There's a Mousetrap In My Med Cart
i love your article. i can relate to it. i'm a new night shift nurse & med pass is a struggle for me. i am responsible for 50 patients, half of them gets either a pill or glucose scan or both during the morning. it was my first day on the job and it took me more than 2 hours to do the med pass, i started 4.30am. one resident needed monitoring & i had a hard time to some GTubes. Some residents gets crushed pill/whole pill in apple sauce or pudding. And one resident would not take the pill because i am nice to her room mate while giving meds. to make the story short i had so many adjustments to make while doing the med pass. and the incoming nurse with a irritable look from her face told the other nurse that i should not be in charge during the shift, that i should start somewhere else because i am terrible. that she can not take it because i am so late. i didn't do my report with them yet at 7.15 because i am still struggling with the med pass. i really wanna cry but i need to move on to be finished. my hands are shaking because of the pressure that i feel from her but i need to make sure that i do my job with no error. i don't know if she intends to make it loud so i can hear it or its just her voice. i also hear her saying " oh no, she's only in room X." then ask me, "how many residents do you still need to do?" that adds up to the pressure that i want to let go. i really wanna cry that moment. i just told myself i need to be strong. until now i can't forget the look from her face & what she said. i just pray that my situation will get better. Thanks to your article. Now i know im not alone.

nursing grad who cant seem to pass boards
don't give up your hope. you have invested too much time, energy, etc. to give up now. try kaplan's nclex review, because it helped me pass my nclex and at the same time don't forget to PRAY.

How did you prepare for your Nclex -Rn
hi, i used kaplan & i also keep getting 50s% but passed the first time with 75 questions. my kaplan instructor told us don't be discouraged if you keep getting 50+% just continue to answer & use the strategies because kaplan question is much harder than the real nclex exam. she also told us to use the white board to slow down so we can think & concentrate to what the question is asking, because some of us tend to be rushing the question to finish or overcome the nervousness we feel.

Would like information about the NY Child Neglect/Abuse course/program?
you can take an online course for child neglect/abuse. just check BOn for the list of accredited providers. hope that helps.

can i take the NCLEX?
i don't think it would cause any problem, because NY doesn't require the NLE. So if you decided to take the NY NCLEX you better start off applying to CGFNS for a Credential Verification now then to NYSED. Check their website for further instructions & forms; you can download the application forms from the website. hope it helps.

can i take the NCLEX?
yes you can. Just check NJ BON to know the necessary requirements in taking the nclex rn exam. Im also from the philippines and didn't take the NLE before i went here but i was able to take the NY nclex rn exam last october '08. I applied to CGFNS for the CVS then applied to NYS Education Dept. for Licensure, it took about 6 months before i got my ATT. good luck to you.

need help here, i need your advice
to give you some history about myself, i graduated from bsn in the philippines in april 2007 and two weeks after that i went here to be with my husband that's why i have no healthcare experience beside the clinical rotations as a student. then after 4 months i got pregnant with our first baby :yeah:during that time i processed my papers to get the nclex rn but unfortunately the processing went too long , it took a year to be completed. i got my ATT by August and i scheduled my nclex exam on october '08 so i'd have the time to review because i am busy with my new baby and just got a job (not nursing related). luckily i passed, then i thought it's going to be easy to find a job becuase i now have the license. 4 months has passed and still can't find a job. i applied to almost every hospital/nursing homes here in long island & as well as to manhattan area just to get my feet wet. i had 2 interviews & it was promising, the asst. DON told me to be patient & need to wait a month because i need to file for civil service exam to determine my title & salary (that was jan). today i called because its almost a month next week, then he told me they don't have a position for me right now that i have to understand because of the budget cut of NY and they are still waiting for the GO signal from ALbany.:angryfire at first they should have at least gave a notice, right? so that i can move on. i am so disappointed because i thought its my chance, they took the requirements (copy of registration, license, physical, immunizations, etc..) but after 3 weeks they turned me down. the next interview i had was also promising, the assistant DON told me that she would definitely get me on board when the position becomes available this feb, because the next orientation is first week of march. i called to today to check the status of my application, then the HR told me that it depends to the director of nursing if they wanna hire me & they will contact me if that happens. so today i am so sad, i cried it out to let go the bad feeling. i feel guilty as well because i become irritable with my baby when she cried. what do you think should i do? do i need to take the rn refresher to be more marketable? i really don't know what to do right now. i plan to take professional skills workshop (wound care, resp. care, etc..), but would that help me? or should i take LPN board exam so i can apply as LPN just to get started as a nurse. i really wanted to be a nurse since i was a child. thanks in advance for your advice.
