  1. I'm not too familiar with the CRNA hiring right now, but I do know that MTSA is where most of the Vandy people go for CRNA. The problem with that is MTSA runs an average class of 70, so this area tends to be a bit flooded with CRNA's at times. Granted, this is all just second hand info. Either way, I'm very happy with my experience here thus far. It' very evident that Vandy pours a lot of money and resources into it's residents.
  2. Not sure where the info is from, but I'm not seeing any cutbacks around here. It's probably the opposite to be honest.
  3. Good luck everyone. It's worth it...trust me. I was in the Summer 2010 critical care group.
  4. I just got accepted to the Adult Critical care track! Very excited! See you all in Nashville in July!
  5. The nice thing about this degree is that all the courses I need, save two, can be completed online. It would just be a matter of adding on those two classes this Fall and Spring. I will be able to finish the degree wherever I end up getting my first nursing job. If I decide to pursue my BSN first, I can put the BLS on hold as long as my credits don't expire (10 years I think). In writing this reply I seem to have answered my own question...
  6. I have a 3.8gpa at the moment. Academically, I know I can handle it, it's just whether or not the work will be worth the pay off.
  7. Hey all, I am graduating in May 2010 with my associates in nursing. I plan to get my BSN in a few years, but I have almost enough non-nursing credits to get a Bachelors in liberal studies. To get it, I would have to take about 6 more classes over the course of the next couple years (mostly online), two of which are pre-reqs for BSN programs. My question is would it benefit me to complete this degree in addition to my ASN and eventual BSN or do most hospitals and MSN programs only look at nursing degrees? I hope I was clear about the situation. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I think you misunderstood me, I realize that we do not "specialize" in nursing school. This class is to open our eyes to the opportunities available to us once we have graduated and have some experience under our belts. Thanks for the info though. Good stuff!

Hey all. I'm a nursing student at the moment and am taking one of the Intro to Nursing classes. Part of the course is researching a different area of nursing that we may be interested in working in one day, and presenting our findings to the class. Anyway, I decided to check out trauma nursing. I think I understand the basics of the job, but I was wondering if anyone could fill me in on a few of the things I can't find through reading an article. As a trauma nurse, are you solely in the trauma unit, or do you take regular ER patients? How long does a typical trauma patient actually stay in the trauma unit? What kind of experience is best for someone who wants to get into trauma nursing? ICU? What type of personality traits are common amongst trauma nurses? Thanks for any help you all can provide. I just want to offer an accurate picture of the typical (no such thing) day in the life of a trauma nurse to my class. If anyone has anything else they think is important that I did not ask, please let me know. Thanks all!
  11. Hey, thanks for the info. I'd love to stay as cheap as possible to help pay down my school debt asap, but I realize the area is expensive. If I could stay under $1000 I'd be happy, but I guess I will have to see if that is reasonable. I've heard nothing but good things about Vandy and the area. I look forward to it.
  12. Hey all, I am planning a move to Nashville soon and I need some suggestions on good places to look for an apartment or condo. I'd love to be within walking/biking distance of Vandy if possible. I'm all the way in northern Indiana, so it's difficult to get a good idea of the area. As far as price, cheaper the better, but not too ghetto. I'm single, so I just need a 1 bedroom place. Thanks!
  13. I am also an ADN student looking to fly one day. I haven't heard that either way is better, but I'm interested in seeing what the community says as well.
  14. Based on recent personal goals I have set, I'd also like to be at a healthy body weight for my height and be doing regular exercising.
  15. It's BSN for nursing
  16. Sounds like there are some really interesting goals here. Keep the discussion up, I'd like to hear some more!
  17. Hey guys, I figure someone here may have some info that can help me. I am a nursing student in Indiana. After I finish school, I want to work in Tennessee. One job I was interested in starts in June and I'm trying to figure out how I need to test for my license. Would it be easiest for me to just take the NCLEX in Tennessee or Indiana and transfer it? Can I even test in Tennessee as an Indiana resident? I am just confused about the best way to get a Tennessee license in a reasonable amount of time. Thanks for any help anyone may have.
  18. Very cool aspirations everyone!
  19. I'm facing a similar dilemma. I have to wear an all white uniform and I can't find pants that are not see-through. The best I have so far are aviator pants, but they are expensive. I'm hoping that by wearing white underwear and a tucked in white t shirt, I can minimize the amount of trauma my classmates must endure.
  20. Sounds interesting. I've never really looked into a burn unit.
  21. Being a big guy, I wear aviator scrubs. They have tons of cargo pockets, wallet pockets, even pen pockets on the shoulders. I find that there is plenty of room for me to carry my pens, tape, scissors, PDA, a small notebook, stethoscope, and whatever else ends up in there. (Once found scrabbled eggs in one cargo pocket. My peds patient thought I needed breakfast I guess.) The scrubs are expensive, but worth it in my opinion. They last a long time and are very durable. Check them out. http://www.aviatorscrubs.com/
  22. Haha, touche my friend. Perhaps "job you want upon graduation" would be more appropriate.
  23. Hey guys, just started the nursing program at my school. I'll finish up in the Spring of 2010. I got to thinking the other day about where I want to be in 10 years. For me, I'll be 34 and hopefully working in trauma, ICU, ER, or flight nursing. I'd also like to earn my BSN. Anyway, I thought it would be a fun question to pose to the other guys on here. So, where do you see yourself in 10 years?
