this londaj at our hospital we have to give the bp meds ..now if the md wrote parameters that is a different story but we were told we can not hold any medication because we don't have the right if the pt refuses we have to call the md or we could lose our license,i gave lasix and lopressor to a pt with bp 80/40 md was aware pt bp got no higher than 85/40,92/56 but her heartrate was upper 90's 100 so any time we second guess ourselves about bp meds or any meds that we want to hold we have to call the md ..can you imagine calling him at 3 am cause toprol,norvasc was scheduled and bp was very low and you just had that feeling:no:..

hey Man Nurse it is not uncommom any more the hospital i work use not have many men nurses except for Dr's because long time ago men thought it was _ _ _ to be a nurse ,i had lots of male friends who punked out because it just wasn't cool .. now as i said at my hospital we are seeing more men apply for jobs:yeah:and on my med-surge floor we have 3 guys who started as cna's and are now rns so u can imagine 3 guys in a world of women ,they are the best so go on with your bad self the sky is the limit

hey bumlebee thanks your insite on why we choose lpn over rn as i said in a earlier thread i apologize if i sounded like i was shouting but i was not and had no intension of making any one feel uneasy as i said before i'm from ky and love to read all the posts from other states and how much we are all a like so keep posting so i can keep reading ...:jester:londaj

:bugeyes:It's me again my hospital lets us (lpns) push Nexium ,Pepcid, Lasix,Demadex, Saline, Solumedrol, Valuim but no Phenergan, Morphine, Tordol, Zofran. N ow does that make sense? We can also hang blood but not connect the end tubing to the pt butttttttttttt I have to stay in the room and monitor that pt for 5 minutes. Now does that make sense? Thanks again

hey this is to bummblebeern i'm a lpn and proud of it i chose this route due to losing a job of 24 yrs in a factory that went overseas to china , so with 2 kids and a hubby that also works in a factory momma needed to make a decision go back to another factory or try something different also i graduated from high school in 1979 so almost 20 + yrs doing the same thing over/over i neededto prove to my self that i could do nsg it pays good for me .now up to date ..i have a 23 old son who has a job he likes and a 18 yr old daughter who is a freshman college and i'm glad i choose this route cause i can do just as much as you i work on a med-surge floor the pay may be 5.00 less than most rns in ky ours make 23.00 hr we make 16.85 hr but that is ok for now i will be going back for my rn but right now it's all about family making sure they are ok .. also i just signed up for some agency work for lpn and they pay 28.00hr so everybody has a reason! so have a happy day:specs:

hi ,i'm from ky and i can't belive florida doesn't have a detailed scope of practice for lpns boy ky bon does and it is full of stuff that we can and can't do you should take a look at ours ...

hey guys this is londaj speaking from good ole ky, first of all i'm a lpn and work on a med-surge floor in a centrally located hospital that is going thru a major expansion on our floor we give lots of chemo /tpn/lipids due to having lots of cancer pts and even tho we can't iniate blood /chemo or things of that nature we still have to be checked off on picc lines /pac/tldl dressings and still have to monitor that pt ..but anyway you mention that that pt had been running a temp all week or for several days up /down ? then my guess and from previous dealing with ports it could have been the tpn was the tubing changed prior to each bag hung? or did the bag hang for more than 24 hrs ? theses are all policies at our hosp that we monitor even if the bag is half full we still have to change and as for the temp that should have been a sign of some type of infection...be glad to hear some other view

heloo !!!!!!!!!!i'm from danville ,ky 10 miles from harrodsburg i notice that you are thinking about relocating you shoud look into our town which is the home of montgomery and gentry the country duo and also 5 time state football champs Boyle County Rebels also 26 time state champs Danville ADMIRALS so we little towns do have lots to offer both schools are wonderfull we also have a state of the art hospital that is going thru renovations we are adding a new surgery center ,women 's health floor, ortho floor so we are in sooooooooooo short of nurses well i know lexington is a great place to work cause i have friends that work there but i love the home town feel.. and i know where my kids are at night .. i'm a nite -shifter so check us out i know your brother would be happy if you lived in harrosburg or danville.ky ..think about it :welcome: thanks for listening londa j
