Agencies and contracts -- revisited
but they do offer financial assistance for those who cannot afford to finance their own review and exams. as i said, this is in the form of a loan and to be guaranteed by your own co-maker/guarantor! you will have to pay back, pass or not! the interest is minimal and if you pass and eventually get to the states it will be basically up to you to make your payment scheme. fair enough. many of my colleagues have opted this route because there will be no way they can pay these review and exams on their own. as far as i'm concerned, even if i paid for my own, i am not under obligation with these agencies because i am under contract directly from my hospital and if you say otherwise, i am just going back to my province and plant and eat camote (sweet potatoes) and you are invited to visit!

Agencies and contracts -- revisited
To avoid this, why not call the Hospital directly and check if they sponsor these exams. I think the hospitals rarely, if ever, gives free exams anymore. Some agencies however do offer financial assistance in the form of a loan to finance these exams but you would have to pay back while you are already working in the US.

New Orleans Crime Rate?
thank you Itsy for the -reassuring words, btw, the hospital that i would be going to is located in the vicinity of west bank. i was also re-assured by our hospital directress that (except for a very few isolated areas) the places that we will be assigned to are relatively safe, including N.O. these issues will be taken up during our orientation. now listenin' to branford marsalis' 'rennaisance'

New Orleans Crime Rate?
Thanks ImbOOO and to every one. i'll try to consider the places that you mentioned.

New Orleans Crime Rate?
not very encouraging, huh? i guess it all boils down on how you make adjustments with your environment and avoid those places that you think you might be at risk. hell, no place on this earth is forever safe--from the most peaceful cities, there will still be a handful of unexpected crime that could occur. damn, i thought new orleans was about jazz, not crime! :chair: in the meantime, i better spin some terence blanchard cds to keep my mind off it.

New Orleans Crime Rate?
I am a Filipino nurse who is slated to work in one of the hospitals there in New Orleans. In the Philippine discussion group, Suzanne4 paints a very dim picture on what it is like working there and i quote her here: >>And please take the time to do some reading before signing any contracts. New Orleans right now has the highest crime rate in the US currently. That is the reason that the hospitals are going over to interview in the Philippines right now, they are unable to get enough Americans to go there to work. Safety should be your primary concern, especially if you are bringing a family over with you. You are going to be coming over to another country to work, and you will be an outsider in the beginning. Sorry, but gunfire at night is not my idea of fun. I am planning in bringing my wife and 2 small daughters and i'm a bit edgy about going to a place where their crime rate is high. Is this really the real picture out in New Orleans?

reviewing at pentagon for nle??
wanting to cheat and wanting to pass in an honest way are to different animals! Who in his right mind would say that they would like to cheat to pass??? hellooo??? i would venture they said that toungue in cheek! so the review centers will publicly announce the names of their reviewers who passed. so, would the employers who checked with the websites of these review centers (if they ever did) penalize and *ban* all those who did? are you forever going to admonish these review centers for the dishonest act they did with the june examinees, much more with those who are just trying to find an honest and legitimate way to prepare them with the exams? the present DOLE has now been monitoring these review centers and with the cooperation of the new revamp PRC are hot on their trails and strict check and balances are now in place. i am in no way connected with these review centers and i still believe that it should be the choice of those nurses where they would like to take up their review. Suzanne, i know that your knowledge is very invaluable here and i do not doubt your claims but you should back-up all those news that you have been reading by pasting the articles here or giving us the links to these websites to avoid the 'he said, she said, they said- syndrome' which only alarm and confuse the would be reviewer. i will also back up my claim that several US hospitals which recently did interviews in Manila accepted and gave job offers to a few june 2006 passers. i even have a list of those names. my 2 cents...

reviewing at pentagon for nle??
for crisse sake, go to pentagon if you think it will help you pass the nle in a fair and honest way! go to gapuz if you want to... ITS YOUR CHOICE! If you you were asked afterwards by employers what review center you went to, the answer is simple: YOU DIDN'T! no employer is going to check what review center you went to. i'm a bit surprised about the hollier than thou attitude some posters seem to spouse on this threads. you yourself will make that final decision! my 2 cents...
