  1. you will be ok, just make a budget without depriving yourself of everything because it can also lead to depression sometimes. treat yourself once a week if you cant go for a big dinner go out for a pizza and make it a bill you pay every week. I call it the sanity bill . it gives you a little something to look forward to all week for working hard and budgeting so take that sanity bill and have a date night out with your bf once a week that's reasonable. then cut the corners with other stuff. trying to do all or none is not the best way, moderation with a priority may make it better. my daughter came out of nursing school after high school with the last year in a $30,000.00 loan and since she has married and had 2 children, paying off as able...at least she has a family now, a home , struggles within the norm as most with a young family & mortgage but she is 35 years old and could not put her entire life on hold either. many many others are with you. research ways to help you lessen the burden for yourself or you will give yourself worry ulcers. your status is not uncommon, do it in moderation with a priority and enjoy your life and your relationships...life is too short for worry induced ulcers, enjoy and good luck to you

  3. I am cpne eligible and only have lifespan to finish. the application process (just thinking about it) is exhausting. I agree with MegRT.
  4. I agree, you have to assess them first...ADPIE! then prioritize using maslow. airway, breathing, circulation, pain., etc. (think simple, lung sounds are? clear? resp rate, depth, (airway, breathing) and so on..
  5. once you get your emt, you can ask permission to ride 3rd with a paramedic unit. it will be on your time but that's what I did. I got to see a lot and when I finished paramedic school I ended up in a 911 shift in a busy city. it does depend where you work but I also worked the first year as an emt-b doing transfers which gave me time to learn and master basic assessment skills. you could also get a job in a hospital er as a tech --that might be better if you plan on moving into nursing.
  6. pick the school you want that's also convenient for you. take all your pre-reqs, sciences, etc., and get them out of the way. when finished, you will have a good chance for their RN program--you are a student with coursework; sciences,pre-reqs done. this will usually bring you to the top of the list. good luck.
  7. I just started up after stopping 3 years ago. Seems like istudy smart, chancellors, TCN are all ok. EC approves of istudysmart which has the workbook, cd or online versions. i've heard some use just the handbook for the medsurg, varcarolis/psych, and kozier fundamentals. I'm finding it a bit of a ch:bugeyes:llenge to pick it up again.
  8. I had to reply to this one! traveling to my final exam for my first semester of nursing school at a community college, my daughter was delivering my first grandchild! I'm 52 years old now, she's had a second baby and I'm still not done. Thanks to Excelsior I was able to transfer and take time out to help her as she was bedridden for a long time. Hopefully I will finish before I qualify for senior citizen discounts! The older you are, the more "life experience" you have
  9. Add me to the list....I started nursing school when my kids were grown (4 girls and 1 boy)......... and now???????????? Where the time went, I do not know...I am now a Gramma (my daughter went into labor and delivered the night before my first year nursing finals to boot) and I'm still here trying to motivate myself to finish. If that isn't the blues I don't know what is--please add grammy to the list! (i'm not giving up tho, I might die from old age but never giving up) lol
  10. Hi there, I'm also an ec student just about halfway through the concept exams. I haven't taken an exam in a long time but have recently started up again. I have only read good things about her notes on the different grps. There are several ec study grps on yahoo... you can find lots of notes in the "files" section. I hope this helps.
