I agree with you on this, but I personally take down notes all day that wouldn't be part of the chart. I would just like to keep them handy just in case bad things happen.

I remember when I worked in one facility there would be times that we would have to go find a patient to do his/her blood sugar, like in the cafeteria, PT, etc.; and the hand sanitizer was appropriate there since we couldn't wash our hands right at that moment.

annmarie, I was just asking. I'm not saying you should stay late. Like I've said in other threads, I personally don't mind staying late because my kids are getting older and it's not really a big deal for me to stay late, and I'm one of those freaky nurses who love to do paperwork. ;)

I agree with you that we are taken away from the bedside too much, but when it comes to a court of law, if we didn't chart it, we didn't do it. Can you save some of this charting until the end of the shift?

I was always told that handwashing is the best, and the sanitizer is used as an adjunct to that. Which in my opinion is a great idea r/t the huge amount of nosocomial infections we see. Plus, how many lazy nurses and doctors do you know that don't wash their hands between patients, come on now, we all know of a few. So maybe if they just get a dab of this sanitizer, it's better than nothing.

But turning her on her side would help in case she clears the obstruction herself. Leaving her lying on her back has no benefits that I can think of. Turning her takes only a second.

You know if you brought this up to the doc and he says that other men have said the same thing, you would think he would grow a brain and hire a man on his staff. I guess I just don't care anymore - after 2 C-sections, 2 seperate oopherectomies, and finally the uterus out, I'm so used to seeing everyone and their uncle come in to take a look at my stuff that I'm numb to it. Hope you feel better. Just don't let it go too much longer, I know your scared, but this may very well be something serious that you are sitting on (oops- no pun intended, and I hope your not sitting on it) and waiting may be making it worse. Please seek help one way or another.

Can I just walk in and get the job? Don't I have to do some kind of basic training first like everyone else in the army? Seriously, if it's that easy I would TOTALLY do it.

I usually only keep a journal for work when something out of the ordinary happens, especially since you can't go copying pages out of a patient's chart. I also keep all of my personal report sheets that I write notes on all shift, they can go a long when in court.

There is constantly new documentation requirements. There's nothing wrong with that. Most of the time it's to cover the facility's butt, but in the process you are also covering your own.

This is the way a team is SUPPOSED to work. You're quite lucky. And even if you have reservations about another nurse doing any care on your patients, once she does it - it becomes her license. It's not that they are going behind your back to do this, they are just helping.
