  1. Don't know too much about the baton rouge location, but I think it is good. Ochsner Main Campus is a very good hospital in New Orleans. It has magnet status. I love it as a patient; have been going since i was born. Where are you from?
  2. They used to have a girl from the children's playroom come into procedures with me. On the way back from one of my cath's I asked her if she would marry me. The answer was yes, but only if I was older haha. I think it was my last open heart; once they put me on the OR table I started yelling "help help I'm falling off the table." It felt like the table had stood up and I was slliding off.
  3. do yall plan on working while in school? I just got hired with Acadian working prn, but I'm debating on whether to stay working part time or to quit.
  4. yeah might be a little expensive, but I need something. i have relatives that live in baton rouge, but they live kind of far away and I don't want to live with them for 2 years. They have grandkids and all that haha. So how old are you sailaway if you don't mind me asking. I saw westbank is 22. I'm 21. I read the normal age is usually a few years older.
  5. congratulations man. i'm guessing your from around new orleans. Yeah I looked at a place a couple of weeks ago and it was 1k for a one bedroom with no utilities paid. It was really nice though.
  6. Oh cool. I just got back from new orleans last weekend and plan on going again before we start school haha. I'm from Opelousas. I need to find a place to live that's close to the hospital. I was wondering if you knew of any places. If you do you can pm me please. Yes I am very excited. I expected that I wasn't going to get in so if I didn't I wouldn't be too upset haha.
  7. congratulations to you too sailaway! are you from baton rouge?
  8. Is anyone in this program or has anyone applied to it? I got my acceptance letter last week.
  9. I got a biventricular pacemaker in March 2006 for RBBB and heart failure. QRS was steady between 180-200 m/s. The rbbb is from many surgeries I've had. I was born with tetralogy of fallot with pulmonary atresia. Last checkup my doc said my heart looks 60-70% better. I'll have another checkup before the end of the year.
  10. do yall know what the gpa average is to get in or what did you have when you got in?
  11. The one I just applied to was an ASN program. I am thinking about applying to a diploma program for the spring.
  12. I got my rejection letter today. There was no explanation.
  13. I received my rejection letter today . There was no explanation for me. I've taken everything I can to get into clinicals at this school so I guess I will apply to other schools and then apply for clinical next spring hopefully.
  14. I figured a flight RN might, but I wasn't sure if the flight medic would do it instead. So the training for intubation is after school if your state allows RNs to intubate?
  15. Why aren't nurses trained to intubate? I know other health care professionals are there to do it, but I am just curious why nurses were never trained.
  16. I keep in touch with my doctor's nurse through e-mail. I also e-mail an old doctor every now and then.
  17. I have not gotten in yet. I'm applying for them. I won't know if I get in until August I believe. If I would happen to get into both i would choose nursing. I'm not sure if there is a waiting list or not. I'm just not sure my gpa will get me in next semester. If I get in to resp I'll be done next summer and could apply for nursing again next spring.
  18. hey everyone. i went pick up my application for clinicals today. i'm also thinking about applying for respiratory. i have a friend in that and she is applying also and said there was only 10 people applying. i'm really considering respiratory care. i think i have a better chance of getting in this than nursing next semester. i would be done next summer if i got in, but i think i would want to go back for nursing after. anyone ever thought about doing this or know someone who has? shawn
  19. Where I live, if your employed emt-b's are usually paired with a paramedic in the ambulance. There are no emt-i's in louisiana. They both go to the calls whether it be a transport or wreck or whatever else. I also thought about just doing the certified first responder, but I would like to make a little money while in school. The pay is horrible especially if it is your career.
  20. anyone became an emt while attending nursing school or while waiting to get into clinicals? i'm thinking about becoming an emt this summer to get some med experience for nursing and just to do it. i've always wanted to do it, but picked nursing as a career instead. i think it would help a little in some ways. shawn
  21. I was at my aunt's house at the timek, but I don't know all the details. It was all happening the weekend my cousin was graduating from nursing school.
  22. My aunt's neighbor was having some kind of vascular surgery and ended up having 2 heart attacks. Don't know all the details, but they ended up shocking him 20 times! He ended up dying a week or two later. Just wondering if someone has heard of anyone getting shocked that many times?
  23. Just how well they usually do and if they are a handful to take care of. I realize every patient and case of tetralogy is different, but in general. Does your unit see any teenage tofers?
  24. rnwithtof posted a topic in PICU, Pediatric
Hello everyone. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of experience have you had working with tetralogy patients, if any? Shawn
  25. i'm not circumcised, but sometimes I wish I was. i don't know if my parents elected not to or if it was because of my heart condition. I keep myself clean, but it seems like when it gets hot, the heat irritates the foreskin-and its aggravating.
