Aspiring Nurses: Why not Med School??
Too old, have 4 children and would rather be able to spend time with them and have their love and respect and still be able to help others without the additional liabilities, worries and college loans a doctor ends up with.

How do you focus when you have personal issues??
I had a husband fall of the wgaon, quit taking his bipolar/anxiety meds, found out my unborn son was afflicted with a serious birth deefect, had to move out while pregnant with my other 3 children and go to school full time during all of this including 5 surgeries my son had to have after birth so beleieve me I know where you are. I used the classes as a way to focus on something positive I was doing. It was the only little ray of hope I had that as long as I kept doing something positive that all would be okay. Hang in there!

would you tell your teacher about cheating students?
Although more than likely these people would never get past the testing point to actually be profesionals in this field, the fact that they have such poor integrity, character and morals at this point shows that they do not deserve the privilage of doing this job. I would rat them out and I would not care if they knew I did it. My pet peeve in life are people who do wrong and think it;s okay as long as they don't hurt anyone else but if they cheat it will throw off any curvers the instructor has and people who deserve the credit won't get it and people who don't deserve credit will get extra points etc...

Anyone getting in shape?
I believe you said you are almost 5'3. No one here meant to hurt your feelings or offend you. If you think you are fine you are entitled to feel that way but I would look at the fact that so many who have direct and indirect knowledge of nutrition etc..( I am a certified fitness instructor and trainer), many are nurses and professionals have voiced a concern because what you are proclaiming to be healthy defys all logic. Even at barely 5'3 small frame your BMI cannot be healthy if you are ( almost back down to double digets as I think you said somewhere else). You have support here but if you are waiting for someone to step up and say that what you are doing sounds healthy that's about as likely as an alcoholic being told he does not drink too much. Excuse us for caring about you! Live your life and do what you want but don't berrate people for taking the facts of nutrition and applying them to your case because they definietly do apply and I believe everyone here genuinely cares.

You really need to try to get in a minimum of 1200 calories. If it is easier for you to consume very small portions at a time then actually eating more often ( say every 2 hours) would speed your fat burning without causing you to feel bloated. You can eat healthy without having to carry alot. Just divide the foods up into ziplock bags into the two hour intervals and throw them in your bag. Be careful not to get yourself into a bad cycle. I was anorexic at the age og 19 and I felt a lot like you. I could not stand the feeling of food sitting in my belly. Eat small but eat often. Best of luck to you! Get some rest too!! :)

Student Loans for not so good credit?
Have you checked with Nursing Scholarships offered by the state you live in? Many states have scho. that will pay up to 15,000 per semester if you have been accepted into a nursing program. The wonderful thing is that you have two options in repayment. You can either agree to work as a RN in that state for a specified amount of time and as long as you work as a nurse anywhere in that state for that amount of time they will forgive the loan completely or you can pay it back at a very low percentage rate over ten years. NC has many and I know TN did too. Go serach for nursing scho. for the state you live in and see what you can find or ask the finacial aid office to give you links.

Oh Apnea!!! You are going to counteract all the good exercise you are doing if you continue to eat such a minimal amount of calories!!! You should never eat below 1200!! You have to think of your body as a wood stove. You get up and put wood in a stove to warm the house but you have to go back every 4 hours to add more wood or the stove grows cold and stops working. Your bodies metabolism is the same. You need to get up and have a breakfast that is about 60% protein and 40% carbs. I make a smoothie. I use 1 cup skim milk, 1/2 a frozen banana, 1 tablespoon peanut butter, 1/2 scoop protein powder and a few ice cubes. Blend that up. It taste like a milkshake and it is good for you. (400 calories) then lunch have a medium garden salad(no cheese or bacon just veggies), with a bit of fat free or reduced calorie dressing, a peice of whole wheat pita bread toasted and you can put a little Hummus, or low fat cream cheese on it(400 calories) then have a snack 4 hours later keep it around 200 calories and atleats 50% protein, then have dinner keep the portions small(400-500 calories) but if you eat atleast 60/40 protein carbs you will be full and it will maintain your lean muscle mass and encourage your body to lose the fat storage. You can vary this menu but it works. I like to use the AES low carb shakes. They have 17 grams of protein and only 1g impact carbs in place of milk in my smoothies and then I will have that for a snack to. If you put a whole frozen banana and all the rest it will make it an icecream consistancy and it's good. You have the moving part down but if you starve yourself your body will shut down and stop burning the fat no matter how much you work out! Best of luck and for heavens sakes girl EAT!!!!! You have to eat to lose!!!!

Anyone getting in shape?
Yes, I started working out again in March a year after the birth of my fourth son. I work out in the gym an hour and a half (30 cardio, 60 heavy weight training) 5-6 days a week. I lost 18 pounds of fat, gained 12 pounds of muscle and went from a size 12 down to a 4! I love working out. It is such an energizer and a much needed break from the routine of family etc.. I have always beem into fitness. Was in the Army and then became a certified personal trainer in my twenties and also taught cardio kick boxing but then at about 33 I got lazy, distracted and quit it all. I gained and felt lousey. Now that I am back in shape I will never stop working out again! YOu keep it up. You are doing Great!!!! CONGRATS!!!!!

Are we all old???
i am also new to this board. i am 37. i am a happily married mom of 4. two daughters ages 14 and 12. two sons ages 9 and 17 months. my youngest son was born with spina bifida myleo l1-l2, hydrocephulus ( he has a vp shunt), and chiarri ii malformation. i have been in school for 5 years now working towards a bsrn. i was a senior at the university but when my son was born i had to relocate from tn to nc and in having to transfer schools i lost tons of credit hours between programs which made me a sophomore at barton college which threw off my finacial aide. i decided to go to the community college and finish my rn license requirements because it's quicker and more economical. after i finally get licensed i will only have 9-12 hours left to complete my bs so i will do that online. it has been a long stressful at times journey but that makes a goal all that much sweeter when it is finally reached it's fruition. i have a very busy schedule between normal mom functions, my youngest son's therapy sessions ( ot,pt,st regular dr appoinments) but i love learning and going to campus gives me a little down time.
