Hi I am a fairly new nurse and a new OR Rn. The answer would be to inform them of the break, they might not have noticed that they broke the sterile field. Most won't be offended by informing them and even if they are, so what, its one of the jobs of circulater (and anyone in the room) to maintain the sterile field. It's all about the patient IMO they are the most important person in the room. You have a duty to inform people of breaks in sterility even if it means breaking everything down and resetting the room up. They shouldn't be cutting corners and contaminating the field with the patients outcome at stake. Just answer the question honestly. Frez :)

It is a 6 month orientation then you work solid days for a month after in case you have questions. Most of the people in my or are helpful and nice. I mean there are issues but you have issues anywhere you work. Plus we get two weeks of scrubbing in the last part of training. Although we dont scrub just circulate which is ok with me. Frez

I have to take call during orientation but it is with my preceptor. Its not bad because I am being trained in what is needed when called in adn what the procedures are. Frez

Hi I am a new RN in the OR. I am on the neuro/ent/eye team. It has been good, a bit overwhelming at times, but worth it. I am half way through my orientation. It is going well. I have a great preceptor who is patient and helps me learn. I realize I am lucky in that. I have worked at this hospital for several years as a certified sterilization tech. It feels natural to move to the OR. It does take a bit to get used to some surgeons(not all) attitudes but I am strong and I have dealt with worse. Frez

Ill add a story of my own to this. Two years ago my FIL went to an urgent care with incrreasing back pain thinking maybe kidney stone. They did a CT scan it showed small kidney stones and a large anuerysm. They sent him home with pain meds and told him to see his doctor within a week. Well come four am he was having increased pain in his back so he called the urgent care or er (not sure which one) and they told him to double his pain meds. In the morning my SIL decided to check on him around ten am and within twenty minutes he collapsed and SIL starts CPR and has his sons call 911. He makes to the ER stable but serious condition they operate right away. It turns out the Aneurysm is 6cms. What saved him was it burst posteriorly into the muscle and SIL doing CPR and quick actions of the ER, OR and paramedics. It was a long road to recovery with pnuemonia along the way and some jaundice but he survived. He is 62 now. He was lucky. Frez

its called assisstance needed at my hospital. They have been doing this for years. The article makes it sound like it just started 3 years ago. Security responds along with other staff members including housekeeping. They all have been trained in what to do in response Frez

I have a question maybe noone can answer but here goes How long is the wait between having the interview and hearing if you have the job? I had an interview 2 weeks ago and I was wondering if I should give up hope and move on so to speak. I did apply other places this week just in case. Frez

The instruments should be cleaned with a aseptisoak or detergent to remove all debris from them. You cant sterilize protien matter including blood or hair. The instruments should be cleaned as soon as possible to prevent the debris from drying on because they could ruin the instruments and make it more difficult to clean. If you are going to soak them you should use an enzymatic cleaner or prezyme to help remove the debris. I did not feel that stan as our sim man was called was a benificial experiance. As others said I had a hard time talking to stan I knew he wan't real and the stress of preparation and fear of looking stupid hindered any learning that could of happened. the voices that were supposed to come from the sim man came from the ceiling and I found myself talking to the seiling when responding. lol Plus nothing was ever in stock so you had to pretend everything including b/ps and temps. If it was more realistic maybe but in my mind I still knew it was a fake person. I did not mind practicing skills on the dummys or sim man that did help but the scenerios were uinbelievable and not really helpful in the end. I would of rather had more experiance in clinicals. Then again its just my opinion frez
