  1. The one part of becoming a nurse that I am concerned about is spending a lot of time on my feet. I can handle working the 12 hours; I have before in different jobs - but on my feet?!? My feet are aching at the thought of it. I just need a realistic expectation of what I am in for. What percentage of time do you spend on your feet and in what area of nursing are you in? Thanks!
  2. Wow - I though I was the only one waiting for my Fall 2008 . . . I can't wait to apply!!! I really hope to get in first time round as well. Hope everyone else does too. Then we can all celebrate together!
  3. I decided to start my nursing journey a few months ago and am just starting to look at nursing schools and find a place to do my pre-regs. Then DH comes along and tells me he is planning on returning to school too!!!! And he is reluctant to consider both of us being in school at the same time. He says we can only afford to have one of us go and since I am the one with the job (he has been searching for over a year with no avail) I will have to keep it to support us. He is the one who logically should go back then. He wants to get his master's degree. To complicate it all, he is visually impaired and that hinders his job options. So he does have to have lots of education for an employer to really consider hiring him worth it. I am completely devoted to my husband, and want to see him succeed and not have any regrets of what he "should have done". But I so want to be a nurse . . . and I don't want to have to wait three or so years for him to finish. That is about when have planned to start our family, so it would be babies and school at the same time, and, while doable, stressful. Aggghhh! What should I do? Hope deferred makes the heart sick.
  4. If you can find an affordable, peaceful place, close to work and school, then move. Sometimes living free with family can cost more than paying rent, if you know what I mean.
  5. Hurrah! Way to go! :smiley_aa Can't wait to join you! It would be great to finally quit my current job!
  6. That is my situation almost exactly. I am going to school to become a RN to get out of my 40,000/year dead end desk job. I have done quite a bit of research and it seem like both the $$ and the opportunities are much better in nursing than in business. And the schedule seems much more conductive to raising a family, which I hope to do in a couple of years. However, you do have to face the 12 hr shifts and the high probability of working nights for a while. Do a couple online job searches in your area to see if there are jobs you'd be interested in.
  7. Sociology and Physc Human Lifespan this Summer 2007. Since my ABSN school doesn't start until Summer 2008, I can "take it easy" and do my prerequisites part-time/2 per semester for three semesters. Well, I am working full time too, but it is just a desk job.
  8. All right, I am in, albeit reluctantly. I know I need to lose, but hate the disapline I need to do it. Farewell sweet donuts! Hello veggies and fruit!
