  1. :uhoh3:Hello everyone!!! I got my CNA license in Feb and have tried since then to get a job at one of the three hospitals(Brevard,fl.).They all tell me I need more experience(I have none).I start back to school Aug 6th to finish the last three class I need to get my license as a PCT.My question is when I get my license for a PCT would I be looked at differently? As a PCT I would have phlebotomy,EKG,HHA,CPR and first aid all behind me.Or am I wasting my time doing the extra classes and just need to look else were for a job?
  2. hello everyone... I am a CNA with my HHA,CPR and First Aid behind me also.Right now I work for a HHA company(only for a month) and I applied for a job at a hospital. The title is clinical svcs tech II but the definition for that says CNA. Well when I saw it was for a CNA I check the box for the job and I got a call back in a couple hrs. Now I have an interview tomorrow and I have no clue really what the details of the job is (other than CNA) and I don't know what to say or do at the interview? I have never heard of a clinical svcs tech(let alone a tech II)and I'm not sure what I have got my self into.I did send my resume(very small cause I have really no experience)..........Does anyone have any idea what a clinical service tech does???? An maybe what should I say at the interview??????
  3. Hello everyone, I have 2 questions 1)Is working in Home Health any different than TLC or a Hospital? 2)Would a Hospital hire you if you worked in Home Health and not in TLC? I am a CNA and I start working for a Home Health agency June 4th. After i got some experience I was wanting to work in a Hospital but wasn't sure if they would hire me with only working Home Health?Should I not even work Home Health If I'm wanting to work in a Hospital? Please Help!!
  4. Hello everyone!!!! I work in a nursing home and I have to say it is the worst experience I have ever had.. The first 3 days I was told to work with someone(but really never got to do or showed anything). The person I was to work with always did everything because she didn't want to get behind from me slowing her down.I wasn't taught how to do much because she said you will never do everything by the book(so she cut corners as she called it)or you'll never get done.So after my 3 wonderful days of working with her.I got put out on my own and OMG!!!!I didn't know how to do things.I got sooooo far behind and every time I asked someone for help they would just help set me up than leave.Anyway what I was wondering was if assistant living was less hectic and more for the patient?I really didn't mind doing the things and helping the people. It was the not knowing who, were, how and when everyone went?Sorry for the long talk but I'm just sooo frustrated and needed to vent..:uhoh21:
  5. Hello everyone!!! Well let me start of with telling you alittle about my self.I'm 31 and have had no medical experience(well other than cleaning up after patients-House keeper).I just got my CNA license(haven't worked yet).I have been thinking of going to nursing school but I am terrified.I never finished school but when back yrs. later to get my diploma.I'm not very good with all the school stuff.Ok so I guess what I'm trying to ask is should I go fo it(RN school)or should I just go with the CNA thing? How hard is Nursing school? Any advice good or bad would be very helpful!!!!
  6. Hello everyone!!!! I have put out applications for jobs and have been waiting to hear something(anything). My question is just that"How long do you wait"?Is 1 week or 2 weeks to long to think they still might want me?Or should I go back and fill another one out?I filled some out on the computer. Also went down in person to turn some in.I even filled out one for a place that wanted 1yrs experience(that I don't have)....How long did it take for any of you to get a call back for a job interview? Or should I call them too? Any ideas????????
  7. Thank you all for the tips!!!! I know no matter what I am going to be scared. But maybe if I try to think of things before hand(like what is your weakness)things like that. Also try not to show your to scared and just be me(with a smile).I think I'll be ok....Thank you all again!!!!
  8. hello everyone!!! I am trying for some jobs and was wondering what do I say at an interview? Are there things you should say or not say?Are you serious and not joke? Maybe if you tell about some of your interviews I can use your tips on what to talk about.. Please help!!!!!
  9. Thanks for the tips.I guess it does depend on what floor I'm on.I'm going to try for them all, what ever I end up with I guess will be my floor.I really hope they show me the ropes. Not to sure on somethings. My class was only 5 weeks long and we spent 4 reading the book.Well I guess if they want me they'll tell me what to do.Thanks again for the tips....
  10. Hello everyone.... I was thinking about trying for a job at a hospital(I'm in fl.)and was wondering what do CNA's really do?Does it depened on the floor? The hospital that is hiring has MED/SURG and MED/ONCOLOGY.It is also hiring for things I have no clue what it is .Like OB SCURB TECH/CNA and TELEMETRY.If anyone can tell me what and how to do any of these things i'm sure it will help me decide on what to do. Thank you!!:wink2:
  11. Well I took the CNA class and they give you a book from Thomson Prometric.I went online to Prometric: Testing and Assessment .it's the same book and company that give me the test.you can also go online to nursing assistant central and they give you a practice test from what ever state you are from. I hope this helps...
  12. I did it,I passed my state test!!! I just wanted to tell everyone thank you for all the help, tips and advice you gave me.Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. I don't think I have ever heard that one before.when I started my CNA classes one of the things I had to buy was a stethoscope. Maybe were your going to do your clinicals they provide one for you?I go in 2 days to take my states test and they said you could be tested on it but they will provide a two way one for you(and the judge)to use.Did you use one at all for the class?Maybe you should call the place were your going to do the clinicals and ask if they will have one for you to use?
  14. Happy New Year everyone!!! Thank you for your helpful hints.I go Saturday to take my test.I am sooooo nervous!!!! But from what you guys have said I think I will be ok.I"ll keep you updated on how I did(good I hope)... Thank you!!!
  15. Merry X -mas all !!! I go to take my test in 2 weeks and was wondering if anyone had any to do or not to do tips on the test.I have heard from different people it was easy and also it was hard.If you could tell me why you thought it was easy or hard maybe it could help me on my test. Also I keep hearing that you fail because of points you get taken off when you do the test. What and how many points do you get taken away.Thank you all for the help.
  16. I live in Titusville,Fl.. The other side of the coast. But I did my training from the Red Cross(they only do the CNA classes). You could go to the community colleges. They also have classes for the CNA/PCT.My class was held at a nursing/rehab facility. It was 5 weeks long with 1 week of clinicals.I think working as a CNA before you work as a nurse is great.I am hoping after working a full year as a CNA I am going to start my nursing classes.Hope this helps..........good luck with the CNA/nursing.:roll
  17. Good luck on your clincal day.I just finished my weeks worth of clinicals.I did so much that week that we never covered. When I had my class we learned all of it out of a book then had my clinical week.It is so different doing things than reading about them.Alot of it is common sense. The place i took my clinicals the CNA that I shadowed would do things the"wrong"way. Then say well as long as you don't do this on your states test than you'll be ok.Well my week came and went and now i'm waiting to do my test.I think as long as you remember what you were taught and maybe go back to the book and review than you'll be ok.GOOD LUCK!!!!!
  18. Hi everyone,I started my CNA classes 4 weeks ago. This is the first time the teacher has taught(she has been a nurse for 20yrs).she is really great with the book work(I have passed all the little test they give you). But when it comes to hands on stuff she is clueless She's tried to show us how to do things like make a bed(occupied or not)and just can't get it.she only knows how she has did it and not whats on the states test.Samething with any washing, dressing, anything that has to do with helping the patient hands on.She just keeps saying read your book and practice.I do my clinicals next week and then I can sign up for the test after that. But how am I going to pass the states if I don't no what to do?If anyone can remember how to do things or any little tips on what to do and how could you please share them :uhoh21: thank you
  19. I was just wondering you said you have already taken classes for phlebotomist and EMT? Why don't you want to work off them? I have been trying for almost a year now to get in to the PCT class but there is never enough people for the class. So I was going to take the CNA class and maybe go back for the allied health and phlebotomist class.I heard they would help so much when your going to get a job(mostly in a hospital).well I wish you the best on your classes next week!!!....
  20. I start my CNA class Monday.I'm real nervous but I'm also really excited about it.So many things are running through my mind.Like am I going to catch onto everything,am I going to learn enough, and can I really do this?I am going to take my class at a NH but I plan on working at a hospital(I hope) when I'm done.I know from reading all the posts most of you work at a NH.But I was wondering if anyone can tell me the difference in what I will be training for in the NH rather than the hospital? If anyone can asnwer any of these questions,It would be very helpful. thanks.......One more thing is there a web site you can go to to learn the abbreviations that you have to learn?........:wink2:
  21. I understand why it would make you mad having people take CNA class at a NH and never stay. But when your told from the college for almost a year now(it was for a PCT class)there aren't enough people to do the class and THEY also tell you to go to the redcross what else can you do?The NH you work at can't be to mad with people taking their classes there and leaving if they keep giving the classes. I think as long as finish my classes and like what I do and the people I help it doesn't matter were I go to school or were I work. :wink2:
  22. I start my CNA classes on the 23rd at a nursing home.Originally I was to start at a hospital(were I hope to be working after the test)and learn everything from there so I can work at one.But that didn't fall through and I was told I had to take it at the nursing home. What I was wanting to know was if there was a difference between them? Will I learn what I need to know to work in a hospital? If any one could please let know before I start. It would be very helpful....Thank you!!!
