The Circumcision Discussion
I have 3 boys and all were circ'd.. my brother in law wasnt and tells me everyday he wishes he was. I think the decision should be left up to mom and dad. As far as the pain, EMLA cream used 1 hour before the procedure seems to keep the child in lil to no pain. I have seen babies sleep through it. I think this is the way to go. But then again, I am a woman and would have no idea.

Why are RN's so fat!
I am not "Obese" but I am no where near skinny either. I just finished RN school and while in school 5 days a week and working full time with 3 boys to take care of I gained around 30lbs in 2 1/2 years. I dont blame it on anything except time constraint. I wasnt laying around, who had time, but I also didnt have time to exercise regularly or cook the way I know I should be. I agree that we are trying to take care of everyone else and we seem to let ourselves come last. In a way it makes us a better nurse but it doesnt do alot for our figure. Oh well I am active, loved and have a good career ahead of me. I dont think I am going to let my figure determine what I or anyone else should think of me.

I dont know how it would work in Missouri but she may check into junior colleges that provide nursing degrees or even talk with a local hospital official who may have answers for her. GOOD LUCK

HELP! I DON"T WANT TO GO THROUGH CNA first...
In the beginning I thought along the same lines you did in that I never got my CNA certification before starting LPN school. I thought, I will get my RN and never have to clean up poop......Boy was I wrong, but like alot of others have said, it is not as bad as you are envisioning it to be. When I started LPN school we did our stint in LTC and I fell in love with the people I got to see twice a week. After getting my LPN and while going to school for my RN I worked part time in a nursing home. The elderly I got the privilage to take care of there helped me become a better nurse. You get passed the smell you think will "kill" you and the mess and see the wonderful person with the great stories that you cant wait to talk to again. Or use it as an opportunity to visualize your patients skin while you talk about something else and get your job done. Making them feel so much more comfortable in a very uncomfortable situation. The people you will get a privilage to take care of and "change" will touch your life forever. Dont give up on being a nurse but realize that that "duty" is such a small part of being any NURSE that it will end up feeling the same as making a bed. Just another task you need to do.

LPN or RN? need advice
As someone that was in the position you are in I just want to say to have gotten this far is a large step. I am a single mom and just went blindly into nursing school with no healthcare knowledge before hand. I went straight through and I remember thinking after lpn school "Am I sure I need to be an RN." Well I made it through and can say yes, you will find RN school a lil more stressful but overall if you made it through lpn school RN will fly by. DONT GIVE UP! It sounds like you have been very determined to have gotten this far and that is exactly what makes a great nurse. If you need to work or want to work as an LPN then maybe check out Nursing Homes in your area because they utilize lpn's more than the hospital setting does. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Are any new grads going to med-surg
I have thought about it alot and would prefer to work on a medsurg floor first I think but I am overly anxious to get hired in a hospital and if the ICU job pans out I will take it. I have student loans getting ready to have to be paid and I really need the money. I will let you all know what I choose. Thanks again!

Are any new grads going to med-surg
I am having the same problem. I just passed my boards and have interviewed for both med/surg and ob. I have an interview in a few days for an ICU position. I am terrified that I may not be ready to work in a speciality fresh out of RN school. I have worked in a nursing home for over 6 months now and i'm afraid I didnt get any experience I needed as an LPN to help with my RN career. I need all the advice I can get.
