I reciently went to OCC for the nursing program. It was a horrible experience. so I Dropped out and now am going else where. Hope it helps They really need to revamp that whole program

My children are grown and I always choose to work christmas so that a mom with small kiddies can have it off . I would not want to miss my kids opening the gifts on x-mass day. That being said, She should not have had hissy fit , and if there are a lot of nurses that have small children ,OH well you have to take turns. It's the only fair wayto do it.

The nurses (RN) that come out of school and work at my facility ask a LOT of questions and they are asking the LPN's There is nothing like good old fashion experience ! No matter what you do for a living and that includes nursing. I went to LPN school way back in the 70's and I had A&P and it was a huge book and I had to learn a lot of stuff . I hear today that LPN school is about 12 months in NJ . The grads I talk to now did not learn a lot of the stuff I did when I went to school. I went for almost 2 years to be an LPN . Didn't go back for RN due to having children and raising a family all these years. I am back in school now. All the pre reqs UGH . IT's terrible. Where are all the diploma schools when ya need them? But you will have an associates degree the college counslor said .. HA I told her I'm 53 years old I don't want nor do I need and Associates degree LOL. I just want my RN. *SIGH* I helped a coworker study for her RN . We studied from the big huge RN book. I pretty much aced most of the questions . If it was the real test I would have passed with flying colors. As far as hiring forigners . Well we had a resident that had a hair line fracture and I was taking a report from said RN and I asked her where the hair line fracture was . She looked at me like I was an idiot and said You know the fracture thats at the base of her head , the hairline . I thought it was a joke until on of the other nurses told me that this person was 1 shy of a 6 pack and she was serious with what she has said !! I just shook my head. I guess the standard of education is not as high as it is here LOL . I do agree that they make it extremely difficult in the USA to get your RN. I am trying to go through Excelsor college , No math required ( thank heavens ) It's a tough way to do it so we shall see. I dont know what the answer is but I am sure a lot of us could pass the RN test with no problem at all . The whole thing boils down to $$$$$$$$$ The colleges would NEVER let it happen . The problem with that is our residents are suffering and will continue to do so as long as money is more important to these big corps. Where I work we had 56 patients 2 nurses and 2 nurses aids last night . I am dog tired physically and mentally . And NO a lot of the people DID NOT get the care they needed. Treatments ?? LOL what are they ?? And they wonder why there's a shortage !! They better do something and do it fast. There are 4 nurses where I work that are leaving nursing all together . Can't blame them .. So ya Give the LPN's their test If you have enough experience to pass it then more power to ya . As I said eariler . There's nothing like good old fashion EXP !!!! And if I had my RN,BSN,any kind of N I would welcome the new new RN's with open arms and thank heavens for the help.

I left once to raise my children, which took me 20 years LOL. I was a dog groomer for 5 of those years which I loved . Because of the grooming action of the clipper I blew my shoulder out and can no longer do that action. I now have my first nursing job in 20 years. It is not the same entity it was 20 years ago. The biggest disapointment for me when I came back was the lack of unity by the nurses, Where I work it's all back stabbing, and writing each other up ?? ( Is this something new?) Heck the nurses aides can even write you up. I feel like I have to watch my back at every corner. I work in a nursing home and hesitate to get a job in the local hospital. I am an LPN and that also seems to be a major problem in nusring now a days . I am trying to get an RN but am finding it difficult due to not being in school for 100 years. I decided to go the excelsor route. Not sure if that was a good idea or not. With all that said I love my elderly peeps and found that I am actually good at what I do and I like working in a nursing home. When I do get my RN I think I will stay in geriatrics. I have faith in human beings and I hope that my experience with the lack of comradery is not everywhere i go. I think the reason people leave nursing is due to the lack of staffing . We have concurrent people working sometimes and all they ever complain about is how they cant get this or that done due to lack of staffing. That also rings true where I work. There is NO staff. We work short all the time which is dangerous for us and our patients. Years ago we didnt need insurance . But bet your bottom dollar I have it now. We are over worked, understaffed, underpaid for the work we do, and unappreciated. Of course people leave nursing and I cant say that I blame them. I was talking to a young lady one day at a local college. I asked her what her major was. She told me she wanted to be a nurse. I said WHY? her answer was . So I can make a lot of money . I just laughed

I work the graveyard shift . I dont like it for sleeping purposes because I work every other week. I work this shift because I dont want to work with the bosses, the people who want to be boss, the people who think they are the boss , the people who wish they were the boss, the doctors, the nurses who think they are doctors, the doctors who want to be any place else but where he/she is, the doctors that I cant understand because of heavy accents and then get angry because I cant understand them, the family members (no explination there) and all the people who are only there because they have terrible home lives, never leave the building and are miserable. Thats why I work nights and I LOVE IT !!! :)

I used to take them out until I quit. Now I can't stand to be around the smoke. I understand the urge to want a cig, so I try to find someone to take then out.

Oh well . Some people are just ignorant. IF nursing were only that easy LOL

I am an LPN . We have a vent unit in our facility which the state requires needs an RN on all three shifts. I have been pulled after I punch in to that unit with just 2 lpn's and no RN in sight. What are the legal ramifications to this sticky subject? Iwas told that I cannot refuse to go to that unit after I punched in because it is considered job abandonment. Im not sure what exactly I should do. Any help on this would be great.
