  1. stephanie262, Definitely Send in your application now....by the time they process it your A grade will be posted. Good Luck!
  2. Hi tata-star, I took the morning semester for NP1 - our instructor was tough but she was really good. A lot of people failed though (like 12 out of 30) - I don't think as many failed in the afternoon session? You really have to be dedicated and want to learn, and literally devote all your free time to this to do well!
  3. You will need a certain amount of points to pass NP1. The HESI accounts for a big chunk of them. Not sure what the Tabe or Teas is but the HESI is set up similar to the NCLEX from what I hear. It was tough. There isn't necessarily a passing score - it depends on how many points you need at the end of the semester when it is time to take the test.
  4. Purplestang, thank you so much for making the offer. I applied for the evening program at the DM campus for Jan 2010, I am currently awaiting a decision.HOW EXCITING! GOOD LUCK:) Would you mind emailing me your syllabus for Process 1 and or the chapter reading assignments for Potter and Perry. I heard that the first test covers 9 chapters. OUR FIRST TEST ONLY COVERED 5-6 CHAPTERS I BELIEVE. GIVE ME YOUR EMAIL AND I WILL SEND YOU THE SYLLABUS. How many lab hours are required? WE HAD TO PUT IN LIKE 15 VOLUNTEER LAB HOURS - I WOULD USUALLY JUST STAY AFTER CLASS FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS UNTIL ALL MY TIME WAS PUT IN. YOU ALSO HAVE TO DO 5 HOURS OF COMPUTER TIME BUT OUR INSTRUCTOR ALLOWED US TO DO THIS AT HOME WHICH WAS NICE. How hard was the math? MATH PART WAS REALLY EASY. CHAPTERS 1-8 IS WHAT YOU WILL BE TESTED ON - BUT REALLY IT IS THE LATER CHAPTERS (LIKE 5-8) THAT HAVE ACTUAL PRACTICE PROBLEMS WHICH WILL BE SIMILAR TO THE MATH TEST. YOU HAVE TO PASS THE MATH TEST TO PASS MEDS IN CLINICALS BUT THEY GIVE YOU THREE CHANCES TO PASS. ALMOST EVERYONE PASSED OUR TEST , SO DON'T STRESS ABOUT MATH. What should we be studying out the Kees and Marshall math book? i.e chapter/topics How many students did you start with and how many did you end wiht at the end of the semester? WE STARTED WITH 32 STUDENTS AND TWO DROPPED BEFORE THE SEMESTER ENDED. I BELIEVE ANOTHER 3 OR 4 FAILED THE SEMESTER. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH POINTS TO PASS GOING INTO THE HESI AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER AND THEN YOU WON'T HAVE TO STRESS ABOUT THE HESI. What is your opinion about the quality of the program? PROGRAM IS GOOD. THE ONLY THING I DON'T LIKE SO FAR IS THAT YOU WILL BE IN CLINCIAL WITH 9 OTHER STUDENTS AND ONLY ONE CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR. IT IS SO HARD TO GET DIRECTION, ETC. What is the best thing that we should do to prepare? READ AHEAD. I STARTED READING THE FIRST 8 CHAPTERS BEFORE I STARTED THE PROGRAM AND THAT WAY I WAS ALWAYS AHEAD WITH MY READING. IT HELPED ALOT. AND DO THE LAB HOURS EARLY IN THE SEMESTER BECAUSE THE WORKLOAD GETS HEAVIER TOWARDS THE END. How did you find the exams , hard, very hard, easy?THE EXAMS WERE VERY HARD. THE FIRST COUPLE WERE OKAY BUT AS THE SEMESTER WENT ON IT GOT HARDER BECAUSE THE TESTS TURNED MORE CLINICAL THINKING BASED RATHER THAT MEMORIZING. How hard or easy was it to learn how to do heath assessments, taking vital signs, breathing sounds (assessing) etc. THEY WILL TEACH YOU ALL OF THAT. I STILL HAVE A LOT TO LEARN. VITAL SIGNS ARE EASY. ASSESSING BREATHING SOUNDS WILL COME WITH TIME. I CAN RECOGNIZE WHEN SOMETHING DOESN'T SOUND NORMAL BUT I STILL CANNOT DIAGNOSE WHAT IT IS. Ok, I don't want to overload you but any insight would be great. You can post your reply here NO PROBLEM AT ALL! ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE AT ALL, LET ME KNOW. I WOULD BE GLAD TO HELP.
  5. I just finished NPI morning session. If anyone wants any information or has any questions, let me know!
  6. Can you send me your notes on the HESI? It would be a BIG help....thanks!
  7. I had a question that asked what would the priority med be in the given scenario: Patient has a fever, cough and a pain score of 7 Choices were: Tylenol Codeine Robitussin Would you want to help the patient's pain before getting the fever down? Thanks.
  8. Can someone please help me with this test question I was just given: It goes something like this: If patient is up and ambulating down the hall and has a pulse oximetry reading taken and it is 83%, what should you do first? Get an ABG reading Put patient back in bed to rest Put oxygen on patient and continue ambulating THanks!
  9. Congrats!!! What an accomplishment. Me being a new nursing student starting in January with two kids and a hubby, any advice as to what you did to get such good grades? Any tips I could use or suggestions? Thanks!
  10. I applied by the cut-off date of June 1st and I received my acceptance letter the end of August. It seemed like forever though. On the application you can choose which campus you want to apply to. It seemed pretty flexible though. Even if you pick a campus during orientation it is pretty easy to switch. Lots of students were switching around. If you have a 3.8 - you are a 'shoe-in'. I went to an advisor right before I was going to turn my applicaton in just to make sure they had everything they needed. That way you won't be surprised. When I went the advisor looked at my GPA (which was only a 3.6) and said 'oh, you are in for sure'. Good Luck! I am so anxious to start myself:)
  11. Hello! There is no waiting list for the nursing program. If you do not get accepted you have to re-apply for the next session. My GPA was 3.6 however some fellow students in orientation had GPA's as low as 3.2. I think it depends on each session though. Let me know if you have any other questions!
  12. Hello there. I actually got accepted for the spring 2009 semester. We had orientation earlier in the month and considering it was mandatory it didn't look like all the spots were filled. It seems like people must have declined the acceptance letter. I bet you have a good chance of getting into the program. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!:nuke:
  13. Can I ask you what your study method is for getting your A's? I am going to start nursing school in January and any helpful study tips up front would be great!
  14. Does anyone know when the acceptance letters are going to go out for entry into the Jan 2009 semester? The cut-off date was June 1st to turn in the applications but I have still heard nothing. Just hoping they didn't lose my application.
