  1. I have worked with a Nurse Nurse, a Dr De'Ath and a Dr Blood...................great names!!:roll
  2. I feel the same, I only have time off if I really need it but one or two of those times was because too tired, I had been working 14 hour shifts and working on my days off and it all took it's toll. We are nurses not martyrs, and nursing should not be the most important thing in your life, (if it is you need to get a life!, sorry) If you're ill, take the time off, we are entitled to some sick leave, and you will only make things worse in the long run. And you shouldn't worry too much about leaving the ward short, isn't that what agency nurses are for?!!:)
  3. The issue here was not that the nursewanted to leave the premises during her break but that she insisted on leaving there and then. Yes we are all entitled to breaks, paid or unpaid, (whether we get them is another story! )but breaks are taken when it's convienient. If the ward is busy then you wait 'till it's less busy. If your break time is your priority then you have the wrong attitude for the job! I work with people with this same attitude and it leaves certain people doing more than their fair share while others put their feet up !!!
  4. I work in a general hospital in England and we have the same "solution " over here. I personally don't think this is the answer, there are too many overseas nurses here who have language difficulties , and I don't feel the process in this country is good enough to adapt these nurses to nursing here. Don't get me wrong, I work with some very good nurses who trained elsewhere but there are far more who are having trouble understanding English! We need to be training our own nurses and not poaching from other countries. This is not a long term soloution as retaining these nurses is difficult, eventually they're all going to go home!
