Im worthless, no one will even talk to me. All I have been told is that my LPN experience dosent matter. I do agree the RN role is different, but all that experience dosent matter????? If I could find a different line of work I would move on, but im 41 and have been a nurse since I was 20. I never thought I would be in this position. Please, any advice, Im losing it.

HELP!!! Going on an interview for HH
Chelitta, be cautious, I am currently an RN new grad since April. I have worked for Maxim in Florida for 9 years doing peds home care. The work is awsome, the pay stinks. I have found not to expect much from the company itself, but learn from your experiences in your cases. The reason I and so many of my coworkers have stayed wasnt for the great company, but for the kids and families. It is very rewarding. If you are looking for a great company, decent benefits or pay, look somwhere else. Just my opinion but seems a few share it with me.

Anyone else feel like a world class idiot?
Hope it gets better, and i say that not only for you but for myself and other grads I know feel the same way. I am a new RN but an old LPN ( 18+ years). Im doing an internship at a huge hospital here in florida and although I thought all along this is what I wanted now I feel so empty and lost. Coming from a different role and a different perpective than most of my current coworkers I feel like a square peg. Organazational skills are lacking on my behalf and seems like the patient connection is lacking on my coworkers behalf. When did nursing become about spending 90% of your time in the computer and 10% with the patient. There is so much to do and know. I feel overwhelmed even though Ive been nursing for years. I think the best thing to do is just have some confidence in yourself. Give yourself a chance to learn. Trust me I have been in tears a few times. The frustration, now I know why young nurses leave the profession. Its not what I remember, from many years ago in a hospital setting. Seems you have to grow a bit of a tough skin these days to make it through. Just remember to keep the patient safe and trust your gut. Stay strong and good luck.

Numb
Took it today ( well yesterday considering its past two a.m.) All i can say is that Im numb. I have been an Lpn for 18+ years, and have had experience in many areas. I walked out of the test and as much as i wanted to cry I couldn't. Numb, that is the only word for it. I studied the ncsbn course, exam cram, Eri, and two others. I worked for hours every day for a month. I was waking up with weird random facts and lab results in my head every day. All I can say is if I didnt pass, I dont know how else i could have studied. I have done between 500 and 600 test questions a week, went over every rational i missed. I walked out of the test center feeling like I didnt know a thing. Test went to 110 questions. Numb.... that is all i can say....... :stone

New Grads - where is there a nursing glut?
Im in the Hernando County area, been looking in several counties including my own. I have applied at all of the major hospitals in my area, ( Tampa, Clearwater) now moving onto the Orlando area and keeping my fingers crossed.

New Grads - where is there a nursing glut?
Im a newly graduated nurse who has been an lpn for 18 years, thought it would be a piece of cake to get a job, WRONG!! I have never had so much trouble trying to find a job. It is very disheartening. Everyone wants expereinced nurses and I can truly understand that, but the age old question is how do you get the experience if no one will give you a chance. So I keep plugging along applying and working as an lpn. Seems strange to wonder if I will be out of work when I pass boards.

Witnessed a terrible death last night--pls help me...
In response to the euthanasia question... the orders were present... and i ask , if that were u lying there .. what would you want done for you. I have been an lpn for 18 years.. to have my rn completed in May. I have struggled with this same thing over the years, I always ask what is the right thing for this person, and what would I want if I were in that bed... Have peace in knowing that her suffering is over
