  1. I worked as an RN in hospital nursing for 25 years. I have been a school nurse for 12 years. I still have the hospital dreams of not seeing my patients, never getting my work done, not knowing someone was my patient. I never dream about being a school nurse. I am always in the hospital. The two other school nurse in my district tell me they also are still having the hospital dreams. It's like the stress never left. I wake up exhausted. I am glad to hear that I am not the only one with "the dreams" or is it nightmares?
  2. i am not a certified school nurse, so my pay is very low. that is the worst part of my job. i work with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. i really enjoy my job. when i have 5 kids in my office waiting for me, i think back to all the call lights, iv's that need to be changed, someone needs help to the bathroom, the doc on the phone is waiting. now i just smile. the pressure on a bad day is so much less than the hospital. i worked in the hospital 27 years, 25 as an rn. the days off are great. i no longer miss weddings and other weekend activities. two years ago i was diagnosed with inflammatory breast caancer. i worked through chemo. i would never have been to work, if i was still at the hospital. i was so tired. i was off after my mastectomy and during my twice daily radiation and after radiation due to burns. i was off for four months. when i ran out of sick days, the teachers gave me some of theirs. i still miss some of the adrenaline rushes that i had at the hospital. it took me a little while to feel like a school nurse and to enjoy it. now after 8 years of working as a school nurse, i am here to stay. good luck. i hope you get the job and learn to love it.
  3. I think I am the lowest paid RN. I haven't seen anyone paid less then me since I started reading this thread. I am a Chicago suburb, non-certified school nurse that makes $16.05 and hour plus health insurance. Six years school nurse experiance, toal RN experiance 31 years. I wish more school nurses would post.
  4. I am an RN, Chicago suburbs. 31 years exp. as RN. 6 years as a school nurse, non-certified $16.25/hr. Isn't that pathetic? Oh, I don't have to pay for my health insurance.
  5. I don't think that it is uncommon to feel like that. I worked 3-11 and I used to wake up in the middle of the noc thinking of something I forgot or that I didn't tell someone, something in report. I would call and they would tell me , "go back to bed, it's ok". If you really did miss something or did something wrong, they would let you know. I think we all just learn to live with that feeling. You have to tell yourself, when that feeling hits, "This isn't my total life". When your new baby comes your job won't seem as big of a priority. At home try to find time for yourself and for your husbusnd. Have fun and try and forget work when you are not there. I know that sounds hard but it will get easier with practice.

I am wondering if anyone has worked for Manor Care. If you have, how are employees treated? Benefits? Pay? PT0? Do they have frequent changes in administration? Does corporate run things or is more left up to the indivual home? Any answer will be appreciated. I haven't had much luck with internet searches. Thanks in advance.
  7. I'm another nurse form Illinois, south of Chicago.
  8. I work at a school district in Illinois. I am considered a health aide. The one certified school nurse in our district does belong to a union. I think it's the teachers union. I am not certified because I don't have a BSN that is requierd for certification.
