  1. So it is up to you to find the best fit of a preceptor, however, if you can not find one GCU can assist you, but you could be driving up to 3 hours away, day or night shift.
  2. I agree. I couldn't believe so many didn't know about this site. And even the instructor. Lol We may be a step ahead on that one. Ha It was a great first week. Lots of new information but nothing compared to what lies ahead! Bring on a great semester!
  3. Haha we didn't get our syllabus till last tues. so not far long before you. Lol we only got a 2 week reading assignments in our welcome packets. Good luck! You will do great!
  4. Me too. 2-3 pages for each chapter so far.
  5. We are MCC.. Each is a lil different.
  6. Well I read ahead to week 2 reading, since it came out weeks ago in the welcome packet, and the nursing process was included in those chapters. That's in the NCLEX books. I have to write notes, I have photographic memory so writing the notes helps. And doing something physically, liking writing and highlighting is helpful! Practice practice practice!
  7. Sounds like you got it down Yes the sounds for the power points. I have a hogan fundamental NCLEX book and I do questions from that to help with my rationalization and applying. I love the questions!
  8. You have the time now to read the majority of each chapter. Do that and keep doing that till you get an idea of what works for you and what is needed for reading. I read the objectives, skim over those points, wrote out notes. Read the power points, listen to the voice overs, take notes on the power points and then re read anything I'm unclear of. About 8 hours just doing that. Plus vol. 2, and fundamental NCLEX stuff. Need anymore help let me know.
  9. Yes, there are so many of them to look over! You can set up a "pathways" also for your learning needs. I just bounce around to what Im reviewing and it helps that way. Check out the nursing process, assessments; vitals signs, 6 rights for med admin, 5 delegation rights.. These are good to know and become familiar with and simple enough to review with Picmonics! Good Luck
  10. Your so welcome! I hope it helps! And for 1/2 off you can't complain. Lol
  11. There is a subscription to open up additional pics It's says "subscribe" on top right. Also, If you have it on your phone, it's the mobile version. You can get it on you computer or iPad and it may pull up your subscription.
  12. As I referenced before, Picmonics is a great learning resource! Check it out online. It's actually 50% for a 6 month subscription now. :) For those going to MCC they will be coming to speak about it this (spring)semester!
  13. From other male students, as Long as it's kept neat and clean, your good. I didn't see anything about facial hair being discussed in the manual.
  14. I'm pretty sure. His may be expiring and need a refresher. But yes they can't go for very long without them. And def need to have it before clinicals.
  15. Contact the director and ask for the CNA waiver and they should fill it out no problem. Send it in to the board and you should be able to test no issues. It make take a few weeks and then you set up an appointment. You will need to test for both skills and written unless being in nursing schools gives you a chance to waive either. I don't see why they would tho. However, you can download a book from the board of nursing for the CNA test. Or google. Lol And brush up on the main objectives. Safety, privacy, sanitary, and CNA role/duties. And the skills they randomly choose to test you on. I think it's 5. Hope that helps. Good luck. It's not hard at all, just more of the pressure you put on yourself. And in block 3, you will nail the basics! Go for it!
  16. MCC afternoon here also! I guess it's supposed to help with clinicals and future job opportunities to have all the documents in one easy location. Online. Easy access. And if anything gets lost you can pull it right up. And employers can look it up and have all documents they need quickly. Im ready to start!
  17. I was told at registration we would be uploading docs to a site, but would we would hear more at orientation. So just wait till then :) From MCC
  18. T True. I'm with you. The nurse pack is more than gloves. There are skills we will be learning and having the pack, gives up supplies to use and practice. Not just standard gloves but sterile also. If you haven't used a pair of sterile yet, you will understand later But all else, I'm with you. What I will USE is the most important..
  19. It does say purchase by the 14th. So it is your choice if you wanted to purchase it. I'm sure they won't change their mind, but I want to know more of what I'm spending $700 on. Well.. you can subscribe in the app of picmonics. So once you start using it you will start to see it.
  20. I guess I should have read your post one more time. The "APP", you are referring to.. rather I was referring to is the skyscape app. It has most all books and resources all in one app, such as drug guide, nursing diagnosis, etc. Easy access, etc. Sorry..
  21. Its a program we will be using during the program to watch skills, do assignments, and Im hearing we need to be logged in for a specific amount of time each week. Im not for sure how long though. It was in the 2nd welcome packet they sent out. But I have been told to wait till orientation to purchase it. On another note, I have been doing some prep work and along with trying to enjoy the quiet before the storm aka "semester". I have found a recommended APP and its called Picmonics. Check it out. If you decide to subscribe and you would like a discount code for the subscription portion let me know and Ill message you the code. Its like 20% off. Im a visual learner so its already made a lot of the material easier to understand. Hope I clarified enough. :) Its a pr
  22. Yep only 2 required! I have a handful of NCLEX books also for prep on questions. The Hogan one I have for the fundamentals alone. It helps already to be looking over that one. Have you done the reading so far for the first 2 weeks? Very general but helpful. Also, what do you think of the ATI program we are required to purchase? I will wait till orientation, but $700 seems like a lot at one time when we could essentially purchase separate in each block specifically. The app I'm excited about, it's helpful to have so many resources in one easy location. Have u purchased scrubs yet?
  23. Hmm interesting they told me a lot. But from most of everyone I know or post on here it's block 3 we will want to look into taking the review courses. If you are good at math, your fine. If you study well and get the material, your good for the other class. Getting close now!
  24. Have you registered yet? They would have asked you if you wanted to register for two additional courses. One for med math review and another for the core nursing review.
  25. I start in Spring at MCC! Super excited!
