  1. Hi, I've been out about 16 years. Yes, the refresher was VERY helpful. I think a refresher should be required if one is going back to acute care. Nursing is like riding a bike lol. The body and it's systems do not change.
  2. Hi, I thought it was just me!!! I have just finished the RN refresher course in my area (ct)...And to tell you the truth I thought it would be "easy" to return to nursing. NOT. I have heard all along how we "need nurses" etc...The "hospitals are just waiting for you" This is what I have found...There is no place for an experienced RN!! We seem to be even less desirable than the new grad. When I was on a busy med/surg unit in a major teaching hospital during my clinical for the nurse refresher I knew it would take some time to "learn" all the new equipment and become familiar with the new meds. However, I felt very comfortable and ready to care for the pt's. I am very discouraged at this point. Where does the experienced nurse wanting to return to work fit in?
  3. Hi Babycatcher, I did not mention in my previous post that I am an RN returning to the work force after many years home with my children. I worked on a womens health unit. We had everything from high risk ob to post partum complications to gyn med/surg to fetal demise. I just finished a 5 month rn refresher course(the course included several weeks of clinical on med/surg unit). So I guess I'm like a new grad....but, not really. lol
  4. Thank you all for your replies!! I'm now in the process of getting my resume together...I thought with the "nursing shortage" it would be easy to find a job. Not true!!! I'm very discouraged. My specialty is woman's health...and I can't find a job! Any advice/input? Thanks!
  5. Hi Cast924! I'm an RN returning to the hospital setting very soon...I have a question. I was wondering how much a nurse working in your area(New Haven) can make hourly. If you don't feel comfortable responding...I certainly understand!! It's just that I have asked this question a few times before on these forums, and I really never get an answer. I know there are many variables...shift, unit, experience etc...but any info you have will be greatly appreciated!! Thank you:icon_smile:
  6. Hi everyone! I have been looking around this ct forum to see if I can find out just how much an RN can make...hospital, visiting nurse or Doctor's office? I have tried the salary.com site, but, can it be accurate??? Why is the pay soooo low? Any one out there work at Hartford Hospital, New Britain General or UCONN? I look forward to any input/advice. Thank you!
  7. Does anyone know the starting salary for Connecticut RN's? I worked for 3 years as a med/surg /womans health RN ...then "retired" to raise my kids. Fast forward 17 years...here I am trying to find a job. I've been told I have to take a refresher course which includes some clinical time (takes about 4 months), when completed I can then resume my career. Thankfully I have kept my license current!! So, are there really jobs here in Connecticut?
  8. :) :) thank you so much nurturingkneads! any help is greatly appreciated. julie
  9. Hi, I posted before about getting my BSN(at Central) In the mail today I recieved a postcard from St. Francis about an open house for nurses. The info included something about an "onsite RN to BSN program. Anyone have any information about this? Also, any nurses that work at SF? Thank you in advance for your help!
  10. Hi, I'm a registered nurse that has been home, raising my kids for the past 16 years. Yikes!!! I do want to return to work, but must take a refresher course first. Is anyone in a similar situation? My "dream" is to work in a fertility clinic...Uconn perhaps;)...or on a post partum unit. Thankfully my license is current!!! Any advise?
