  1. wow! What a confusing scenary. First of all if they were not hiring why call you? It may have been that the Tuesday appointment that who ever they hired really sealed the deal for them. I would follow up with them but I would also keep trying to look elsewhere. I went through a similar scenary. I go for my second interview on Tuesday so let's see if this happens to me. With all of the preparation that you went through for this position, it only strengthens you more for your next opportunity. Dont give up, I am sure there will be something great out there for you.
  2. Much respect for those who work with peds! I have children of my own and my heart just breaks. What an emotional roller coaster. I absolutely love children and for them to be illness stricken or a result of a freak accident, i just cannot cope.
  3. OMG I could have wrote this post my self! I totally understand what you mean. My own mother got jealous and told me that I could not do it. Both my sisters do not talk to me. NO ONE in my family has a college degree. The only advice that I would give you is to surround yourself with positive people and the ones who bring joy. Most people do not like to see others "succeed". Its sad but very true. You accomplished what some can only dream about. Congratulations on becoming a NURSE! Such a wonderful title and a great feeling.
  4. I am in the High Desert in California. If I go to Victor Valley Community College I can enter as an ADvanced Nursing Student. There are like 6 pre reqs to do prior to taking the Nursing program. I am not sure on the costs. I did check out Everest which is a private college and its $60,000.
  5. I didnt, but I had 3 friends in nursing school who did. One had a warrant out for her arrest for like a whole $17 of a unpaid ticket from 10 years prior. I think they waited like 6 weeks. But our instructors had told them to write the letters PRIOR to taking the exam so that by the time the exam came they already had them in the system to be cleared. I would definently call and make sure they have everything that they need to get your paperwork done. Be persisitent. Talk to a different person everytime. Good Luck to you!
  6. Hi and welcome. I am an LVN. The best advice that i can give you is to speak to a guidance counselor at your junior college. I went to a private vocational school and you do NOT need pre-reqs for that. For the RN yes you do. When I entered in the vocational school i had to take an entrance exam. Basically its an exam to make sure you know the basics. The entry exam is not hard and basically covers high school stuff with common sense. As for your GPA, you have to have a DIPLOMA in order to become a nurse. So if this GPA is going to keep you from getting one then you need to work on that. If I could do it all over again I would have did better in Vocational school for my LVN. Even though when i took my boards I only got 87 questions and passed, I feel that I should have paid attention more. If you go to a vocational school I can answer your question and tell you NO you dont need pre-reqs. Now for a junior college, I never went there. I am assuming that you do need pre-reqs for pretty much everything. If you are planning on furthering your education sometime in the near future, meaning you want to do the LVN then in a year or two try the RN, I would say dont waste time and go straight to RN. Now to answer your next question, if they were doing away with LVN's then there wouldnt be schools for them. Do not believe everything you hear. If you have questions about that then contact the BVNPT. (The Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Techinicians) I know they are re-routing LVN's to certain practices meaning more for convalescent or Home Health care but I also know that they are using LVN's in the ER now. Just remember we can do everything an RN can do except push narcotics in an IV (expecting that the LVN is IV Certified) and a RN can make $15,000 + more than an LVN. I was told by my Nursing instructor who is a Dr. and he told me that the exam is the same for an LVN as it is for an RN. The only difference is the amount the RN has to get correct versus the amount the LVN has to get correct. Yes the content will be weighed more for RN but its basically the same thing.
