Help! RN working first time in LTC
Hi QT RN, Recently, the LTC facility I work at did away with unit managers/charge nurses and divided the 44 res up between the nurses. However, prior to that the nurse manager was responsible for all the charting, incident reports, and rounding with the MD once a week. This wasnt a bad gig, but by having that extra nurse to take pts now each nurse has 22 and does the charting and incident reports for their res. The ADON or DON round with the MD. Good luck!

Family members that run the facility!
Iceyspots, How does your DON and Administrator approach this situation? When we have families this unreasonable the entire IDT has a conference with the family to discuss the issues; luckily our DON and Admin are on our side. There have been times where we said, maybe we are unable to meet your needs.. .other times we have flat out said, it is not fair to the other families and residents and suggested they provide a sitter... this usually helps them see the light. The other side of the coin is pinpointing why this res. is so needy, is her behavior a negative s/e to meds... some pts come back from acute care on multiple meds out of the same class and that can cause increased confusion and agitation. The important thing is that the staff be together on the concern before bringing the family to discuss it. Good luck.

Moving to GreenVille S.C
Interim does pay pretty well for homecare and per diem... Im at Woodruff Manor, it is an LTC for Alzheimer's Residents... this is the first LTC home I have worked at and I Love it. Most of our pts are "walkie-talkies" we only have 9 pressure ulcers out of 88 pts right now... I used to think Id never work LTC, but this place blew me away... friendly IDT, small town atmosphere, its awesome. I'm a MDS and Careplan Coordinator... we are always in need of LPNs... even if you'd like to do prn while youre in school. Im not certain on the rates, but if you're interested I can find out.

MDS Coordinator salaries
Hello, from your post I gather the MDS coordinator doesn't actually perform the assessments herself... is this normal? Thanks In Advance For You Input, AA

Role of Administrator and MDS
Hello all! This question may scream dumb-dumb, however, I've gotta know; is the MDS Coordinator responsible for the actual assessments? Clearly, other departments give input, but if you were responsible for MDS assessments on 90 patients, when would you have time to complile the data?
