  1. I am a first year rn and am going to also be a first time mom. I am wondering what everyones opinion is in regards to lamaze and the bradley method. I of course would like to have a natural child birth, but am not ruling out the idea of an epidural. what kind of experiences have any of the ob nurses seen w/ 1st times moms with either of these methods, what are your personal experiences? thanks!
  2. how come your waiting to test-most tests let you know the day or even a few days before the your period is due. i am 7 weeks and only had some minor breast changes w/ mild nausea in the am and sometimes during the day. if your are or are trying make sure your eating right and taking atleast 400mcg of folic acid a day. good luck!
  3. found out i was pregnant for the 1st time week before nclex(im 30 and just graduated in may)wanted to try during last year of school, but glad i waited, the stress of possibly failing the boards knowing i was pregnant was horrible, because i would lose my new job, but now i'm thrilled and settling in-the stress of graduating, looking for a job and nclex is all behind me and i can enjoy everyday of my first pregnancy!! try to hold out if you can!
  4. ive been hired on a med/surg floor that ive been on for 3 weeks now, we are with a preceptor and are supposed to work our way up to 6 pts. right now im caring for 3 and i am running all day! at the moment i sart my day by looking in on my assigned pts., get report, check labs, do my assesments and chart in the bedside book ( this is where we chart our assesments) and than i start meds. our hosp. uses the computerized med administration which makes things easier, but between missing meds and pt. requests for things i end up giving meds late which sets me back on checking for new md orders and calling mds for pertinent stuff. just looking for advice on organizing my day or even just my morning!
  5. i have not taken nclex yet , but scored 944 on hesi, the teachers were really happy and according to hesi there is like a 98% chance you'll pass if you score >850. i didnt study for hesi, but am still studying for nclex.good luck!
  6. did you use saunders comprehensive review? our school requires us to use it for one of our classes. i used it to study for the hesi test and scored a 944. i would definitly get it if you dont have it already, if you do maybe invest in saunders q&a book. good luck.

i worked with several schizophrenic clients and it was exhausting for me- their meds were not controlling their delusions or hallucinations and it was very tiring trying to talk with them and keep them in reality.
  8. my AAS in nursing will be my second AAS and it has not hurt me in terms of $$ aid or in getting a job, though the first is health related as well and they are both from the same school. good luck!
  9. i am also a dv survivor it took me 5 years to to leave for good. these men are very manipulitive in getting you to believe they will never do it again and that their so sorry, especially during that 'honeymoon phase'. stay put and focus on school. as for as school and work goes it is none of their business. I would seek counseling even if you think you dont need it, you'll be amazed of all the stuff we keep pushed in the back of our minds. be aware of your feelings in regards to the matter especially when working with patients who are victims, you may feel the urge to tell them your story and try to force them to leave their spouse, but it only makes it worse, just let them know there id help if they decide they want or need it. Good luck and hang in there.
  10. i'm in dutchess county ( north of nyc) and hospital start between 22.00 and 26.00/hr
  11. i'm not realy sure what makes dcc more difficult, its just what i've heard. the teachers here are not always very supportive- if they don't think you should be a nurse they will tell you to maybe look into a differnt career. our grades are based on tests formatted like the nclex which i'm sure the other nursing programs do as well, the questions though are alway more difficult than what i see in review books. maybe try to find someone who transferred who would know better. good luck
  12. well i understand that they continue your education, but does it just involve reading an article and then taking a test? what do you do with them after you have earned them? and is there any other benefits, say from the employer, besides the fact that we are educating ourselves? going on interviews soon and would like to know what to ask re: continueing ed. thanks!
  13. I'm graduating from dutchess community college and know some of the students that don't make it here go there because its easier and the teachers don't try to eat you alive- good luck
  14. i'm graduating in may and am hearing so many confusing things about nclex and starting a job. Can i lose my GN status or job if i fail the nclex the first time and how long before i can retake the nclex? If someone in NY can help it would be much appreciated.
  15. i was wondering how long you have to wait to repeat the nlex if you fail the first time, ive heard you have to wait 45 days before you can even reschedule and ive heard you can reschedule right away as long as its been 45 since the last time. I live in ny- i know it varies by state.
