Do you have time to cut diabetic toenails?
I agree only a podiatrist should deal with a diabetics toenails. Healing process, potential for infection etc. However if you are a diabetic nurse, the rules change a little. Check your policy and procedure manual to find out if you are covered or not and the contraindications of the same

Interested in starting an agency
What area in florida as I may be able to advise you on who to contact with regard to contracts. Then I will get you the website on requirements. you will need a business plan and all policies and procedures. If you are able to do those yourself then it will save you a lot of money as you need both clinical and nursing. If not have some that are good but may need updating. The other thing is that some contracts require workers comp, while others you can use the 1099 rule. All this has to be in order prior to contacting the agency for your initial lisensure.

Mount Sinai
Miami Lakes is not so bad, once again the only thing is the traffic, depending on the shift that you will be doing. If you are days and on your way by at least 6.15 you are generally ok, same for going in at night. Provided no road delays of course. However seems to me Mount Sinai is not paying as well as it did before. I agree Mercy and Baptist are far more competative. I live on south beach and it is quite expensive, however people are always looking for roomies especially the travelling nurses. Check out the board by the cafe and in the ascher building. Good luck.

Do you take call?
ensure that the regular schedule does not interfere with the call schedule first of all. for the time on call and incentive is paid, normally by the hour should the nurse be called in. this means that the nurse will get an incentive just for volunteering. once the nurse gets called in the incentive is overridden and the nurse goes on to whatever hourly they earn. obviously overtime is also involved if they go over a certain amount of hours. the incentive encourages more people to volunteer as call is not mandatory.

Memory is horrible how am I ever going to make it
Index cards and then more index cards as well as visual aids seem to help. Also there are some courses on tape that you can use while in your car, or doing stuff around the house. That is how I did my CEN, listening to tapes to and from work. Good luck

ER nursing???
As a director of nursing, I am proud to say that I have hired new nurses into the ER. However an internship programme is very important, allowing the nurse to understand emergency nursing. During this time preparation and certification in ACLS, TNCC, PALS, and preparation for the CEN and other courses such as EKG interpretation as well as others is also essential. This course is usually around 6 months. Once the internship programme is completed, the nurse is with a preceptor, the time varies on this, however is extended if required. The success rate on the programme is high, dropouts usually occur within the first month. Most places require at least 1yr med/surg. Good luck to you a future ER Nurse. :welcome:

Governmental funding for disabled nurses
Workers comp are less than helpful and I am still waiting to settle with them. In the meantime I have basically had to get all my own equipment and the latest I have requested a further mediation as nothing is getting settled and they have not even covered me with a physician. I recently got a lawyer and hope to hear something more soon. Like always it is the last thing you think is going to happen and the physician I was seeing prior to them denying was very good. He did tell me not to get my hopes up as there is a lot of damage and I cannot even sit for very long without being in excrutiating pain. I just thought there might have been educational leads to follow up that would at least allow me to work at home a few hours a day. First of all I do need the co operation of the WC carrier but that is another saga in itself. Thank you very much for your response, if anything else comes to mind please let me know.

Governmental funding for disabled nurses
Does anyone know if there are any types of funding for disabled nurses. I have been disabled for 3 years now, however I have tried to keep up on current events in nursing. I am wheelchair bound so I know that I cannot do the impossible and do what I did before. I was a flight nurse as well as ER and Home Health to name a few. It just seems one gets hurt on the job and that is it. I am 41 years old and still feel there is a lot left for me to do, however constraints have to be taken into consideration. I have searched and seem to be unable to find any promising information. If anyone knows anything could you please let me know. Thank you.

Should I go to a funeral or funeral home?
It really depends on how you feel. There is nothing to say that you cannot go, however you have to know what you want to do. If you think it is just out of duty, you are not obligated. If you cared for the person and are aquainted with the family it is more difficult. Sleep on it and then see how you feel, either way you are a good person and you are concerned. You took care while alive and you can morn without going in your own way. Sometimes that is what I do. Feel better.

Is LPN school really that hard?!
My daughter is in the middle right now. Just make sure you study and there are guides to help you through. It is hard but worth it if you have the tools you need to help you suceed. Good luck
