Yes, many are interested to study Nursing and be a nurse whether American or other foreign hopefuls--They are attracted with the pay and the benefits. The question is, how many of these people would last in the Nursing field or work full time in the hospital??..

Relief for retrogression hope???
Are you a Filipino working as an RN in the USA or a foreign immigrant there??..I understand your point, but most new nurses and other nursing students are really good and have potentials. I also observe that most male nurses and male student nurses do much better and work faster than females..They do have potential and talent in nursing..Yes,nowadays, a lot are taking up Nursing because they do have dreams of going to USA and other first world countries, BUT a lot of these people work well as nurses--I dont know about the others who dont do well or fed-up with nursing stress, maybe they should just shift career, but so far, in our area, I do admire the skills and tolerance of my co-workers and student nurses in handling many toxic patients and impatient relatives..Indeed, nursing is really a demanding work..If you are not mentally and physically prepared, well, you try to be--otherwise, you wont last in this career..In other countries, it is just the same thing,Nursing is very stressful...In the Philippines, oftentimes, you wont have time to eat or pee, especially if you're on the Step-down ICU or Medical-Surgical Unit..You'll get crazy most of the time, because of the number of patient load, number of medications, number of procedures, number of new patients you are admitting in a day, three patients whose IV catheters are out and have to reinsert it,number of patients you would endorse to Hemodialysis in a day and two patients you would transfer to ICU which eats up a lot of your time--ICU nurse would get angry if your endorsement to their area is not organize and if you forgot to mention something..You must do well even under pressure and even if you have 10 patients all in all..Yes, thats the usual count, 8-10 patients in a day, sometimes I handle 12..The technique is to be selfless, not to think too much about yourself..

Relief for retrogression hope???
Too many nurses including their spouses and children are applying in the USA-- and greencards have limited numbers per year, even if Retrog is lifted--Retrog will happen again and again--as applicant influx exhaust the number of visas and these nurses will not stop trying--they will still take their chances unless NCLEX testing centers in foreign countries would close down..

Immigration News and Updates
May I know what priority dates are now being scheduled for embassy interview?--or just give me idea about this.I heard from the other blog that someone has a PD of October 2005 and until now he's still waiting for his interview date. How true is this?.As far as I could remember, retrogression started on October 2006..How could a PD of October 2005 havent got any interview yet??..or it depends on the situation of his papers?..By the way, MY PD is May 2007, I know its not yet current but just asking about the case I mentioned a while ago.

Immigration News and Updates
90,000 visa re-capture update ("Hutchinson Amendment")The S. 4 Bill (Improving America's Security Act of 2007) was passed yesterday but w/o the Hutchinson Amendment.---DOES IT MEAN THAT RETROGRESSION IS OVER AND 90,000 VISAS WOULD BE AVAILABLE????..ANYONE, PLS.ENLIGHTEN ME....

Immigration News and Updates
I hope they would just recapture the unused greencard visas...If they will approve this non-immigrant temporary working visa, I think non-immigrant visas will all be used up very quickly...and as Suzzane mentioned, if you have a working visa rather than greencard status, there's a big tendency that your employer would exploit you and you wont get the same salary and same benefits like the US citizen nurses and alien greencard holders..Well the waiting period for my petition really tortures me, but I would rather wait than go to US very quickly and be a non-immigrant worker--get lower pay than the usual and not treated as equal with your immigrant co-workers, in other words-"being exploited and abused"....but I hope the waiting wont last for years, I am crossing my fingers and pray hard that this retrogression would end this summer..

The length of immigration process??
I am currently waiting for my greencard but have no plans of diverting to other countries because I signed a contract with a US employer, but before that, I tried to research about NZ and from what I know, NZ requires 2-3 years of Nursing experience particularly in specialty areas..and they need IELTS Band Score of 7 in speaking, writing, listening, and reading...

Overworked And Underpaid
Our country has too much bad politics and a very low economy.. Businessmen cannot afford to pay their employees a decent salary like in first world countries, because if they do, they would lose too much profit and would lose their business as well..This is the reality, we cannot force hospital employers to pay high salary for staff nurses because we are not US or the middle east which has a good economy and high cost of living..The reason why we still have underpaid and overworked nurses is that almost every Filipino nurse aspires to work abroad..

is the philippine local boards required for work in US?
What do you plan to do after passing all the exams and waiting for the petition to be done?..It would take 12 months to two years before you could land to US..You could have enhance your nursing skills during that time..Why not work here in the Philippines while waiting for the petition??..It would take a very long time before you could complete all of those, you should have at least enhance yourself doing nursing works, adapting yourself to the real world of nursing which takes a lot of patience, hardwork and tolerance for stress..and not all who takes CG,NCLEX,TOEFL,IELTS passes for the first time..so the safest is to pass the LOCAL boards first before taking any foreign exams..with Philippine license, you can work as a nurse here regardless if you pass or dont pass US exams..at least, you can recall and enhance nursing skills you've learned from college, and you've got this chance to learn more and discover things which is new to you and find confidence when you work abroad..

Immigration News and Updates
I just wish they would choose the number 2 option which is recapturing 90,000 visas..We need immediate remedy for the retrogression especially for those who are stucked in Packet 3 and to those who have just been petition by their employer-like in my case...The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill, though a very good thing, will take a long time before it will get approved, it has to beat all the odds..I dont think that it is very much appreciated by most members of the US congress, and its estimated time to get approved is by next year or 2009...How long can we wait?, so I just hope that they would just distribute/ recapture 90,000 visas this year..

USA, UK, Australia, Canada or Switzerland- I need your opinion on this
I think any of these countries would do-- if you are very eager to work abroad...Just keep yourself busy gaining experience and preparing yourself to pass exams required for these countries..If you'll have at least 2-3 years experience, there wont be any problems you could apply to any country which you like or is currently hiring Filipino nurses.Passing the IELTS is a great advantage..or you could invest money for reviewing and taking CGFNS or NCLEX if you want to apply for United States..If you want to work in Switzerland, you have to study Italian, French and German languages..These are the usual languages spoken by the people of Switzerland..

General Discussion about Filipino RNs currently working in the U.S.
Which is much stressing hospital work in the Philippines or hospital duty in the US?..Setting aside the salary issue we all know that US or any other first world countries pay their nurses a much higher salary than here in the Philippines, what I want to know is the working condition of Filipino nurses abroad especially in the US..
-
Just took the DEC boards, im planning ahead, what's the next step I should take?
Just wait first for the result of your board exam, then if you passed, that's the time you plan for things whether you want to have experience first or take and pass foreign exams.Doing all these sound easy but its a tough road to undertake, just remain your faith and stay positive.Anyways, best wishes for your plans.

MD degrading RN
Some doctors are really bossy and hot-tempered:angryfire , but Filipino doctors should learn to tame down their tempers and arrogant attitude towards nurses, because nowadays, a lot of their fellow doctors shift to nursing career and we all know why.
