  1. When I first moved here (to join my husband) I had NO idea whatsoever re: health care system in place here. Guess I wasn't prepared for it. I had my baby in Canada and was pampered from the time she was born (nurse visits for a week after birth(mother and baby assesments,24 h nurse phone line, nurse clinics open 6 days a week, so if u have a concern u could stop by anytime(weight, growth, breastfeeding concerns, etc, etc. ) so when we came here and my fist encounter was the one described above I was speechless. We appied for Medical for my daughter because at that time only my husband was working(I stayed at home with baby on maternity leave)and they gave her temp coverage, so we went to ER with our blue and white Medical card, thinking she is covered. Big surprise. Apparently she was covered all the time we were in US BUT until a day before ER?? Re: payments and working it out, believe me, we've been through that circle, speaking to hospital, going from social worker, to social worker trying to figure out what happened. I felt that upon admission to the hospital at least it could've been mentioned to us if the coverage was closed 1 day before?Instead they took such a long time in admission process verifiing benefits etc, then, after 2 hours in waiting room admited us and then..pay up.but but she had medical.too bad so sad. Thanks for clarifying. I wouldn't say that babies r expensive though, especially breastfed, if you don't have to take them to ER without insurace, I can assure you, they are not a financial burden. Older kids, on the other hand..but we do at this time, thank G, both have jobs and can support them, so Im also not complaining.:) I feel as if you're twisting my words. What I said was, meaning if you don't have a good credit history in this country, you're doomed (by that I mean -forget about buying car, house, even getting credit card,etc.).
  2. Ditto. When we first moved in USA and applied for Medical for out baby daughter it was denied, eventhough only my husband was employed at the time and his income was barely above the "required". The Denial came a week after we had to rash to to ER(2 days of fever, she is 5 month, breastfed, and started throwing up at mignight) stating that temporary coverage was ended ONE day before ER trip. Wha? And then, in a few days, we get 6,000$ bill from the hospital ,which we couldn't pay, cause, well, I was a stayhome mom and my hubby is not an engeneer.:) So yeah, the hospital won't deny you service but u better believe it they'll bill you. Can't afford to pay, well=goodbay credit history, which is what we have right now. Bad credit. In US u r doomed basically. I am Russian-Canadian trained nurse so have experienced and can compare health care in 3 contries (counting US o/c). Responding to poster who was saying that most people who say health care is expensive spend money on iphone crap etc. Well, here is one that don't. Mother of 2. Both, me and my hubby, working full time jobs like any dutifull citizens.
  3. Nurse educate and Agiie2000- that you very much for your advice!:) I think you r right, that's what I am going to do. So, pretty much decided not to mention anything until before I get hired(hoping it happens soon ,before I start showing). Will keep my fingers crossed for med. insurance. Just wondering though, approximately how much does it cost to have a baby if you are not covered?Does anybody know? This is exactly how I feel, Aggie! It was meant to be. Interestingly enough I found out about pregnancy day after I visited church(I am russian orthodox, so our Easter was end of April), so I tell ya, definitely a sign from God.:))
  4. luv4nursing thanks for the reply, i really appreciate all the advice.:redbeathe i don't know why i feel as if i am going to let them down or something, hehe. almost like lying and i never lie, cause first of all i feel really bad and secondly you can always tell if i am am hehehe. with my first pregnancy i was working right until about a week before i gave birth, so keeping my fingers crossed that this one(pregn.) doesn't go any different form the last one.:bowingpur r u serious about insurance? wow, omg, i have no idea what to do, we surely can't aford all the medical bills. i moved here from canada, where for 25 $ a month i was covered for everything and anything..so i am all new to all this medical insurance staff here...pregnancy would count as preexisting? holly molly, what are we to do..
  5. Hey everybody! Although I posted a few replies in NCLEX forum I am new to these boards so the question might've already been asked, if so,could you please direct me where to go and do some reading.. I am a new grad, just passed NCLEX a few days ago and now..I don't know what to do. Good news come in packages, that's how it works for us(me and my dh) all the time hehehe. The thing is, as I was getting ready to take the test, about a week and a half before that, I found out that I was pregnant. Financially we are very unstable, only my dh works at this time and my daughter is attending preschool, my goal was to prep for NCLEX, take the test and start looking for jobs... now I am not sure if the hospital will hire me..or do I just not tell them that I am pregnant? i am about 6 weeks along now and for the past few days I've been picking my brain as to what to do. We desperately need some money, as bills are swallowing us, don't have any medical insurance now either, must find work... But I am so afraid they are not going to hire me now or if they do, how do I let them know that I am pregnant? ANY advice would be greatly appreciated...Please,please, pretty please..
  6. omg!!!! i can not believe it!! congratulations!!!!!yuppieee!!!! did you also test in cali? i only found this thread today, otherwise i would've offered some support and encouragement to you!! yesterday i was browsing this forum for sata threads to see how people did with those types of q's hehehehe and also looked at some i passed threads, jjust to stay positive .:)))) oh my lord! we are rn's now..i can't believe still. it's been a looong way for me. first an rn in russia, then had to take test in canada, became an rn in canada..and now, finally, with a second try- rn in usa. gwafuh_2busrn thank you!!
  7. congratulations!!!!!!:yeah: i also found my name on brn site today and am still doubting if it's not a mistake..:)))) maybe should call the board and confirm, huh?
  8. Thanks ,missmykids!:redbeathe:loveya: PS to all: I am sorry about one zillion spelling mistakes in above post. I went to edit it but apparently we are only allowed to edit 5 min after we post.
  9. congrats to all the new rns!! way to go you guys!!! i sat for test on sat., may 10..and wasn't going to check the brn website for at least a week. but i just had to today :))..imagine my surprise when ,after entering my name, it came up with license number..omg..at first i sat in disbelief, then (shaking) started to dial my hubby's number and(while crying) "maaaark, how many irina's with this last name do you think there are in la?????? i think i passed but i am not sure...maybe it's some other irina????" (sobbing at the same time). ..omg, i really can not believe it..maybe only when i get an actual license in mail..i am at loss for words.. can it frigging be true??? this was my second attempt at nclex, first one was last june(96 questions) and i came out of test 99.9% sure i failed. this time even when i went to test i was as cool as a cucumber..partially b/c i am pregnant right now and the only thought that preoccupies my mind right now is what else to do to get rid of constant nausea (hehehe), sooo i never had time to be anxious about the test...even when i came out of test my first thought was "ok, let's quickly eat something" (teeheehee). what did i use to prepare. one book that i really love is illustrated study guide for nclex-rn, 6 edition(by joann zerwekh (author), jo carol claborn (author) ) the i just finished kaplan review course. actually, my exam was in two day after the last class.:))) everybody thought that i was crazy but i thought"hey, everything is still super fresh on my head, why not". so last class was on thursday and exam on saturday, i didn't even open a book or reviewed one question in those 2 days before exam(had other things on my mind, like my 3 y.o. mother's day concert and such). exam itself, i found was quite a bit different from what i remembered last year. i felt like practically every other question was sata...or infection control. a few meds like psych, antibiotics, and one for osteoporosis. with med wuestions you have to really read the stem and look at answers, sometimes it's not really a med type answers but they really want to test you on safety and such. anywho, i got about 70 q in 2 hours and took a break(had to eat something cause i started to feel nausea coming up).after the break felt refreshed, came back and really took my time with every following question. after 75 computer said bye-bye,go do a questionnaire. that's it, came out ate the rest of my bagel with cream cheese and called my hubby to come pick me up. this time i was not stressing atall. i remember last year when my husband attempted to "i ma sure you passed",i was ready to kick his butt hehehe..this time i was really ok..had a sense of calmness. i am sorry about such a long post, i always tend to go on, and on,and on..:))) good luck to all who are studying!!! i will be sending you a positive pass vibes!! so..ehhhh..do ya think i can start celebrating..is it really my frigging name on brn website????agrrrr .:)))))))))))))))) geeeeesh...i better and make myself a cup of tea :))))
  10. Unfortunately I didn't pass, just received my results via US mail today. Sooooo, I guess it's back to books(G. knows I hate them now) and Q banks.. Everybody, stay positive! I am sure you'll receive a happy news really soon!
  11. i definitely will!(keep updated that is) oh, when i came out from the test room and called my hubby i just said "don't even start saying "i know u passed" cause i am 99% sure i didn't"..honestly, felt as if i guessed on every single question that came..anyways,got home, felt depressed for the rest of the day and then cried in my husband's arms when he got home. i feel better now, kinda got myself ready for re-writing the test but can they not send me the results sooner so that i'd atleast start studying(wanted to start studying right away but hubby wouldn't let me,just said "rest!"hehe)... i am a foreign trained nurse -russia&canada, yup, first russia, then had to repeat the procces in canada:uhoh3:=feels like i am going to be taking the board exams for the rest of my life ;)hehe..sooooo, maybe that's why it's taking longer? who knows, will just sit and wait, although it's quite tiring to answer "no,i don't know yet" to the family and friends who are constantly asking about the nclex results yes,it's annoying that they won't release the results even when u come in person but when i think about it the waiting period is still much shorter then, say,in canada, i had to wait about 3 month before i received my results. ps: u have a wedidng coming up? woohoo! congrats!:))
  12. Hey all! I took NCLEX on the 19th of,yes, JUNE and still nothing..felling pretty darn low...For the past few days I've been having dreams about the stupid test and not good ones(I fail the darn exam in them all the time)
  13. Hey Molly! I have a strong feeling that you passed!:biere: I don't know why but I do! :) I,on the other hand, am definitely sure I have to write it again:smackingf ..I actually had a huge melt down yesterday in the evening hehehe It was so hard to find time to study(my 2.5 year old won't let me get near book it if't not the ones that I have to read to her :)) so my studying was like an 1 or 2 in the evening ,when my hubby came home and took her to the park. It was such a stressfull month, thought I am going to go nuts, cause I knew that I HAD to study more and couldn't spend as much time and so was so anxious al the time. Oh well, what's done is done, will just wait..not really hoping for anything though So, is it 45 days from the day u wrote the test or from the time u received pass/fail from BON?
  14. Hi, eeyoue4life! So, how did ya do ??Can we congratulate you or what?:) I could've written your post, it sounds so much like what I am feeling right now...although it did let me proceed to about 96-100 Q's
  15. Hi all! I just came home from the test centre, had my exam today, about 96-100 Q's..Feel totaly depressed, I don't think I passed, in fact I feel 99% sure I haven't. Sooooo much pharm Q's and most of them I had to guess (.Pharmacy is my weakness and test picked it up really well I guess. In Cali how long do u have to wait until you can take the exam again? I am pretty sure I will have to take NCLEX again. Mollymil,my friend took NCLEX not even a month ago and about 4 days after taking it she saw her name on state board website(I think??I am not sure) which meant she passed. I am not really to sure where to look but will try calling her today.
