University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program
I received my acceptance letter from UofM for the accelerated program the end of January. I submitted my application August 14th. I received my acceptance letter from MSU for there accelerated program the end if November (Thanksgiving time). I submitted my application to them by October 1st. My GPA was a 3.4. Just looking at my prerequisites for both schools it was higher between a 3.5 and a 4.0 somewhere. Good luck!

Yes, I know of one person who was accepted off the waitlist. She heard in mid-May back from them. I think they told her there were 5 others attending the late orientation session with her. Good luck!

U of D Mercy Accelerated Second Degree
I had to pick either UofM's accelerated or MSU' after I said no to UofD. I finally chose UofM for their reputation and that my boyfriend would be in Ann Arbor also. MSU had said no to me 3 times for their traditional program so it was nice to tell them no for once. Also I did not want to live in Detroit. Good luck.

U of D Mercy Accelerated Second Degree
I was accepted there with a 3.4 GPA from MSU with a B.S in Psychology. I did not have all course work finished when I was accepted either. I have no comment on the program because I chose to attend else where. Good luck!

University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program
I really do not know what or if they have a cut off. I think it is a good thing however that you have been increasing it. I know that really helped me that I was able to say each semester I have been able to increase my GPA. I also explained in my essay of why my course work was not has high as I would like it during the period of time when it was low. Good luck!

University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program
Spend a lot of time writing some good essays. If they do rolling admissions again get you application in as soon as it opens. I did not have a high undergrad GPA (3.4), but it did not seem as important as the nursing prerequisite classes. Good luck, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Is anyone currently attending MSU and applying to different schools??
Yes, I had taken Pharmacology (350) before I applied to the accelerated program. I have not taken BMB 200 yet, I will do this the second half of the summer and it does transfer to UofM and UofD. Look at their website and it will show the classes you need and the transfer guide will will tell you what courses transfer from what schools. For UofM if the course is not listed they have it set up where you send in a transfer guide and they will tell if it transfers. You will need to do this before you apply anyway for courses not listed on their website. Good luck

Michigan State vs. University of Michigan?
jasmine, try to get your gpa up as far as you can. i got mine to a 3.4 by the time i applied to the accelerated program, and it seemed to make a difference. for uofm the biggest thing is to apply right in august when the application opens. i know you don't have to hand it in until november, but the earlier the better if they do rolling admissions again! also i feel like uofm really looked at the essay questions a lot, so spend a lot of time on those. for msu i really don’t know what changed. i was denied to the traditional program 3 times and then was accepted into the accelerated program. my gpa was a little higher for the accelerated (from 3.3 to 3.4). i spent a lot of time on my essay for that one as well, make yourself stand out and show your passion. also for msu i had some really good letters of recommendation (however, one was the same as the last two applications). i had some volunteer experience for both applications (not a lot just a few days at two different hospitals). i think that because i had applied three times before and really made it clear that nursing is what i want to do might have made a difference. i also applied to the university of detroit mercy and got accepted. however, they seemed really unorganized and i did not want to go to detroit. it was also a lot more expensive there than any where else because they are private. good luck! cassey

University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program
No, for 2009 they did not open up the application until August. So if they do the same rollling admissions they will open up the application in August and then you can submit it anytime after it open until November. However, the ealier the better because of the rolling admissions. They told us at a preview day for fall of 2009 that next year they will be accepting even more application than this year (64) and I think they said 72 for next year. Good luck.

University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program
Apply early and spend a lot of time writing your essays! I think they look most at the science prereqs. so try to do as well as you can in those. The earlier the better, like the first few weeks of when the application opens in August. Good luck!

Northern Michigan University
For sure get a winter Jacket, boots are good but if you are walking you don't need really big heavy ones. Also do your clothes shoping before you come, because it is very limited as far as good stores go. It is really a great place.

I don't go to the nursing program, but I grew up close to marquette. If you are used to a city, marquette may be the biggest city in the U.P, but some expereience a little culture shock. It is a great place to live with many and beautiful places to see. The lake is right there and there are many outdoor activities to experience. I love the U.P, but be prepared for a different culture than many other places offer. I have heard that many do like the nursing program, but they are not happy with the amount of clinical hours they are getting and Marquette Gerneal seems a little behind times with the technology in the hospital and staff. Good luck to you!

University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program
I received my acceptance letter in the mail in January. I also was notified on wolverine access, but I had not checked it in a long time. So I found out from a large Michigan envelope though the mail. It came to my current address and not my permanent address.

Michigan state university traditional nursing program!!!please give advice
My final decision to go to Michigan over State was based on having the UofM hospital right there and I felt like I would get more of an opportunity to see more. Also my boyfriend is in the Ann Arbor area for the next few years so I thought I might get more connection if I went to school there to get a job there in the future. Looking at some rankings I found Michigan’s programmed was ranked 5 compared to States which was 46. I was also tired of dealing with State and not getting into the traditional program 3 times, so I felt like I needed a new atmosphere. I think they both are going to provide their students with a very good education. I have heard nothing bad about the education at either program. Good luck.

Michigan state university traditional nursing program!!!please give advice
the last time i applied i had a 3.4 so it was a lot lower than your. i think with a 3.8 you have a lot better chance than i did. i found that they really really only look at gpa and don't consider much else. they would never say so but i think they pretty much took the top 50 students. i could see this because i would e-mail and ask what the average gpa was and the cut off gpa was for those admitted and not admitted and how many applied. usually the average was a 3.7 and the cut off was a 3.4. yes, they take your science courses seperate and look at just your science gpa for part of the application process. good luck! cassey

Michigan state university traditional nursing program!!!please give advice
I applied 3 times while at MSU and never got in. However, your GPA is higher than mine was. They told me the last time I applied (spring 08) that the average was 3.7. Each time I applied the GPA went up a little. I believe around 150-200 people applied. I also had volunteering and good letters of recommendation. My grades in biology and chemistry brought my GPA down. I did well in anatomy, physiology, and patho. They say they look at those more…but not sure. I found it very difficult to actually talk with advisors that were honest about my chances. I do not want to scare you away and I wish you all the luck in the world. What is meant to be will. I finally did get accepted into their second career program for the spring. However, I believe that I will be attending UofMs program in the fall. Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions. Letters usually came some where between finals week and two weeks after.

Northern Michigan University
i am from a town close to marquette. i have talked with a few advisors before i got accepted into msu and uofm’s programs. as far as the u.p goes it is a pretty good place to go because of the hospital right there compared to other schools. however, my cousin is in her third year of the program right now and she is not 100% happy. she feels a little like she is not learning everything she could be someplace else. she does not feel all of her professors are teaching her what she needs to know. if you are really interested in knowing more about the program private message me and i can give you her e-mail so you can ask her some questions.

Housing in Ann Arbor for Accelerated Second degree Student
I am really not sure. Going into it I was thinking things were cheaper than they are, so now I am willing to pay more than before. If I really LOVE something I would be okay with $750 range. However, I hope to find something more in the $600 range. I am looking on craiglist now for possible roomates to share something with. Thanks!
