University of South Alabama DNP Fall 2011
I would have to agree that just reading chapters and taking a test every two weeks doesn't work for me. The online factor doesn't bother me but for classes like advanced assessment and pathophys, I am not sure that this works....at least for me. I am reevaluating as well......

Brandman University DNP
Hey all, I was the one who started this discussion a while back. I was accepted to the psych DNP for Spring of 2011 but decided to attend somewhere else that offered cheaper tuition. I am thinking of asking for my spot back at Brandman for spring 2012 because I truly believe that is where I should be. I love cutting edge and innovation and Brandman definitely is both. Can anyone shed some light on how classes have gone for you thus far? I am hoping it is more than power points that you read or listen to.

University of South Alabama Family Psych NP program?
To anyone that has started this program: I am a bit worried that psychopharmacology, genetics, nor biostatistics are not offered as part of the program. I want to make sure I am getting what I need to become a great FPMHNP. What are your thoughts? Is it covered in other courses?

owning a nursing business
What do I have to do to become a self-employed RN? Did you have to get a business license and/or go through a regulatory office for other licensing? Where do you get supplies from to take care of the patient? I know malpractice insurance is necessary but what else? I am interested in providing private postpartum/newborn home visits...my target market would be affluent moms who can pay up front. i don't want the medicare/medicaid drama. I want to wake up each morning the way you do James!

Work from home OB nurse?
I have been looking into starting a OB home health business as well. I'm not interested in the doula thing. I just want to give good professional nursing care. After doing some research for getting established and staying in business, I must say it is going to take a lot of work. Your department of human resources or office of regualtory services should have all the information you are looking for. Here in Georgia, they call it private healthcare providers.

leaving nursing
I have just made the decision to leave bedside nursing for so many reasons. I am a mother/baby nurse and in that area, the hormones really fly. I'm sick of being treated like i was hired for room service, i'm tired of hearing the call bell, i'm tired of being the referee for the baby-mama-drama and honestly, I just don't have what it takes to "nurture" or whatever they call it. Actually, I have never been a "people" person and with bedside nursing, you HAVE to be a people person. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about being a research nurse. There is a pediatric research position i'm interested in. I honestly think i'll be much happier growing fungus in a petrie dish so i didn't have interact with people all the time. Sigh:confused:

IV Starts
I'm a term newborn nursery nurse and sometimes we do IV's on babies that may need anitbiotics or D10W for a few days. I'll tell you what....the sicker they are the worst their veins seem to be. The term babies have plumpier veins....you might not be able to actually see the vein but you can sure feel it. I also use the transluminator if need be. The veins in the hand seem to be the easiest ones to me.I think removing the needle after you get some blood return and guiding the catheter in is somtimes necessary. Somedays it's pure luck though. I know you guys must be thinking......"what does this well-baby nurse know about starting IV's on babies". The funny thing is, we should not have to do those things on so-called well-babies in the first place. Hey can I ask you guys a question? Do you guys get a kick out of doing septic W/U and starting IV's? I love it.....that sounds bad doesn't it?
