Nursing for IHS in Arizona
i worked with these tribes for a little while in tuba city, az. i loved it! they were wonderful to work with. i am trying to go back to arizona to work directly for ihs. it did make me sad that i was limited in the quality of care i could provide. but each of us can make a difference by giving the best care we can.

NAI descent: Roll Call
okay,i am so tired of not being able to prove my nai blood b/c of shame stemming from racism in the past.why is there not a dna test to prove your nai blood??? we hve very specific things that are found only with native americans!!! for example the shovel teeth, and our very specific foot shape. not to mention the different pigmentation of our skin. i realize that not all of us who are not fbi (full blooded indian) have all of these traits, but there has to be a dna marker that identifies us! i want to make clear now that to those of you who don't know me, this is not about gov. help or money. i just want to be able to prove who i am! it is interesting that no one has explored these options as of yet, don't ya think??:smackingf

NAI descent: Roll Call
Zoesgarden, You gave me a much needed laugh. I now can speak to the problem on Reservation healthcare. I came to Tuba City with a full heart. and bonded with many of my patients. This hospital provides care for the Navajo (Dine') and the Hopi Tribes. The problem is the management. I was providing geat care and learnong a great deal, when my contract was broken based on lies! I have a strong feeling that if the Navajo and Hopi Tibes were aware what was going on, they would be upset! After having over 480 treaties broken by the American Gov. I would think that they would not look kindly upon having contracts broken based on lies, with nurses who truly care aout the NAvajo and Hopi Tribes and honestly wants to improve thier care. Domestic Violence in American Indian Women
well, although the stats sadden me. i will not become a part of them. i have been the victim of abuse many times in my life, and as a grown woman i won't be again! i keep a shot gun in my home and would not hesitate to use it. i will not spend my life looking over my shoulder! i was forced to get a restraining order against the father of my daughter. i only did so as a warning to him. he knows better than to come to my home. i would not want to be forced to use my gun but i would. and i will be taking my gun with me on my assignment. i had a friend that was a police officer, he told me that they just got there in time to clean up the mess. he recomended to all women to keep a gun in the home. just my personal opinion. stats say that if you leave an abusive s.o. or spouse that you are at more risk of being killed. i personally don't want to become a stat. i think that women have to protect themselves. just my

Health care on the reservation truly shocking
wanted to do a quick post to let you all know, my job is set. i start work on the navajo reservation on dec. 10th at tuba city hospital er. i am currently raising funds to get me and my family there. i spoke to the knights of columbus tonight and they assured me they will provide help. i just don't know how much yet. also my recruiter found a 1 day pals povider course. i am worried. i do it this sat. i know pals is hard, even though i have acls and other advance courses, the med. calculations worry me. since it is normally a 2 day course, i will really have to cram, and i can't get the book until thursday. so please say a prayer and keep your fingers crossed for me that my mind is open and able to remember everything so i can pass.:chair: i will try to come back in before we go but we now have 12 days until i am supposed to show up to work! everything is happening very fast, i am very nervous moving my disabled mother, critical daughter,17mo son and myself to an area where i know no one. i am praying the navajo people will be kind, i really want to help and that comes out to those i care for. also wolfie, did chief thunderhawk say anything to you about his "tell me grandfather" program he really wanted to start, but could not find backing? he gave me the information and i have been talking to men in the nai communities i fo to about starting this program. they have said that if i will lead it they will donate their time to it. it is to help save the next generation. i want to start the program and name it after chief thunderhawk as a tribute to his life and work. so i am also going to start working on that soon after i get there. if you have any suggestions please letme know. gotta grab a little sleep. walk in peace, medicine eagle

Health care on the reservation truly shocking
Well you could always contact IHS, but I think you already know they don't give a care. I think the only thing we can do is each go and work. Give of ourselves. Thats all I know to do.

Continental Confederation of Adopted Indians (CCAI)
i wanted to let everyone know that you can sign chief thunderhawk's memorial guest book online. you can post a message for his family there. i don't know enough about computers to post the site where you can just click on it. just go to the list of people and click on leland conner. here is the site: www.cardaras.com . peace to you and your family wolfie. my family is still a wreck, except the kids. we chose not to tell catie, she is very sick and she really loved chief thunderhawk. catie does not need to know someone very long for her to love them deeply. his death would break her little heart. the only peace i can find, is that if catie dies he will care for her in heaven until i can get there. grandfather conner will be waiting when she gets there. also i believe that he is looking down on us and watching out for us all.

Continental Confederation of Adopted Indians (CCAI)
i just recieved the news. my family and i are also devistated. my sorrow is also very deep. i can't quit crying. thank you wolfie for introducing me to this great man and his sweet wife. i had not gotten to tell you about the insane trip we had yet. medicine eagle is the name he gave me. i just talked to summer dawn about flying her and leland to az, after i get there and get everybody settled. we wanted to be able to spend more time with them. i can't tell those of you who did not know him, what a very special person he was. he was a humble, kind, generous person. he would have told you that he was nothing special. but he was extrodinary. i called and got an update on summer dawn his wife. her status has been upgraded to serious from critical. i have to go i can't see the keys anymors from crying. i just felt like i should post something about this amazing man and how much the world lost with the death of this one man.

For Teachers-->American Indians: What NOT to teach
i completely agree. i was proud yesterday when i found out that there were protests against columbus day! i thought i was all alone in my yelling and waving my arms around. yelling this man should not be celebrated!!! the native americans who survived despite him and andrew jackson should! then much to my suprise and delight i fopund out that there are states that no longer celebrate this monster and i think it was michigan??? who has renamed the day native american day! bout time!!! tbh:monkeydance:

Nike unveils shoe just for American Indians
vetnrse, i know what you are saying. me and both of my children are flat footed. why does every shoe maker put in those great big arches. i can't wear them. it is painful. supposedly they casted and tested the feet of many different nai, and this is what they came up with. narrow heels and wide front. but pleeease don't forget no arches! i spent 2 hours trying on shoes for an interview today, and finally had to give up. by the way, am i the only native american woman who can't wear high heels??? my foot does not bend that way!!! all my friends can. i think it may be an arch thing again. tbh:banghead:

Two Questions
leslymill, i am suprised it does not sound like you give god the credit for saving you from your evil father. i hope not to offend anyone, but i do not recognize satan the deciever and author of confusion and destruction as a church. it sounds as if you were sent to save your life. another thing i would have people know that directly before the great tsunami the government in that area had just decided to kick all of the christian missionarys out of the area. i am not trying to get religious. i am very aware of how horribly my nai ancestors and the nai people have been treated in the name of god. that was beyond wrong and i believe those who do horrible things in his name will be punished. god is not the author of confusion not is he the author of destruction. the atrocities committed against the native americans in gods name will be punished. maybe not years ago, today ,or tomorrow but i firmly believe that those who comitted these acts will be punished. sorry did not mean to rant. and i sincerely hope that this post will not be deleted. i realize that it is off topic. thanks, tbh

Two Questions
okay now i have another question leslymill. lol what is a mystic christian? i am so glad that i misunderstood you! no offense intended, just wondering what a mystic christian is. i am nai and a christian, so i was interested in what that was. thanks, tbh

Two Questions
leslymill, i am confused about your post. could you please clarify it for me. it sounds to me as if you are putting down shamans. i am sure i misunderstood. surely that was not the intent of your post? tiredbraveheart:confused:

Please Pray
i appreciate your suggestions, but i have already tried everyting. if we were from another country, they would provide the needed brain surgery. the top pediatric neurosurgeon is in az. he is the only one doing the surgery that catie needs in the usa. but thanks for the ideas. tiredbraveheart

Please Pray
i wanted to let all know, that catie has been granted her dream.she is being sent to florida to disney land. we will take off driving on the 18th of this month. she is excited. our dr. is out of town and does not come back until the 18th. so we will see him on the 18th at 0845 then hopefully fill rx. for spasms and pain for at least catie if not me also. i had a bad fall the other night and think that i may have broken my left elbow. i am praying that we will be able to find a way to get our adoption comleted on the same trip. she still is getting sicker every day. her pain is quite severe now. she was in so much pain that i had to give her pain medication for her headache before she started feeling better and was able to get excited about the trip. tiredbraveheart:(

Please Pray
i want to sincerely thank all of you. catie continues to worsen. they are putting a rush on her dream trip. i should be hearing any day when we are going on the trip. she is so brave and strong. she really is my hero. i don't say that lightly, i really mean it. when she was 5 years old, without using lidocaine they spent 5 and a 1/2 hours trying to start a pic line. she did not have to be held down. she knew that it had to be done. she cried until her eyes were swollen almost shut, and she had saturated her clothing and hair with sweat. she is amazing. but, she is tired now and i don't blame her. i never used to use the internet. i used to get onto my mom, telling her that those people could be anyone. they probably were not even who they said they were. i thank god daily that i changed my mind. you guys have really lifted me up. i am greatful all the time to have friends like you. you have been such a source of strength and encouragement. i have to be strong for everyone. this is the only place i have to fall apart. my mom is one of those dramatic people that can't handle the really tough stuff, i have to be strong for catie, and also for my son. so you guys are the only place i can go to let the tears fall and let out the fear and frustration. may god/the great spirit bless each and every one of you! please keep praying for catie. i am growing more afraid everyday that she will crash before i can get her to az. especially since i lost my job. i am looking for another job now. i have to make money to move my family to az. at least $2000, so that we can move everyone and survive until i get my first check. the nursing agency is ready to send me as a traveler to az. just as soon as i get the money together. there is one lady in town that is pretty good at fund raisers. i am going to call her and see if she will help organize one, even if it is just standing at the 4 way stop with cans. i hate to do it. i have always taken care of my own. working 2 jobs or what ever i had to do. but with catie sick and a baby, i can't work 2 jobs, shoot i am trying to get hired on at just one place. thanks for lettingme vent.

Please Pray
i can't thak you all enough for your kind words and prayers.she is getting worse by the day now. last night my mom heard her take a huge gasp of air. she thinks that catie had stopped breathing and started again. my deceased grandmother came again last night. thunderwolf, you kind words brought tears to my eyes. i am nothing special. when it is your child you do what ever you have to do, because it is your child. there are no heroics, except by my daughter. she has been through so much. if i took days i could not tell you all of the times she has been tougher than i will ever be. we talked about death today and seeing her ancestors. i am still up b/c i am watching her and my 15mo son is sick cutting teeth. runny nose, cough, fever, and diarrhea. on top of everyting i was dnr'd from the er i was working b/c a few times i was a little late b/c of my daughter. keep in mind that i worked 17 hours straight without eating or going to the bathroom..also i never took a lunch break. i always more than made up y time. so now i am looking for a new job,so i can get the money to take her to az. , and also to pay the adoption fee. thanks again to all of you. sometimes it is on the wings of your friends that you fly because yours are too worn out to fly alone anymore.

Nike unveils shoe just for American Indians
Thunderwolf, I could have misunderstood when I read the article, but it stated clearly that these shoes would be marketed to Native Americans only. It said that they would not make these openly available. Maybe those of mixed blood will be allowed access as well, that would be great. By the way I find it very interesting that professionals could actually tell I am Indian by my teeth and my feet. What an odd concept.

Please Pray
please pray for my daughter catie. she is getting worse by the day. i still am having trouble comming up with the funds to get her to az. where i would have a job and insurance. i awoke last night to her screaming in pain. she has dystonia of her neck muscles and her head was pulled all the way back to her neck, with the muscles in a spasm. i gave her what medication i could and applied heat, but we had to wait with her in agony until the meds kicked in. for those of you who don't know my daughter catie. she has survived 43 brain surgeries and well over 50 total surgeries in the last 11 years.she will be 16 in november of this year. she has spina bifida c3-t3 mylomenigocele, hydrocephalous, slit ventricle syndrome, a ventricle-pleural shunt, epilepsy, arnold chiari malformation type ii for which she has had a posterior fossa decompression (removal of a 1 in. wide strip of bone in the occipital area),dystonia of the neck muscles, mr, and dyslexia. she has respritory arrested twice, once at home in my arms. i could write a book about what she has survived. she is being granted a dream.her dream is to swim with the dolphins in orlando,fl. we are waiting to find out how soon she can go. they are rushing the trip as much as possible. i am afraid that she might not make it if they don't hurry. we have to drive since she can't fly, which is a good thing b/c we are going to be adopted into the ccai, and catie is thrilled about it she can't wait to meet chief thunderhawk and recive her indian name. we can drive the 4 hours or so to ohio, stay the night after the ceremony and the i can drive the 14 hours to orlando from there. this way all of her dreams can come true. she needs to see the neurosurgeon in az. he is the top pediatric neurosurgeon in the country. i am not sure she will make it. there are no groups to help send her there, the only way is for me to take a travel nurse position. that way she will have insurance. she has been visited in her dreams several times by my deceased grandmother asking her if she was ready to go to heaven or if she wants to continue to stay with us in pain. she came again last night to her after she finally relaxed and was able to sleep. some of you may not believe that this can happen or does, but we believe her. she has told me about deceased ancestors that she never knew. at any rate she is very sick and close to dying. please say a prayer that she at least gets her dreams. also please pray for peace for her, and for god or the great spirit to ease her suffering. sorry this post is so long. thank you in advance for your prayers. tiredbraveheart:bluecry1:

Nike unveils shoe just for American Indians
I went to the site and I think that this is a great thing. I have always had problems with shoes fitting my feet. Seems that perhaps it is r/t my NAI blood. I have a narrow heel and wider front to my foot. My mother just told me that even as a child that she would have to put multiple band-aids and other things in the heels of my shoes b/c the heels would flop on my feet and rub blisters. I have had the same problems as an adult. I have the same problem with both of my children's feet. After looking at these I think they might be the answer to a problem we have. However, since we have no Tribal affiliation we will not have access to these. I have NAI blood on 4 sides but b/c of racism my ancestors hid their NAI blood. So I can not trace my lines and prove my "blood percentage". So if I understood everything correctly, my children and myself will not have access to these shoes. Even if we are adopted into the CCAI. Wolfie, what do you think? It would be a good thing for us and I would not have a problem paying full price for them vs the decreased price they are offering to the Reservations. But I still don't think that we will have access to them. TiredBraveHeart

NAI descent: Roll Call
May God/ The Great Spirit smile upon you and your family who has given much to this country. I have a terminal daughter, so I can empathize with your loss. Also per Thunderwolf aka Wolfie, the roll call here acknowledges anyone of American Indian descent. So you must count my sister. I apologize for not seeing your post earlier. TiredBraveHeart
