I was a CNA in a nursing home for 3 years, a nurse tech on a rehab and med-surg floor for a year and then to an ICU as a RN. I value my experience but I work with plenty of competent nurses that came here without a lick of any other experience. Do what you want. The ICU is an amazing place to learn, jump in with both feet if thats what makes you happy.
One too many. One of my dear friends who I went through nursing school had something from each chapter we went through in our med surg books. Sometimes it's hard to be patient.
I know this is supposed to be about nurses, but this residents mistake is too funny not to pass on. On the ICU i work on a newer resident walked into a patients room who was alarming asystole. He proceeded to immediately give this sweet little 90 something year old lady a lovely pericardial thump. To which she opened her eyes and said "WHAT THE F DID YOU DO THAT FOR?" Her lead had come off and she was sleeping peacefully before his not so plesant visit to her.
