  1. Because, you are gaurenteed more latitude in the market the more experience you have. The surgicenter I went to only hired me because I already had experience in the OR over the other people who were applying for the same position. If you are lucky to get a job in a small clinic and you have never been to a big OR you are missing out on alot of learning.
  2. TES is looking really good about now compared with all the other institutes prerequisites. How are you liking it Mona? How far along are you ? Is it true you need a procter for tests? Your not allowed to take your tests online? How about clinicals? I was trying to find out when fall semester starts for this school but couldnt find any dates. Also I was wondering if you are forced to do the group thing online?
  3. Did this University require a pretest for nurses? I read it in their curriculam. If you took it what was the test like ( the Nclex?) . I think they are the only University I saw so far requesting that.
  4. This was one of the Universities I was thinking about but there are several extra prerequsites they want you to take ~ ie ~ Pathophysiology, Statistics, Wyoming Government. However, they are the most resonable in fees. Isn't their schedule for classes set up so that you *have* to finish everything in one year? Meaning you have to take two nursing classes at a time?
  5. Some of the things these online colleges request is a bit bizarre and ridiculous.. For example South Alabama wants you to pass a drug screen as a requirement for enrollment HA! ..
  6. Ive worked in several hospitals in their main ORs. Some large and some half the size. I quit working for 2 and a half years because of the amazing stress not because of the cases but because of the staff. Whats written above is correct. Larger hospitals tend to be less cohesive, lots of back biting, many territorial issues and people getting away with alot more attitude. I came back to OR Nursing because I really missed it but decided I wanted to be in an OR where theres no call, no weekends and no nights. So I picked a smaller setting. One OR specialty clinic. So far I love it. People are more team oriented pleasent. The docters are more pleasent. Coming from a larger OR its interesting because the surgi centers are a cake walk in comparison. I would never recommend a fresh grad to go into a small OR first. You'll be stunt your growth . But going from large to small is definately the way to go at least for me.
  7. How many nurses died in the field so far I wonder?
  8. Thats Okay WtB. I guess Im not so savy with the tools of this forum. I just had a question but i got my answer through a website so its okay. Thank you for responding letting me know you didnt get it . Maybe next time i can figure out how to do this PM buisness when i have another question :)
  9. wtb. Thank you for your replys. Youv'e been helpful. I sent you a pm by the way.
  10. ps.thank you Jazzy for your response. :)
  11. I was off for two years because of an injury from the job then I ended up with depression which prolonged my hiatus. But now Im feeling better and want to get my life back on track and I miss the OR. I don't want to go back to floor nursing. I was enlisted in the Navy from 86-90 in a Helo-Sqaudron then reserves for 6 months, so i definatly did a day over 4. What does E-pay mean, does it matter what branch you were in?. Im 39 right now. Is it too late? I've read so many contradictory things. Im looking for a part time job currently and I'd love part-time in a surgi-center however it's rather tough out here being that I have been out of circulation for 2 years. So I thought maybe I better just buckle down and finish a 1 year online BSN course and see if I can go into the service from there. ( Preferably the Airforce because I've always wanted to be in the Airforce even when I was in the Navy.) Im just wondering how realistic the idea is. If the Airforce would accept someone with my situation, or the fact that I haven't worked in 2 years and had a bout with depression would totally exclude me from being acceptable. What is Captain in the Airforce O-3?
  12. Im interested in the USAF. I have had 4 years active enlisted. Got my RN after getting out and then spent 8 years working as an RN. Most of that time was spent as an OR nurse (5 years). Then I had taken the past 2 years off. Now Im planning to take an online course to get my BSN. Im wondering what the chances are of getting back into the OR if i go into the Airforce..or, because I havent worked in the past two years (but kept my RN license active) that the time lapse will hurt my chances? How hard will it be to get accepted into the officers program if i get my BSN online from an accredited school? And last question, does the Airforce have a sign on bonus?
  13. rncali replied to rncali's topic in Home Health
wow cali, may I ask what state that happened to you in and do you still work in home health , if so why. thank you everyone for answering my post. I haven't been hired yet but applied and had an interview. Im just a little worried about the potential hazards that could be involved. I guess Im a worrier. I was working in a hospital in the OR for several years and had been off for two. Now Im trying to find something thats more lowkeyed , less stressful and have more freedom. I like the idea of making ones own schedule. I also want to get back to the roots of patient care as all my patients were basically asleep in the past lol..
  14. thank you for your replys. It did makeme feel hopeful again and I am back to thinking positive. I would love a chance to learn about homehealth and hoping this agency will take a chance on me. I have been a nurse for 10 years but mostly OR experience. I had only 1 year as a new grad of floor nursing.
  15. hi, I just had my interview this past friday and was told they usually have 2 interviews for each person. The first was to see if your right for the agency basically and the second to hammer out negotiations. They told me they would call me by the end of next week.. Now, after reading your post, Im second guessing my interview last friday. Im thinking that Im pretty clueless over here and I better start sending out some more resumes. I mean why should it take them an entire week to decide to hire me. Thats just a nice way of being told "sorry, your not right for this agency"... ~ slowly deflating~
