  1. Sending ((((())))) and prayers!!!!You deserve a great big break. My best to you.
  2. Good point - i too do suffer from chronic depression. I was able to be off medications for 4 months, but unfortunately through no help from my clinical instructor, i am back on Prozac. But i dont recall any question of that nature being on my application for nursing school, only questions in medical relating to me being able to do the job.
  3. Really? You were instructed not to use the VG site? We were encouraged to use that site, and in fact, our book and our instructor told us that is the preferred im site - (the dorsogluteal however, is a different story because of the possibility of striking the sciatic nerve). We were shown all the sites and landmarks for IM, and SC. Also, from my understanding you should not use the deltoid site for injections containing > 1 mL. Well, im glad i can remember all this when im typing - i hope i remember in clinicals too!!! :smackingf
  4. Correction to my post - by "dumb" i didnt by any means imply that these safety rules are dumb, they are the basics that should be ingrained in us so we do them without even having to think about it - those are what i am afraid im going to blow because im so afraid im going to forget a step somewhere along the way.
  5. Hi Kylee (btw my daughter's name is Kaylie so i like you already :loveya: ) anyway, my first semester clinicals were not exactly a dream, so i am terrifed next semester i will blow every rule in the book - you know, the dumb ones - check id, check allergies, put guardrails up, ones that are automatic (not to mention blowing the 5 rights) i dont have any advise other than to know its normal and we are all together in this - for better or worse!! Just do your best and what you dont know, ask, look up, and be extra vigilant!!
  6. I dont feel too left out then - i just finished 1st semester and the only injections i have given were 2 SC Lovenox. But i was so nervous trying to dothe procedure correctly, i totally forgot about leaving the needle in for 10 seconds!!! But i will defiinitiley remember for next time.
  7. Good luck, break a leg (haha kidding) I will be praying for you!!!! You can do it!
  8. Oh sooooooooooo glad i found this!!!! I just finished 1st semester of an ADN program and its definitely got its low points!!! Lesson learned here? Lets just see if anyone has a good recipe for ROASTED CROW!!!!
  9. Question for everyone. First semester is winding down, our last day in clinical is May 21 then we are off until August 27th. My question is - barring having your own lab with mannequins, syringes, etc, etc, how do you keep from losing your skills when you have a long break? I welcome any and all suggestions - Thanks!!!
  10. Unfortunately, in my case my GPA (3.4) wasnt even a factor. My ADN program required only a 2.75 GPA for acceptance, however, once that was met the cumulative GPA was not taken into consideration for priority, but instead, entrance was based on a "lottery" system. As a result, I was on the waiting list for almost two years, as people with lower GPA's than mine were accepted. Oh well, what can you do right? :deadhorse
  11. Before I was a nursing student, I worked in the authorizationd department of a busy ortho clinic and had to review the dictations from the physicians in order to request procedures, etc. One note from one of my favorite docs stands out "the patient states she is extremely pleased with the results of her Rt knee arthroscopy. She has moderate to severe dementia". That was six years ago and I still laugh about it
  12. Thanks Wolf - that makes perfect sense!!!!
  13. hmmmmm I would be curious as to the answer myself. :yeahthat: Along the same lines, i have a friend who attended medical school in Mexico. She then returned to the US when she finished school but was unable to pass the medical boards. She lives in Miami and the last i heard was that she is working as a PA. Im not sure how this worked out but i find it interesting and am happy that she is able to put her skills and education to use.
