  1. I know exactly how you feel and for the first year of my 10 years of nursing I finally came across MaryKay Satin Hands. It was a christmas present and wow its amazing! Also Vasline Intensive Healing Hand cream works very well...I too have tried many! Good luck!
  2. I honestly do not have anything good to say about MSN......
  3. I was wondering if you all could share your tips on how you do your resumes being a traveler. I am starting to have concerns since I have been doing quite a bit of travel and agency work in many different states. I am afraid it may hinder me when I do apply for a permanent job sometime in the near future..........any advice?
  4. I have traveled before and always took the housing. This time I am going to take the stipend. Can you tell me does the hospital or the agency pay your stipend? And if the hospital is actually paying can they offer something so low? I was offered $900. The GSA has 99 a day but is there a max rate for GSA? Any help would be appreciated!
  5. No I never got started with them - BAD experience. Very disappointed.
  6. Hello, just wondering if anyone has worked for Priority nurse staffing? Or knows anyone who has.
  7. I also agree with using citydata to find out the safe areas. Also rent.com is pretty good and you can read reviews on apartmentratigs.com. This is how I found my place in FL coming from NY. Good luck!
  8. You are correct - unless it was signed it does not exist! Verbal agreement?? Nice try on your recruiters behalf. I found that so many of them lie its insane! I too am very fed up with travel nursing but for other reasons. Stand your ground - they cant do much if its NOT signed.
  9. I have been traveling for a year now and its getting tough. I work med-surg and there are not many choices out there. Is anyone else finding it the same? All these companies want you to sign up and then they cant find you anything you want! They all say it has not been this bad - ever. Is this true?
  10. I have worked with AMN and dont have too many good things to say about them. My paychecks were always incorrect, my recruitor was snitty in a regular basis, service from my recruitor (also a manager there) was poor, I was "presented" to hospitals without even knowing....and the list goes on! I am currently with CC and wow what a HUGE difference. There is no comparison.
  11. I am hearing med surg at Nassau is 10-12...............that seem like alot to me. I am use to 8. Cannot imagine 4 more!
  12. I was wondering if any one could tell me what the nurse - patient ratio's are like in NY on a med-surg unit? And is there usually ancillary help? Thank you,
  13. What IS the worse of two evils? I use to work 2 -12's and 1- 8hour shift a week.........that was great. Now I am in a new place and work 4- 12's in a row to top it off! We work 4 off 4. At first I was working two days (7am -7pm) followed by two nights (7pm-7am)...yes all in a row. Talk about complete exhaustion! I begged for all nights but still drag working 4 in a row. To make matters worse people ask for you to work for them so this week I am on for 5 12's in a row so my 3 days off will be wasted sleeping! And NO OT!!!
  14. I hate to say.....but where I am (out of the country) all nurses on night shift 7P-7A take their hour and a half break and sleep. It is the norm outside the US. Where I was previously working in the states you would have been fired!
  15. Med - Surg is typically diffcult because of the high patient ratios....and like one nurse mentioned you are running around ALL night trying to remember a hundred things!! It is a rough area.....physically and mentally demanding! I have worked this field for five years now and I know its time to move on. The experience is great. You learn priorty quickly!!
  16. Alot of nurses think the best is to do a year or two of med-surg. It is very benefical before entering a "speciality". It gives you the opportunity to get your skillls down pat. I also know many nurses who went right into CCU, ER right out of school and are doing fine. I think its a personal choice. I myself did not know which route to take- I knew I didnt want to do med surg but was strongly advised to. I have been a med surg nurse for five years now. I like it alot.
  17. I agree with some- this is not going to fix any problems perhaps create more. I am from PA and the hospital I worked in for 5 years has alot of older dipolma nurses as well as many associate degree nurses. I think we would lose alot of the "older" dipolma nurses.....the shortage is already awful!!!!! I myself would not want to go back to school anytime soon! I am just as qualified as an RN who has a BSN degree give me a break!
