  1. Maybe through a medical supply company and it is IV drip/gravity tubing........but if you are getting ready for nursing school, just enjoy the time you have off before you start.......you'll get what ya need when the right time comes!!!:loveya:
  2. 4 am in the morning here...........found this posting on a short break......THANK YOU SO MUCH for reminding me why I am an ER nurse............posted this on our nurses station whiteboard and everyone loves it!!!!!!!!
  3. Just a technique that helped when I first got started......if you have access and your employer doesn't mind, use drip tubing, foam tape and betadine/water in a syringe.......tape the drip tube to a mayo stand covering tubing with foam tape.......gives a great "vein" have someone else put betadine/water in tubing and start an IV in the tube.......gives you a feel for veins and flashes like blood in the IV needle chamber........sounds silly but works until you get a feel for the equipment!!!!!!! Hope this helps
  4. Hear, hear and AMEN to that!!!!
  5. We were just given the "word" at our ER that this mandatory hourly rounding was a big "STATE" issue and it would now be required. Well, the only thing I can say about all that is "sure, whatever you say". I work in a small rural ER with 2 RN's staffed and if we have 2 codes, a psych and ambulance coming in hot probably airway compromise I am sorry if you have a runny nose; splinter in your finger or "god forbid" an ABSCESS, you are NOT high on the totem pole of priorities. I will be as nice as is possible in the circumstances but standing in the hallway for your prescription while we are doing chest compressions and preparing to ET someone else isn't gonna make that prescription appear faster. I think "hourly" ER rounding is way impractical especially in the above described scenario. Just my 2 cents, and I'm sure that's all its worth
  6. I graduated in May '08 too and found people throwing jobs at me.......I live 2 hours east of Dallas/Ft. Worth area and Texas nurses are a hot commodity in any specialty area you choose. Good Luck!
  7. With the nursing shortage in such the state that it is, a job change might actually be a suggestion, barring that I do use sleep medication and it absolutely does not affect me negatively, however I also have diagnosed insomnia so it takes alot to put me out........I am a nightshift nurse but often flip flop secondary to shortage of staff to change from day to night I work my dayshift 7a-7p then go home and stay awake until I am literally slobbering on myself and then sleep as long as possible, same when I switch from night back to day 7p-7a, but this is very taxing on the body..........hope this helps!
  8. 1. pitocin commonly referred to as "Pit" is used for labor induction and cervical ripening 2. methergine used for refractory postpartum uterine bleeding 3. carboprost used for same as above 4. RhoGAM used in cases where mother is Rh negative and baby is Rh positive, often this is given prior to birth visit if there is question about Rh of baby in a negative mother 5. brethine is used to prevent preterm labor 6. and AAAAhhh "yes" Stadol, Nubain, Demerol and various other medications for pain depending on clinical picture of patient............ Good Luck, have lots of fun and hope ya get to see some babies--------awesome experience!
  9. Does anyone have any information about the new requirement for Texas nursing student graduates to take the Nurse Practice Act Test that is supposed to be required for students beginning Fall 2008? I have also heard a rumor that if you have not graduated by April 2008 that this test will be required along with NCLEX................any help would be appreciated.
  10. Thanks you guys...I really appreciate the help....found some of what I need !!
  11. Great, thanks so much....I believe we do have access to Blackboard in our tutorial program from the library
  12. Thanks so very much for your time. I also saw the "D" contracture with some of the other stuff I was looking at. The problem with the library idea is that I live in a very small Texas town and our community college has very little of nothing especially related to anything medical or nursing, some silly videos made in the early 70's. I've tried to see if it was possible to use the hospital library but it is only available to recognized staff, not students. Our Med/Surg books only cover basic procedures not the greater detailed often less performed ones. Yes, I realized I spelled "palmar" wrong and felt like a goofball because I couldn't edit once posted.:monkeydance: Anyways, I sincerely thank you for your help !!!!
  13. I'm a freshman ADN student nurse and am working on case studies and surgical procedures. I need a good site to find information explaining procedures to include with my clinical paperwork. I usually type in the surgical procedure into my google bar but have been getting some really weird stuff....either way over my head descriptions that are more geared towards docs or stuff that we aren't allowed to use b/c of the particular site which we must cite in our works. Does anyone know a good place to get surgery procedures from ??? Preferably and edu or org URL as we are allowed to use them..............looking for subtotal palmer fasciectomy currently.......thanks in advance bunches !!!!
