  1. I dont feel sorry for them... i know from personl experience what alcohol can do to a family...i also know how easy it would be to be to say poor pitiful me my life has been horrible, I'll drink & take drugs....thats one way to deal with the sh** the other way is to dig your way out & make a better life for your self You come to a fork in the road & you decide which way to go. I chose the path less traveled & had to work to clear my way but it has been worth it...Yes , I take care of the pt to the best of my abilities. but I dont feel sorry for theim
  2. my 2 favorite c/o # 1 " my privy parts is twinging" my response was "are you bragging or complaning? # 2 "when i drink beer i have to pee a lot ...duh..
  3. i have always (22yrs as anurse) mixed rocephen with lidocaine supposedly it hurts less
  4. all nurse have to be able to vent!! we take care of people in society that often no one else will. Unfortunatly, there is a population in our society that abuses the er system; they come in with every little c/o & expect to be seen & treated immediatly & they expect to be waited on by the nurses. From what Ive just read on this forum, that appears to be universal; even if you love your job & are dedicated, that gets frustrating; i think venting among fellow profesionals is healthy; it allows us to go on with our jobs & care for the pts.
  5. 1st born;father commited suicide; stepfather abusive alcoholic; have been a caregiver role my whole life as have most of the nurse i have known in 20 plus yrs of practice. ive had this discussion with others before, & i think there's a lot of validity to the theory
  6. are there any SANE's (sexual assault nurse examiners) out there? as a new sane, I would be interested in your thoughts on malpractice insurance. Also, how did you receive your sane training? There are 3 of us at my Er who went to the class, unfortunatly, since there have not been previously been sane's in our Er, we have been on our own. We have done well, setting up protocols, & have had a lot of support from the rape crisis ctr as well as hosp adm & our med director, but it has been stressfull. For the first time in 20plus yrs as a nurse, its like reading about a procedure & doing it without guidance. Since my background is in ob/gyn, I at least have experince with pelvic exams & that has helped. It would be helpful to hear from other SANE's.
