  1. Thanks for the advice mneumonic. I got into the program for the fall. I am taking Nutrition over the summer...wahoo...a summer class. I have Scholossbach for Nutrition and for Nursing I. I will be done with everything so I can concentrate on nursing. One problem, I have to be full time in order to stay insured under my parent's. I have no idea what I am going to take along with Nursing I. I am hoping I can take a class toward my BSN with Kean, but who knows....for those of you who are still waiting to get in.... Listen to mneumonic.... Don't attempt A&P with Nursing....that class is hard enough by itself! Submit several letters of intent....believe me they do get lost. Go into the Admissions office and ask them what your status is RE: Nursing wait list...keep up on them. Become friendly with people already in the program...they know what you are going through and have been through it themselves... Good Luck!
  2. My letter came in the mail yesterday! My friend called me on the cell phone on my way home from school to tell me that she got her letter. I couldn't get home fast enough! I was soooooooooooo happy and surprised because the school said they were sending them out Thursday, but we got them on Thursday. Wow...I have so much left to do, but I am extremely excited. Is anyone else starting at OCC in NJ this Fall? I think I am still in shock!... I am also graduating with my AS-Gen. Studies- Social Science :mortarboard: Its also going to be a great summer because I am not taking any summer classes and I turn 21 in August. I can't wait to enjoy the relaxation before the "nuttiness" of Nursing school starts. Can anyone suggest any "brushing up" I should do before I start. Even though I am not doing any summer classes, I still don't want my brain to turn to "mush" by the time Sept. comes around.
  3. LPN/ AS-RN/ BSN? Is anyone else contemplating these programs? I am at my local community college right now and I finished all my pre-reqs for the AS- RN program. I am waiting to hear this month about whether or not I got in for this Fall semester. They send out the first batch of 90 letters according to your date of completion this month. I have been hearing some buzz about how most people wait 1-2 years after finishing their pre-reqs to get into the program. I applied to LPN school and I did get in for this September. My community college has a partnership with a local university so that you can complete your BSN at the community college. I have only 5 more classes (not including nursing) to finish. My options are the following: 1) While waiting for my letter from my community college I can continue to take courses toward my BSN. The advantage of this is I can get as many bachelor's pre-reqs out of the way so that when I finish my AS-RN I will only have a few classes to take to finish up with my BSN. The university partnership requires you to have your RN license before completing some of the bachelor's courses. 2) I can go to LPN school this September and finish September of 2008. The perks to this option is that I can start working as an LPN, get some experience, save up some money, get some benefits, maybe even get my employer to pay for my schooling to go back to get my RN. 3) I applied to a entry-level Four year BSN program, but I was not accepted because the college averages your cum. gpa from all the institutions you attended. Unfortunately my last semeser of my freshman year of college I did not do so hot so my cum gpa from there averaged with my current gpa comes out to only be a 2.7. Fortunately for me, the university that has a partnership with my community college does not do that. They only take my gpa from the community college I am attending. 4) I have enough credits to get my AS-General Studies- Social Science this May. Wahoo....but I have no idea what I can do with that because what I really wanna do is nursing. The advantage to this is that if I want to transfer to another school in state I can do so without losing credits because the school will take my degree in-tact. I have been toying with these options for quite some time. I know that people keep telling me not to worry and that it will all work out, but everytime an option comes doors seems to slowly drift closed. I am just trying to figure out what do to. Any advice is appreciated.:typing
  4. Count me in too! I have my first test tomorrow! Good luck everyone! Does anyone else find lab fascinating? We did cultures of the Basement button on an elevator...believe me you don't wanna touch it!
  5. I am FIGHTING to get into their program. I have a date of completion 12/06. I have also gotten into LPN school for the fall and applied to Stockton college for their entry-level BSN program. Pug... was right, they do need to revamp their program. I have spoken to the Dean of the nursing program to get the answers to my questions about the rumors of how you get into the program and such. They change their minds all the time. Things are always changing. I did also speak to the Dean of Health there and he is a very nice guy to deal with. I am not in the program, but I have friends who are in the ODPW program and just started in January. They said its a very tough program and they are pretty nasty to you when you go into the office to ask them questions about the program. They seem to be very unprofessional and nasty whenever you call or go in person to get information or updates on their program. Part of me doesn't even want to get into their program because of how nasty they are. I think they know that for Ocean County, as far as Associate's Nursing programs they are the only option and they know that. They are like a monopoly of sorts and it makes me sick! We pay their salaries so that we can get treated like dirt and they can throw us around. If there is one thing I have learned its that you must be your own advocate especially if you want to be a nursing student at OCC. Sorry for the rant and rave...I am just curious to see how many other people have had a similar experience.
  6. I have applied to OCVTS to their LPN program. I have been accepted and may be attending this September. I am at OCC right now and I am finished with my pre-reqs for them. With the Kean partnership I only have 2 more pre-reqs to finish for the Bachelors so that all I would need to take are nursing classes. I applied to Stockton College as well because they just started an enry level BSN program. I was just wondering if anyone else was at OCC just waiting to get into the nursing program. What is your date of completion and how long have you been waiting to get in? I also need some advice. Since I have a couple of doors open for me, which option would you recommend to me given your own past experiences. If I go to LPN school it would only take me 1 year and I could still remain on the list for OCC until they send me a letter accepting me into their program. If I go to Stockton its going to take me 4 more years from September to complete my degree. I have enough credits to get my AS-Gen studies-Social Science degree from OCC this Spring so that if I go to Stockton they will take my entire degree. If I get accepted into OCC's program this September then that would be great because I could graduate in two years and then transition into Kean's program and all I would have to do is complete the nursing classes. The advantage to going to LPN school is that I have already been accepted and I know for sure that I can start school this September. I can also be working and make sure that I am going to like nursing, gain some experience, get some benefits, and save some money (instead of just taking college classes and not gaining any experience). I am interested in hearing what all of you think.
  7. Can I just say...thank-you to the NICU nurses. Thank you for your dedication and caring. I would not be alive today if it weren't for people like you. I have been inspired to pursue nursing because someday I want to give babies the chance at life that I was given. I was born in 1986 at Stratford hospital. I was three months early and weighed 1lb 12 oz. I also have a twin brother that weighed 2 lbs. 1oz. We both survived and are very lucky. Thank you again for all you do! I am pursuing nursing as a career and now I am just waiting to get into a nursing school in ocean county.
