Neuroendocrine just refers to the glands in your brain that produce or secrete or control the distribution of various hormones and neurotransmitters specifically related to the endocrine system. One obvious example is hyper or hypothyroidism. But it can also relate to sex hormones affecting eating behaviors or how environmental toxins can harm the endocrine system. I don't know if there are any available positions in this area for an NP. I don't know how to find out either. I think that endocrinology is fairly broad, but I understand what you mean. I've worked in med/surg and stepdown units in the cardiac and thoracic departments. I ended up in these places simply because that's where the road led me, that's where there were available positions. But I'd really like to have a nursing career that fits me ... so I would relocate and I would wait, assuming that it's not a hopeless case.

Does anyone have any info about neuro NPs? Or neuroendocrine NPs? I've never actually working on a neuro floor, but I studied it in school and still feel like that's what I'm most interested in. I want to go back to school and get my masters with the goal of working with neuroendocrine outpatients. Is that even possible?

Hi, I'm an RN with a bachelors degree interested in continuing my education. I want to go back to school for a masters but am having difficulty finding information on my specific interests. Ideally, I'd like to have a neuroendocrine focus. But I don't know if that is better suited by becoming an NP or CNS. Any suggestions or recommendations? Also, I'm not sure which specialty I should choose for my masters ... adult/family/acute? My guess is that the adult specialty would most accomodate me after I graduate and start looking for neuroendocrine-related positions. I'd like to be a researcher and clinician. So what education path should I choose?

Hi all, I took the Kaplan NCLEX review, too. It's been 2 weeks and, even though I did okay on my readiness test, my Qbank scores have been getting progressively worse with each passing day. I'm taking the NCLEX this Friday and and really starting to doubt myself. I think the problem is that I'm over-using Kaplan's strategy (using it in situations when it doesn't apply). So I figure, with two days left before the big exam, I should just lay off the practice questions, and just focus on reviewing some simple stuff like lab values and definitions. Any advise??

Hello all! I was recently told about this thread and am so glad that there's a way for accepted ETP students to interact! Right now housing is my biggest concern. I'm from MA and have been waitlisted for on-campus housing. For others who are in a similar situation, I strongly recommend contacting the main Columbia housing department. They can send you a list of commonly used brokers and real estate companies, and can add you to a mailing list for recent listings. Also, for safety reasons, they recommended NOT looking at listings that are west of Broadway or below 164th St. Anything farther up is okay. So basically, if anyone is also looking for an apartment and needs to find roommates, we should chat. :typing
