I threw all mine away after passing the NCLEX! I kept all my work- like careplans and projects, but threw away all the class powerpoints and notes- I can't imagine EVER looking at them again, and it was fun getting rid of all that stuff. I kept my nursing textbooks, but am considering selling those since anything I need to know I could probably just look up online :) I might just keep my nursing fundamentals and patho books though.

I just wanted to let you guys know I got a call this morning (they left a message) from Loma Linda. They didn't say in the message that they wanted me to come interview, but I assumed that's why they were calling. My first choice was Intermediate care. I actually got hired at another hospital, though, and am starting next week in Med/Onc. Too bad, I would have loved to start in Peds at Loma Linda! Just wanted to let you guys know that are still hoping for a call! Good luck!

I used to think it would be weird/awkward to give a thank-you letter in person after the interview, but the HR manager for the hospital I volunteered coached me a little before an interview and said that I should definitely write thank-you cards right after the interview and go right back in and give them to your interviewers in person. I wouldn't have had the guts to do that if she hadn't suggested I did, but that's what I did the next day and I got the job!! :)

Thanks! No, I graduated in December 2010 and have applied to TONS of jobs since then. I am pretty sure they have contacted everyone already since I know another person that got hired in Med/Surg, so both Med/Surg and Tele probably chose all their hires. Thanks!! I am SO excited and happy! I've applied to over 40 jobs and had 3 interviews total. I'm definitely taking the St. Vincent job since my only other prospect was with Planned Parenthood in Pasadena (still waiting to hear back after my interview 4 weeks ago), and I'd rather work at a hospital than a clinic. I also just started doing an internship (unpaid) at Citrus Valley Health Partners in West Covina 1 day a week, but it could be a while before I actually got interviewed or hired there. Sooo I'm definitely taking this job! And the pay is great, more than I expected. :) Have you heard back from anywhere yet??

I just got a call at 9 am this morning- I was offered a job on the Tele unit! :)

Haha Littleguccipiggy, I feel the same way! I will definitely be obsessively checking this forum. My heart leaps at every cellphone ring too, and I get so disappointed when an unknown number turns out to just be my college's alumni association asking for money, or a salesperson, haha. I guess we should get a call by the 10th if we are selected to interview, so sometime next week, ahhh!

Hi there, If you have a chance to do your preceptorship in OB, do it!!! If that's where you really want to work, the best chance you have at starting there right after graduation is to have your preceptorship in OB. I've been applying to tons of jobs after graduating in December and really want to start in peds or NICU and I think having my preceptorship in peds puts me ahead of other new grads wanting to start out in a peds specialty. Some new grad applications even say, preceptorship in NICU/L&D, whatever, preferred. So go for it! :)

According to the lady I spoke with, she said Intermediate care is like Acute, but "Spicier," lol. They get new diagnosis diabetes patients, sedation procedures, bronchoscopies, etc., and is just a step up from acute care with more nursing procedures. Sounds good to me! And I got that generic email too :)

Hey guys, I just got a call from Loma Linda- She just asked if I would like to apply to my second choice, Intermediate care since my first choice, Acute care, already had way too many applicants and they are only taking LOCAL applicants for acute care to narrow it down. I hope to get an interview!! :)

Hey everyone, just wanted to share my situation and see if anyone else had the same problem! I got a rejection email from Loma Linda on the 19th saying that my application was incomplete or I did not follow instructions. I was confused since I did exactly what the online app said to do. I thought maybe since I emailed the documents from a different email than I listed on my application, that was the problem. I called the RN residency phone number and she said to forward my original email (to stamayo) to cdpowell and explain what happened. I did, and called again today and was told the stamayo email I sent my application documents to originally was old and incorrect, which is weird since that was listed on the online application! So they checked my application status in the system and said that Mr. Powell had gotten my email and would consider my application. Did this happen to anyone else? The HR person said they got lots of applications to the "correct" email so it must have been listed somewhere. Ugh I'm just relieved I am still in the running, I was so sad after receiving that rejection email last week! Oh, and HR also told me applications would be sent to unit managers by about June 1st so we should hear back around that time.

Aww I'm so sorry you didn't get the position, I was excited for you that you had a second interview and thought you'd get it! I also got a rejection email today from the PICU but it must be 100 times worse for you since you got farther in the process and lost a lot of money too I guess it just wasn't meant to be, you'll find something better!

Hi, I just got a call from them today. He said they are calling 30 people, then picking 20 to interview and 6 to hire. How did your phone interview go?

No, I didn't get a call yet. I'm a little confused on the application process- on the online application it says to bring your resume w/ pic, 2 letters of rec, and the additional paragraph to the initial interview, but then says that interviews won't be granted without those documents. Did you upload those to the online application? Fountain Valley is my first choice too- I did my preceptorship there in the pediatric unit so I hope that helps! I have no idea what units are hiring for the new grad program though.

Congrats to both of you that got PICU 2nd interviews! I'm super bummed because I have not heard from them yet. Do you think they called everyone already for 2nd interviews?

Well I can't answer your questions about what HR is looking for and all that, but I can offer input since I was in the CSULB ELM program.. I actually quit after getting my BSN last December and decided not to go on to the Master's portion, after MUCH deliberation. I just wanted to work as an RN for a few years before getting an advanced degree and it's impossible to get a job as a new grad while in school. I think the ELM program is pretty good considering it's only had 4 groups so far, but I personally felt like it was a little disorganized at times. I loved about 2/3 of my teachers and hated 1/3 of them... A couple classes I learned absolutely nothing and were pointless. The pace of the program is very fast, but doable. If you want to become an NP, you should go to CSULB. They have many different NP options. I don't know if you get a BSN in UCLA's program, but I like that CSULB gives you a BSN too, unlike some entry-level master's programs. CSULB just got a new nursing building, which I have heard is very nice... It was finished right before I left so I never got to use it! I'm not sure how UCLA's program is, but since it's more expensive and a bigger school and attached to an amazing teaching hospital, I would assume it's better. If I had the choice, I would definitely go to UCLA! It will probably help you get a job at UCLA medical center since you will most likely do a lot of clinicals there. I haven't heard anything either, but I'm dying waiting! I was told in my interview that they would take about 2 weeks to figure it out, then they would call people back for a panel interview on the unit. I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything!

Yep, that was one question I made sure to ask since I wanted to know what my odds were! And considering they could possibly interview 24 people max in a day, sounds good! I'm from Torrance, like 30 min away. Where are you from? I bet they could make some kind of exception for you since you live far away..

Haha I agree it was sooo short! They asked me 4 questions then asked if I had any questions, which I had a lot, haha. I forgot to say a lot of stuff I had planned on saying, oops.. They said they were hiring 10 into the PICU, and I should hear back in about 2 weeks for a second interview, which would be a panel interview on the unit. So good luck to you, keep me updated too!
