It is called LWIA in Louisiana. You can contact them through your local louisiana workforce center. (unemployment office). It won't pay for pre req's but once you are in your nursing coursework they pay for everything, plus a gas and food allowance. Hope this helps

Hi, I was not an engineer, but I was a chemist. I decided to start off as an LPN so I could learn as many aspects of the job as possible. I am almost finished with my RN (only needed the nursing courses). I would say that LPN school was much harder than my BS degree. The work itself isn't that bad just the sheer volume of work, testing and clinicals can be rough. I will say that RN school is much easier than LPN school was, or maybe it seems that way because I had such tough LPN instructors. Plus, LPN instructors treat you like dirt, which was the hardest part with me being mid 30's and a manager for last 10 years. (but it will teach you humility hahah) Either way follow your heart and what God tells you to do. I took a MASSIVE pay cut to become an LPN but the job satisfaction and lower stress levels makes everything worthwhile. I know that once I am an RN it will be even more rewarding, at least monitarily. Good luck and God bless, CS

I recently finished LPN school and it was just as you describe. The RN's were wonderful, most of the LPN were great but the CNA were horrible. They treated us like dirt and would tell the instructor anything they though could even remotely get a student into trouble. I even saw some go so far as to set up student nurses just so they could get them into trouble. I enquired why this was the case, basically asking the same question you just did to my instructoir and was told it usually boils down to jealousy. The ones mistreating the students are the ones who generally are not bright enough to even consider doing what you are doing. They will get nicer right before you graduate. Making jokes about taking a job there when you graduate and payback in x semesters seemed to help. Good Luck, CS

WEll, I scored INFJ I would think the test problem might be due to the differences between nursing tests and other types. First, nursing tests are not usually rote (ie memorization) but more pointed towards testing descision making capabilities. Many times more than one answer is correct you have to pick the MOST correct answer. Second, they have alot of what I call "trivial pursuit" type questions. They are small trivial details that you might not normally look for, nursing teachers love these. They are also the information that tells you how to practically do your job. The point is being able to take a set of theoretical information and convert it into real world action. I don't think personality type has anything to do with the book end of nursing but in the actual day-to-day work. I think the F is probably the aspect you will see most sharing. Not to worry, personalities change and develop over time. I for one was hardcore INTJ but seemeed to have traded my T for an F as I have aged. Just hang in there and don't sweat the first test, it just takes time to understand how a teacher tests and what information they want. Heck, after a while I could predict answers to tests based on the teachers patterns on the scan-tron, which totally freaked them out! Had to change all their tests, hahha just keep your head up and plow right through. Nursing school is an endurance test more than anything.. Good luck.. -CS
