  1. DIdnt know where to post this question. I am a Mechanical engineer by degree but work in the aerospace field for the past 7 years. I have been thinking of goign back to school for a career change and would love to go into obgyn nursing. Anyone out there who has made the career change from engineering to nursing? How did nursing school compare to engineering school? How did your engineering background help/ or not help you in nursing school or in your nursing career? Thanks!

  3. Do you use it every day in your work? I can understand a&p and maybe chem for the meds.
  4. Check out www.hypnobabies.com I used this method for the birth of my son and it was wonderful. Totally pain free (lots of pressure tho), unmedicated, natural birth in a hospital. Highly recommend it to everyone.
  5. I was thinking more of good loans to help cover living expenses while in college. for mortgage, daycare, cars, food, etc. Or do they just give you enough for tuition and books? There is NO WAY I could go to school f/t and survive on my hubbys income. do your kids go to the daycare at UT?
  6. How do you manage school and your family? Does UTHSC help you out with daycare, I heard that theirs is pretty good. Is there a long waiting list? How many hours a day are you in class/studying? Do you get any grants/good loans for having a family and going to school? Thanks!
  7. is it true that some hospitals/clinics etc will pay your student loans if you agree to sign a contract to work for them for so many years after graduation from an ADN or BSN program? Is the medical field in such dire need of nurses that they will pay to relocate you anywhere you want to go also?
  8. I am thinking of changing my career as an engineer to a nurse. I am used to people looking up to me and being part of a team. We are all equals and we work together to get things done. What is the mentality in the medical field, do drs work with or against nurses? To me they couldnt do anything without us and it would be in their best interest for us to work as a team.
  9. I am a 32 year old thinking of doing somethign different. I have a BS in mechanical engineering. I am thinking of a nursing career in womens health/OBGYN. I have a 16 month old son. The problem I have is whether I can take the gross stuff. I am not sure if I can deal with the blood and gore in the clinicals or puking of preggo moms etc. What if I cant hack it? How did you know if nursing was the right career for you? Were you afraid of the gross stuff? I jsut remember how I loved being preggo and want to help women have as wonderful of a pregnancy and birth as I did. But I know things can go wrong and its not always happy endings and I dont know if I can handle those situations. Any suggestions/comments?
  10. You have asked the same questions I have had in my mind for several months now. I want to go into nursing ( I have a BS in mechanical engieering) and have a 16 month old son and want to have another one before I turn 34. I am 32 right now. I am so scared that I cant do it and balance everything. I need at least 8 hrs of sleep and dont know how I can balance working 40 hrs, spending time with hubby and baby, etc. I will be watching this post for suggestions. Would anyone recommend just quitting work and going to school f/t and using loans to pay bills, etc for the few years until I get a nursing job?
  11. How was it? Is it legit? Is it accredited? I am looking for a p/t program I can kinda take at my own pace as I already am an engineer working full time and have a 14 month old son. I have to work f/t so p/t school is the only option for me to get into nursing as a second career. Any comments on this program are appreciated. Thanks.
  12. Thanks. Looks like it might work? Did you go thru this program or know anyone who has? Is it a legit and accredited program?
  13. I looked into the HCC program they do have a night program but I dont think I could swing it. I would be a ZOMBIE every day! I work f/t right now plus have a 14 month old son and a husband who goes to classes m/w and works until 600 every day. I dont have any family to watch the baby either. I wouldnt want to go to Kingwood either since I live in Pearland an that would be too much of a drive. Has anyone gone thru that online program mentioned in the above post? That looks pretty interesting, I am going to check that one out more. Is it a legit program?
  14. I am looking at nursing as a second career but need a progam that is part time. Anyone out there a second career RN? I currently am a project engineer with a BS in mechanical engineering graduating in 1999. Will any of my classes transfer over to any RN programs? I know there are a few accelerated programs out there but they are F/T only. Please help me, I feel like nursing is my calling and I really want to get into this field. Any help would be greatly apprecaited.
